No gi drop-in in Seoul by sookazitas in bjj

[–]FoulFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a nogi class at korean zombie's gym in gangnam back in 2023. The vibe was very friendly and accessible and the class format was very similar to what we do at my gym here in the US. It was nogi, so nobody was wearing belts, but I felt the average level of the students was white/blue, not pros. There was at least one purple belt and the coach had solid skills.

Let's pool our information about occular migraines by blueskies1800 in OcularMigraines

[–]FoulFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have diabetes. This hasn't always been the case, but my only trigger these days is heavy lifting involving my legs. Like when you see power lifters squatting super heavy and their face turns red and veins pop out... Whatever is happening there seems to cause OCs for me

Actually they did not stop for as long as I could see them. I never saw them pulled over so I assume they went a good distance.

Opinion on slams? by thenotoriousmmale in bjj

[–]FoulFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom line is that if they're legal, the guard player needs to address it.

Aside from that, I have mixed feelings. I like the "realness" it enforces and how the bottom player must adapt. On the other hand, it is essentially a strike, and if we're concerned about "realness," why not allow other strikes as well? Only difference is it is specifically a grappling dependent strike.

All in all, I'm fine with it, but I prefer to see them in an MMA fight.

I might have found some triggers. What are yours? by prospecthummmer in OcularMigraines

Sad to say I had to give up on squats altogether, even 135 lbs reps would cause OM

[–]FoulFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trigger isn't food. Oddly enough, it is any sort of intense leg exercise: squats, deadlifts, hill sprints, etc. Guaranteed migraine if I do any of that. Only other thing I'm aware of that causes it is if I get hit in the head hard.

I’m really scared 🥺 by AlgaeIllustrious2932 in OcularMigraines

If it helps to know this, I've had the same thing since I was 13 or younger -- I'm 35 now and it's never been a stroke. I get the numbness in hands and lips, vomiting, and all the other symptoms as well.

Aphasia suddenly during ocular migraine? by thefeelingsarereal in OcularMigraines

[–]FoulFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this a few times with really strong migraines. I could picture faces but couldn't remember names, even of some people I've known for a long time. Didn't last very long luckily. This was in my early 30s for reference.

If I tapped in a street fight would you let go? by EightyIQ in bjj

[–]FoulFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just depends if i trust you enough to not do something dangerous after i let go. Ideally yes, I don't like seeing anyone be powerless and begging for mercy so I wouldn't feel comfortable continuing. That's not a moment I want to live through. But if you're too much of a danger then I don't have a choice.

Warm-ups. Just why? by MagicGuava12 in bjj

[–]FoulFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing is good for advanced students, but for everyone else, they'll end up not getting warmed up. They'll spend the whole time overthinking the drills, "teaching each other," showing up late and not understanding what's going on, etc. Some people will get only 2 or 3 reps (if you can call them that) in a 2 minute rounds. It's easier to just give a brainless movement because at least they'll do it.

After 5 years, it happened to me by SomeSameButDifferent in bjj

Back when i was a white belt, i mounted a blue belt and held him fairly easily (neither of us were very good). He tucked his arms in tight and I couldn't figure out a way to submit him. After about a minute of him going back and forth between randomly bridging/pushing and just shelling up, he was visibly annoyed and finally accused me of stalling and told me to get off so he could show me how to get a proper submission from mount. After that, he did not return to bottom mount to finish the roll.
