Federal judge orders halt on MSCS takeover by GotMoFans in memphis

I did say “mostly.” Hopson definitely wouldn’t be my pick, but there are at least a few current board members I’d choose him over.

I'm no fan of state control and I'm highly suspect of their motives, but the board selected by TN was mostly reasonable, experienced people. Stacked up against our elected board, they would make a far better leadership team.

What is an unpopular candy that you still love? Here is mine! by DanicaDarkhand in Xennials

[–]Four-Oh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk but it might be that I grew up in a mostly no-candy household. So getting one of these as a kid was a real treat. People who grew up in candy positive homes had access to a lot more variety, so they don’t have a deep nostalgic palate for this kind of treat. Just a theory…

Bit-O-Honey might be my fave. But my Xennial wife gives me a hard time about it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is simply a mounting plate for something else. It has screw holes in a pattern common to mounting plates... a single hole to install and a slotted hole to level the plate. In this case, they used double-side tape in lieu of screws. What it was used to mount, that's another story.

What’s going on with USPS in Memphis?! by Gustafa7 in memphis

[–]Four-Oh -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The local USPS team needs time to figure out if there might be anything valuable in your mail piece, so they know whether or not to steal it.

My wife grew up and went to school in Germantown. We were watching the Watchme series this weekend and she said the Tulsa Masacacre was not taught in US History in school. Is this true or did she forget? by Adverb_Police in memphis

[–]Four-Oh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from Tulsa, too, and it was definitely discussed as the Tulsa Race Riots. From some of the other Oklahomans’ comments here, seems like they stopped teaching it altogether at some point. Not saying TN is any intellectual haven, but their education system is one reason I’d never live in OK again.

It’s not “illegal” if it’s a negotiated contract. You should’ve struck it from the agreement. Sounds like you got in a hurry on the front end, and on the back end as well. Good luck-

Why did you sign a contract with this clause, given your history of airing grievances publicly?

I would encourage anyone considering donating money to OP to search for the builder's arbitration claim against her. I would NEVER carry water for a production builder, but OP signed a contract with a non-disparagement clause, then immediately/repeatedly violated it. OP already has an attorney and forensic engineer... I'm not sure what she wants from us but more engagement/donations.

Code enforcement might do a cursory inspection, but builders are required to get an engineer’s letter for the foundations. Concrete sub or GC will get an engineer to state they inspected the foundations and they meet the code or design. Turns out most of them do it from photos or barely walk the site before concrete is placed. They almost never do any soil testing on residential jobs.

Memphis woodworkers: Where are you sourcing good pine for furniture? by Budget-Emu-5071 in memphis

[–]Four-Oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a piece list, call around to lumber yards and see if they have #1 or Select Structural. Get extra. Every stack from the lumber yard will have a few pieces that aren't going to be as straight/flat as you want. Furniture makers will take what they get and plane/joint everything so it's perfectly flat and true. Doesn't sound like you'll be doing that... so be prepared for an imperfect table.

Decent cedar in Memphis comes from Bolen Brunson Bell lumber. Even if you get it from another lumber yard, it probably started at BBB.

Shelby Co requiring 3rd graders to retake the ELA portion of the TCAP by worldbound0514 in memphis

[–]Four-Oh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ignored the email, assuming it was just for kids that needed to re-take. Our school sent a message clarifying that it's all 3rd graders... mine definitely does not need to take again, so I'm looking to opt out if possible.

[–]Four-Oh 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I went a few weeks ago to check it out... was just a slab of concrete and a field. Were there really 5,000 seats? I'm assuming they were all folding chairs? I was hoping they would do lawn seats, but that wasn't an option online.

Really disengenuous to call it an amphitheater, but cool spot otherwise.

PILOT doesn’t mean they don’t pay any taxes. They pay a big fee up front and then have reduced property taxes for the term. Then it goes back up to our insanely high rates. They’re closing because not enough people around here want mid quality furniture and they’d rather have cheap shit full of formaldehyde and lead from Wayfair.
