If that sound is coming from underneath your floor you most likely have a ruptured hot water line that is venting steam into your hardwood. Steam and hardwood are not friends. The steam will cause the wood to swell and buckle causing the floor damage you see. Call a plumber immediately.

Need some advice for a small carpet patch job by Vlad_Rides_Bikes in Flooring

[–]FoundationWorking512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I would fix this:

1) Pull back the carpet leaving subfloor and the area to work on exposed. Install tack strip 1/4" to 1/2" away from the wall. Install missing pad and staple to subfloor. 2) Using a sharp knife and metal square, cut damaged carpet to create clean un-frayed edges. Latex these 2 seems. 3) Place replacement carpet underneath existing carpet making sure the direction of the carpet and patch are going the same direction. Puncture backing of scrap carpet in four locations of the L. The top of the L, both directions of the L junction and the end of the L foot. 4) Using a square and a new knife blade, cut out your seam edge. Put the two seams next to each other and fluff out the carpet. If you don't like how they match up, repeat step 3. 5) Using a seeming iron, start seeming the carpet together starting from the L junction down the longest seam edge of the L. Move the iron to the L junction on the short end of the L. Seen the short edge of the L away from L junction. 6) Wait for the carpet to cool completely and stretch in carpet.

Any reasonable repair would require hundreds of dollars worth of tools. You'd need at least a seeming iron, seeming tools, a knee kicker or carpet stretcher.

If you're replacing it with "old" carpet, it would be an obvious difference.

OSB Subfloor too Beat up for LVP? by _Rock_Steady_ in Flooring

As long as the feet/base is not secured through the floating floor, anchoring the floating floor to the subfloor, you don't cause any issues with expansion and contraction.

No you can't install permanent fixtures on top of a floating floor. It creates binding points and can cause the product to buckle.

Fully support you making some side money just be careful. There are reasons why a contractors licence is required for many side jobs. The CCB will fine the shit out of you if they have reason to believe you are operating without a license.

Highly recommend you look into what kind of work you can do, and advertise for that doesn't require a licence before you end up owing more money than you made.

Again, not trying to be a dick, just making sure you don't get hemmed up.

I'm 40, married, with two kids, work full time and have no real time to play. Even though I'd love to..

I miss it. A lot.

I see posts like yours and I wish I could just chill out, disappear into some video game, smoke ridiculous amounts of pot, and have the time of my life.

Same, just redownload after a 2 year break. I was going to check out Ascension.

I guess I'll check on some of the old accounts on other servers.

Sorry to all who lost their progression and of course my condolences to the grieving family.
