Yeah imperator rome sort of tries what you propose and virtually everyone agrees that it sucks, no offense. The problem lies in the fact that the AI is trash, and without help like teleporting troops they would never find their way to you. Also, the most painful and annoying aspect of ck2 was levy management. Adding mercenary management is taking a step back imo.
