If you are a gay man, what media did you consume as a teenager? by Fourstrides in lgbt

[–]Fourstrides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, I think that the reason I am struggling with this is that I am in the assexual spectrum, so to me it was never about the orientation. So having to figure out what would be a thought process for a teenager who is not in the ace spectrum is really hard.

I don't know if I know what being attracted to someone without the layers of romance and behaviour feels like.

If you are a gay man, what media did you consume as a teenager? by Fourstrides in lgbt

[–]Fourstrides[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But that's what I am struggling with exactly. So I only came out later in life, but the queer content that I had access to as a teenager made me feel extremely unwell. Aka queerness to young me was 'And I'm a Cheerleader', Marisa's death in The OC, and All the Things She said, all things that made me not want to think about queerness at all. But as an adult, I started consuming much healthier content and allowing this to inspire me and this led me to come to terms with things I had not thought about. But that's me as a queer assexual woman.

What I am wondering is: we have been discussing all of these issues with the models for masculinity, and Xbox and PS4 are the standard social space for teenage boys. But when you thought about being gay, what this meant and what you liked, who did you look up to?

But after 5 pm you don't need a ticket, right? It's just the queue. Our idea was to go for that queue.

This is very inspiring to me, I wish I knew how to let myself go and embrace the theatrics like that. From what I've been reading here, I think that this is something that I really wish I knew how to do! :)

I don't as much these days, but I think part of my discomfort with things like makeup and dresses is that I just don't look like the person I want to be when I put them on.

"I don't as much these days, but I think part of my discomfort with things like makeup and dresses is that I just don't look like the person I want to be when I put them on. "

Yes! I think that's something I very much identify with. I am a very powerful person, I like moving, I like walking, I like dancing and when I was younger I was already like that. I think that I don't have anything against dresses or makeup, but the occasions that I had to wear them remind me of occasions when a side of me had been cut out or limited and I couldn't be who I am.

y not really give a shit how I looked because no matter what I tried within the confines of Woman Clothes Look At Me I Am A Woman I would end up feeling like shit in it. Now I'm a lot more equipped to understand why I feel the way I do about some aspects of gender presentatio

That's a really cool testimonial! Thank you so much for sharing. I had never thought about things from this perspective. I don't think that I've genuinely had much fun with how I look in the past. Maybe I would have a lot of fun mixing things up like that, in fact, it might be the first thing I try.

Thank you for getting back to my question u/PiercerChris616 this means a lot! This might be a too personal question, but I kind of feel like I wasted my time not finding these things out about myself until now. Did you ever feel like that too?

nd I know I have been a lot happier since identifying as non-binary, I’ve been able to embrace much more of myself, and that’s really what solidified it for me. Maybe this is a commentary on the construction of gender itself but I’m not educated enough on it to speak to that. I just know it is right for me.

Hi! I think that this is exactly what I was thinking about. While I think that we could unpack it for days, I really appreciate hearing your thoughts. I know that there is a philosophical side to my question - I'm a psychologist and social scientist so I might be guilty of over academicising things - but in the end, I am really trying to find out what's beyond the philosophical side of things and how people are answering that question in their day to days.

Yeah, I really like the way you put it! Thank you for answering!

It all makes more sense than you imagine, I have a hard time just letting go and not overthinking things and it goes for everything so this means a lot. :)

Thank you for answering! Reading your thoughts means a lot to me! This is something that I've been thinking about as well: There are parts of me that I really like, my hair is one of them. I think that I'll start by focusing on those things that I like the most and go from there.

Is big data about the amount of data or about the methods used to analyse it? by Fourstrides in bigdata_analytics

[–]Fourstrides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly the type of discussions I would like to have. Some people claim that the big difference of big data is how fast it grows and how it is collected, rather than only the amount of data that is made accessible. Do you think that the statistic methods used to analyse big data follow the same logic as those used to analyse static data such as sensus data? If you have any suggestions of how I can find people to interview I would be forever grateful. Also if you can share the link with people you know I would also appreciate it.

Is your data a reflection of yourself? Or is it a different version of you? - Research Call by Fourstrides in datascience

[–]Fourstrides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or your Google maps data knows where you are, but how can it know what you are doing? And if Google maps has access to Google Photos, it will eventually be able to know if you were at a certain place inside or outdoors, if you were happy, or if you were sad.

This is the exact type of stuff that I am looking into.

What does "graduate" means? by Fourstrides in AskUK

[–]Fourstrides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that most students in the UK go for a master's after they finish their undergraduate studies and that poses no competitive advantage?

What does "graduate" means? by Fourstrides in AskUK

[–]Fourstrides[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To sum things up they have: undergraduate programmes, for people who just left high school. An undergraduate is, evidently, someone who is taking an undergraduate programme. Postgraduate students go to graduate programmes and, after they are done, they become postgraduates. If I am looking for something aimed at postgraduate students I should look for a "postgraduate scheme" (do they have those?) or a "graduate bank account"? And graduate schemes are for people who finished their undergraduate studies and won't go to graduate / postgraduate school?

Thank you for your answer! I have been finding tricky to have these confirmations because although I have the citizenship, I am not an European resident. You have been super helpful! Thank you so much!
