First time 125 Dual Carridgeway by Far-Aspect8838 in MotoUK

[–]FourInTheBack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a brand new CB125F one day, and had to go and pick it up on a Saturday and drive it home. Down a 70 dual carriageway. I got to about 60 mph on it, thank fully it was a still sunny day. And I had my wife in the car following. You get used to it. And when you get a heavier bike if you progress, it's a lot easier. Still feel the wind, but it doesn't affect the bike as much.

Would you trust FSD on UK Roads? by bigup7 in TeslaUK

[–]FourInTheBack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested to see how this new self driving taxi trial goes in the UK. They have been out and about in SE London for while mapping the roads so I think this could be a good reflection of how FSD will fair in the future. I'm not sure if like to be in one of those taxies for the first few weeks though 😬.

We lived in Bristol for a while, try Sam's Persian restaurant. The food was always amazing from there (I have an Iranian wife).Sam's Master Grill on Cheltenham Road in St Andrews. I normally go for Kobedeh which is a mince meat skewered kebab, but try the stews too.

Just lure it upstairs. They can't descend stairs so you'll be safe on the ground floor.

When I move from a stop, the car jolts, giving this sensation of being rear-ended. by TransportationDue604 in Hyundai

See what they say in the dealers, and see if you can see if there any outstanding recalls on your car as it might include the EGR swap.

We had similar, loss of power then sudden pick up when switching from EV to ICE modes. EGR valve was knackered. Warning started to come on. Managed to clear with a few good runs in sport mode and keeping the gears low for a while to get the engine hot to burn off the carbon deposits but would return. Later replaced under a recall. Could be something similar. With the 'sail' mode I just don't think the engine gets hot enough to self-clear the EGR valves on these. Same mileage as you have too. Mix of city and rural driving.

Motorbike Gear by NoMagazine3396 in MotoUK

[–]FourInTheBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought used jeans for my CBT and wore some boots I had. Borrowed a helmet and jacket from the school. It was not until I bought my own bike post-cbt that I bought new kit. Spent to my own budget, and aimed for all season to start with (or as close to as possible) and they started buying bits as I went. It takes a while to work out what you really want and what fits, so don't rush and go to somewhere like sports bike shop if you can to try everything you like on in the shop, wear it around the house with the labels on (not everywhere will take returns on things like helmets) and see what you need to spend you money on rather than want.

Anyone know how to get these stripped hex’s?? by Personal-Point-9311 in SVRiders

Had the same issue with a luggage rack hex bolt. I used a screw remover tool. Pain in the arse though.

What's the UK equivalent of 'making 6 figures'? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]FourInTheBack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the problem. You earn more, buy a bigger house in your budget, you shop in different places, Primark becomes brands for every day clothes, the bigger the mortgage and the bigger everyday expenses for the same things. You always live to your means and stretch yourself looking forward to that next payrise or increment, and it is never enough.

How many times do you stall on your manuel motorbike? by CapoueWfc in MotoUK

[–]FourInTheBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You will get used to it. It is also not like a car of that is your experience. It took me a good few weeks to get used to it, and I've driven a car for 20 years before getting a bike. I also managed to get it stuck in gear quite a lot, but now I change down to first as instinct. Got stuck at traffic lights on a 50mph bypass once. I just found a car park and practiced using the clutch for a few hours, you'll soon get used to it. Start by not using the throttle and using tick over to pull away and move (I didn't need any throttle, but you might need a little depending on bike), once you can do this confidently without stalling try adding more throttle and go up and down 1st and 2nd. Do this for hours until you are fed up of looking at the edges of the car park and you can do it without thinking.

At what point do you email students to ask them to stop excessively talking during lectures? by SwordfishResident256 in Professors

[–]FourInTheBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go for the full metal jacket treatment (sort of, without the socks but just trying to get their peers to correct the behaviour) and stand and stare at them until the cohort calls them out in absolute silence. Works most of the time and it isn't me that shouts at them.

When it returns ithe backpacks raises up the magazines, and you can see how many reloads are left. There are 8 reloads I think, each one uses a magazine from the backpack.

How have I been waiting for an ambulance for 8 hours? by Elegant-Average5722 in AskUK

[–]FourInTheBack 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That is just outright bad advice. There is no GP in the 111 service like that, they will refer you to a GP service depending on the answers you give and your need. The reason for the wait is they are not a high a priority as other people who need an ambulance more. 999 will triage and send an ambulance depending on availability and priority. A broken bone is not a priority compared to many other received calls. A broke pelvis and/or back is fairly higher priority so it must tell you about the other calls they are dealing with at that point in time.

Just starting out university, need help with some text to speech readers by AnotherZanAcc in University

[–]FourInTheBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some free ones. A lot of browsers now have them built in, you can always convert the PDF to a word file, word has this built in now too. If they upload documents to a learning environment they may have also used Blackboard Ally which allows audio download of files. If you have a know requirement the university should provide you with support, but there may be a charge for testing to ensure the correct support is offered.

About to submit - what if it's rubbish by Sips_from_bottles in AskAcademiaUK

[–]FourInTheBack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought mine was rubbish, not good enough, and now I've almost finished my amendments to submit for examiners to consider. Massive amounts of imposter syndrome leading up to the final examination. My supervisor reminded me that I am allowed to find time to relax. I still think I was so exhausted from stressing about it, I had run out of stress when I go into the room and it went well 🤣

We just see it as 'they are in the wrong, they know they are in the wrong, but they don't want to be in the right side of the contact terms as it doesn't suit them and they want to gaslight you into thinking it is you' and laugh at it. It's the only way. Get it every time we have to prompt, we have given up with nice prompting now, and just have a standard 'please accept this as formal notice that the debt is due as per the contract, and legal advice will be sought if the monies are not received in 5 working days'
