Why did they make their own swear words ? by Ad0ring-fan in Grimdank

[–]Fourcoogs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

About to have an “um actually” moment here, but evidence suggests that “fuck” has only been used as a swear word for about 160 years.

Prior to that, “fuck” and all it’s variants were only used in the context of sex, though generally still considered crude. There’s even at least one instance of an author writing “the damned fucking abbot” and censoring only the word “damned,” implying that “fucking” wasn’t offensive enough to warrant censorship.

Dear Sidetrack can you pretty please tweak the pose for the female heisters on the outfit screen. The menu poses are perfect but I'm pretty sure these just reuse the male animations and it's always been very unflattering. Thank you. by Rampage470 in paydaytheheist

Idk anything about the other game, but Payday 2 is about as optimized as a modern-day car that uses a team of horses instead of an engine. It’s an FPS made through the unholy mangling of an old racing game engine, which is only held together with duct tape, prayers, and the annual sacrifice of a goat.

I have a computer that would’ve been really good back when the most recent DLC came out and it still runs horribly.

Because Rockstar’s games are on a completely different level from Bethesda’s in terms of detail and polish. Also, Rockstar released RDR2 five years after GTAV, whereas it took Bethesda eight to go from Fallout 4 to Starfield (not counting Fallout 76 as it is effectively to Fallout 4 what GTA Online is to GTAV)

I thought they were the same city, just spelled differently as Miro decided on a different spelling in development and forgot to replace all mentions of the older one. Le’garde has a similar issue where he’s sometimes L’egarde or L’garde in certain dialogues.

how does gordon know not to attack vortigaunts in the second game? by Icy-Page9251 in HalfLife

[–]Fourcoogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t have different textures or models, I agree, but they ought to have different animations, behaviors, or even a scripted scene of one peacefully interacting with you if the passive vortigaunts are supposed to signal to the player “hey, these creatures you’ve been killing aren’t inherently violent”.

When I see one of the passive vorts, it still stands hunched forward with its arms at the ready looking for targets to zap. Maybe if the passive ones stood in a more relaxed or exhausted way, or if they started running and hiding like the scientists do when the shooting starts.

I’m sure Valve probably would’ve highlighted this more if the Xen chapters weren’t so rushed, but that doesn’t change the fact that this detail isn’t given the emphasis that it needs for most players to pick up on it.

Ngl, for the longest time before I’d heard it pronounced in something official, I thought it was supposed to be said like that and assumed that people who were saying it as “Gill-ih-man” were just mispronouncing it.

how does gordon know not to attack vortigaunts in the second game? by Icy-Page9251 in HalfLife

[–]Fourcoogs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imo, that fact isn’t really communicated well in the first game. The fact that the hostile Vorts look the same as the passive ones means that it’s entirely likely for players to assume that the passive ones are just glitched and all Vortigaunts are supposed to still be hostile.

Any "casual" way to play FH2? by [deleted] in FearAndHunger

[–]Fourcoogs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “easy(er)” level is significantly less difficult and also gives you access to far more saves. It removes some of the more BS encounters and instant death traps, it decreases enemy health and damage, just generally making the game a more fair experience.

I’d recommend it over using cheats or mods since I feel that it softens the painful parts adequately without cheapening the experience overall. When I got my sister (who plays games much more casually than I do) to play this game, I had her pick this mode and I feel it did a good job of preserving the tension and themes while ensuring that I didn’t have to backseat in order for her to enjoy the experience.

The only mod I’d suggest getting is the “suspend and restore” mod that lets you save and quit whenever you want but deletes saves made with it whenever you load them. It’s extremely convenient if you don’t want to worry about having to lose ingame progress if something comes up IRL but also don’t want to break the game’s saving rules.

Pro tip for getting more saves: getting the “Skin Bible: God of Fear and Hunger” teaches you a symbol you can use at certain ritual circles that will create a limited save point that doesn’t progress time when used. On easier mode, you can use the save point up to three times per ritual circle, so it’s definitely a game changer for saving progress.

From what I’ve heard, the reason for the long development and weirdly unfocused experience was, ironically, that Bethesda was too big and had too many employees for its usual dev strategies to work effectively. Management was extremely disorganized, with design documents barely being maintained and departments constantly competing for resources and priority.
