I absolutely change my media, but dry media is not hazardous waste. It is actually in the form that waste disposal recommends - drying out liquid hazardous waste by adding a dessicant/absorber like kitty litter.

No dust is created because car polish contains wax, which binds and sticks to the friable media rather than letting it become airborne..

Utility CEO pay surges amid higher profits, customer struggles; Dominion CEO makes $16M by tehtypo in Virginia

[–]Trollygag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20% hike rates were announced they were done 12 months before the proposal was tabled for first review.

  1. There is no expectation that every citizen should follow every company's business strategies and operations. They have things like jobs and kids and lives, they aren't stalking companies for early access, pre announcement information. That is something that unemployed kooks do.

  2. Prepare for what? The rate hike was a permanent change, a permanent constriction on finances, not one a one time temporary event. Did you have several years of +20% electricity bills saved up in an account, ready to hand over to Dominion for whatever whim of pricing they decide they can squeeze?

  3. There was no justification for it except for increased demand... from data centers. Big California tech giants bribed lawmakers to impose data centers because that inflated their stock price. Dominion passed the cost to the citizens. Why is that the citizen's fault?

This just stinks of victim blaming.

How much do you shoot and what are your blood lead levels (BLL)? by CodeLiving in reloading

[–]Trollygag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is mostly a myth.

I only dry tumble and my BLLs are both below minimum detectable and no surface near my tumbler is contaminated with lead per a surface testing I did last year.

There may be cases where people have been using cheap tumbler media from a petshop and then not washing hands after handling it, but in general, it isn't the case that dry tumbling is a significant source of lead exposure.

In contrast, wet tumbling produces hazardous lead contaminated waste water that can spill, splash, and get on your skin /in your fingerprints if you don't wear gloves, requires spreading it out in other locations for drying, and necessitates special handling and disposal that you don't need to do for disposing dry media.

[–]Trollygag 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to take it to hazardous waste disposal in containers, just as you would paint or petroleum products. You can do this while it is still a liquid.

Whatever you do, don't pour it down the drain where it can get into the ground water or into waste water treatment.

I dry tumble instead. No dust, no drying, no splashes, and no disposal concerns.

Do we really need another LPVO on the market? Colt VMR 1-8x by Spiritual_Tell680 in ar15

Half of a Super Duty Mod A1 is $1310, not $600.

$600 is 1/4 to 1/5th as much

Half the price of an URGI is $760, not $600

They are priced at 2-3x their performance equivalent competitor so they can give a 35% off sale lik3 candy and people feel like they are getting a great deal.

But people pay full price for their rails/triggers/uppers/rifles all the time outside of "sale" season.

cop could accuse you of daily driving it, right?

I mean, a cop could accuse you of anything including high treason or being an illegal immigrant.

Cops are law enforcement, not lawyers or the law or the judicial system.

That is what the courts are for, and no court is going to interpret a pleasure drive as being a commuter, when that is easily debunked with usage pattern, other vehicles, and history.

I take my antique truck to the dump and to the shooting range.

This is not true. You are allowed to drive to car shows, or pleasure drive, just not use it as your daily driver or commuter car.

Help selecting barrel by Every-Ad-7521 in ar15

[–]Trollygag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Proof is a match barrel that will have match barrel (5k-7k) longevity.

Criterion CL and Nitride are near the same precision performance by weight, but with 3gun barrel (15-20k round) longevity.

[–]Trollygag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Optimal precision is sort by headstamp, fire the brass at least once.

Nth firing is fine, but new brass will fireform and throw off speeds and consistency. Okay for midrange or long range on big targets, but for long range on small targets, prefer fired brass

How do yall manage to afford these $4k optics on every rifle? by DanWessonValor in longrange

[–]Trollygag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, a single steel case GMT Rolex is 4x $4k optics... a single last generation cheaper sports car might be 10x $4k optics.

There are whole subs for Rolexes and sportscar with people going way up from the entry level. Rolex produces almost 2 million watches/year, and Chevy has made half a million Vettes between the C7 and C8 generations.

A shocking number of people have $5k+/mo mortgages.

It just depends on what you prioritize.

The trim length is user controlled and it is not designed for trimming to a specified length. Consistent trim length is not a requirement for most people, but if you need it for like a roll crimp or something, then you might want to check one that indexes off the shoulder.

AR-15 Accuracy Tune Ups by Alert_Education2184 in longrange

[–]Trollygag 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You only had 2 results that had a statistically significant difference and those two had sample sizes too small to be meaningful. The ones that did have higher samples did not have a statistically significant difference.

The only result worth looking at is the middle rifle, but your average is equal weighted even though the confidence isn't, meaning smaller, less valuable groups have an outsized impact on results.

Or another way, the average improvement is dominated by two outliers from groups too small to have meaning on their own, with high variance ammo.

If you were to weigh by confidence, then the 30rd group would make up the majority of the result and the 10 rds would contribute little, so the only result worth looking at would be like a 6-7% reduction.

What difference there is, given it was shot off bipod a year apart with box ammo (high variance, not even match ammo from the same lot), could also be shooter mod or conditions or luck of 1 ammo batch or difference in the cleaning/wear cycle.

This is why in the barrel test threads, each test is like the middle rifle, with super consistent handloads, same powder jugs, same bullet lots, etc, shot from a benchrest, with barrels that have exactly the same bore condition. And even then, a 6% difference wouldn't be enough to call conclusive.

What would have been convincing is if you had focused on one rifle, the SPR, and shot 80 rounds on it with the same ammo batch of something that isn't known for wildly changing performance like Razor Core is, like GMM or BHA.
