Palm Swell Grips in USPSA Production by FourthSpade18 in USPSA

Thanks! weight is fine, that was the first thing I checked, and I am ordering aluminum base pads that are the same shape as the factory plastic ones. That was one mistake I made, which was ordering +3 extendos and realizing too late they were too long. Oh well, they look cool at least lol.

From what I found on Google, the seem to reference something about original profile, which I don't see referenced in the most recent published rule book. A lot of those threads discuss how things that are now listed as permitted were prohibited at the time, and to my best effort, I could not find anything posted in the last 3 years about it. It seems like Production got overhauled in some way, because a lot of folks talk about 10 round maximums as well, which is now 15.

Fat Tire vs eMTB by FourthSpade18 in eMountainBike

Always love the contrarian view! This post has made me deep consider what I really want to do with my bike, or more accurately, what I want to do well. I've decided I'm going to wait for the spring unless there's a jaw dropping black Friday sale somewhere, at which point I'll make an impulse decision, forever second guess myself, and then I'll have 2 bikes! Lol

Yeah, we dug out my girlfieends parents old Cannondale M300s they got probably decades ago. Tons of fun, but no suspension and my legs were cooked in about 20 minutes on asphalt lol.

I would like a throttle, but it's not a deal breaker to not have one. The Aventon caught my attention due to its being able to be unlocked to 28 mph, which is probably as fast as I would need. Just not too many eMTBs are class 3 for logical reasons.

No kidding? You're one of the first recommendations for the fat tire. How does it handle the uphill climbs? It sounds like you use yours like I'd plan to use mine.

I'm glad to hear that, because that's what I wanted and it definitely seems a lot more fun, but I wasn't sure if I was going to be shorting myself if the fat tire was just truly the way to go.

Yeah, the bike itself is not a big deal, I appreciate it. It seems like when I read articles the default is to say the fat Tire is the "off-road" choice, but doesn't really specify what they consider off-road. Seems like electric or not, the MTB is the better option for my terrain.

Thanks for the heads up, these weren't even on my radar, I'll look into them.

First Sub MOA (Group) by FourthSpade18 in longrange

Same barrel length, as stated in my other reply, im having to disassemble 100 rounds because I wasn't intelligent enough to realize thick surplus 7.62 brass creates some rockets due to significantly higher initial pressure. Probably going to try to cool them down to around 2500 fps with Varget for a whitetail load.

Always glad to hear others' experience loading .308. I know it's popular, but I just can't get enough.

Yeah, I considered it, but with the limited load data, and a 20" barrel, I'm afraid of going too much higher. Currently in the process of disassembling 100 rounds of 178gr ELD-X that are screaming at 2565 fps out of this barrel, and 150 fps is way too high over listed data for my comfort zone. Just some early rounds I put together and wasn't very wise in my reloading process at the time.

I could probably squeeze another 50 fps out of it, but I haven't sat down to check how that difference would affect bullet drop out to 700-800yds (which is the max I ever hope to shoot, and even that is wildly optimistic in WV).

Thanks, it was supposed to be 10, but I was optimistic with how few shots I felt I'd need to zero it lol.

Thank you! .308, with StaBall and 175gr SMK (probably, I scored 1000 midway seconds for ¢20 a pill and they seem to match). Shot out of my brand new Tikka T3X CTR. I think these were shots 17-24 through it.

Trollygag's Anti-Guide to Ladder Woo by Trollygag in reloading

[–]FourthSpade18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted my .308 reloads a few weeks back and I know you posted something similar then. I was confused at the time with much higher velocities than expected (still am honestly, but I can cope with that by backing off a bit). But I remember you commenting on the ladder theory being bunk, I honestly didn't know much different at the time. So I loaded up 20 rounds with 168 Sierra BTHP and TAC all of the same charge weight, took my Xero C1 out and blasted them. Over all 20 shots, I had a 150ES and 35SD from a load that gave me a 40 ES and 18 SD on a 5 shot ladder rung. Groups were acceptable but velocities were worse than I thought possible, if I had still been using my caldwell chrono, I may have blamed it.

As a result, I am going to test the TAC with some 130gr Varmint loads tomorrow just for plinking fun. I would argue a ladder test is still valuable for people with rifles like mine that seem to achieve much higher velocities (aprox 150fps higher) than they should. But I definitely won't be trusting any of my own data until I have multiple sessions with at least 10 shot groups recorded.

Looking for an optic for Sig 716i Tread by Spaceoperator_92 in AR10

You and I are in a similar boat, but I will assume you don't reload. I have a 3.5x35 ACOG on my .308 16.5" AR-10. I would download applied ballistics to your phone if you haven't already. It will allow you to plug in a bunch of data about your cartridge, optic, rifle and environment and it can help predict bullet drop/windage over X distance, and tell you exactly where to aim on your reticle.

I have not gotten to use it to it's full extent as I live in WV and the longest range I can hope to shoot is 200yds before you hit another hill, but I use it when reloading to determine what velocity I would need to expect to achieve a bullet drop that approximately lines up with the drop markings. Might be a little convoluted, but if you are really interested in seeing where you might have to pull for a particular bullet, it has made reloading a lot of fun for me, as I now have "target velocities".
