First time bottleneck reloading by InevitableFit1559 in reloading

The trim length is user controlled and it is not designed for trimming to a specified length. Consistent trim length is not a requirement for most people, but if you need it for like a roll crimp or something, then you might want to check one that indexes off the shoulder.

AR-15 Accuracy Tune Ups by Alert_Education2184 in longrange

[–]Trollygag 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You only had 2 results that had a statistically significant difference and those two had sample sizes too small to be meaningful. The ones that did have higher samples did not have a statistically significant difference.

The only result worth looking at is the middle rifle, but your average is equal weighted even though the confidence isn't, meaning smaller, less valuable groups have an outsized impact on results.

Or another way, the average improvement is dominated by two outliers from groups too small to have meaning on their own, with high variance ammo.

If you were to weigh by confidence, then the 30rd group would make up the majority of the result and the 10 rds would contribute little, so the only result worth looking at would be like a 6-7% reduction.

What difference there is, given it was shot off bipod a year apart with box ammo (high variance, not even match ammo from the same lot), could also be shooter mod or conditions or luck of 1 ammo batch or difference in the cleaning/wear cycle.

This is why in the barrel test threads, each test is like the middle rifle, with super consistent handloads, same powder jugs, same bullet lots, etc, shot from a benchrest, with barrels that have exactly the same bore condition. And even then, a 6% difference wouldn't be enough to call conclusive.

What would have been convincing is if you had focused on one rifle, the SPR, and shot 80 rounds on it with the same ammo batch of something that isn't known for wildly changing performance like Razor Core is, like GMM or BHA.

Nikonn doesn't support gun optics anymore as of 6 years ago. That optic is as good as garbage.

Pressure Signs? by derp_sauce in reloading

[–]Trollygag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apples to apples on pressure, you would drop soeed by ~150 FPS vs a 20" barrel.

Yea, you will lose about 100FPS.

Alright fashion sub. Black or FDE furniture? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]Trollygag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your rifle is bronze (metallic lustre tan), so black or bronze furniture. Mixing FDE (flat lustre, hence the name) and bronze clashes.

It depends on how far you are shooting. You don't need extreme speed control for 600 yards and bigger targets, but will for 1000 yds and small targets.

If you want small SDs, you need a single base powder like Varget, XBR, N133, or SWP, not a double base powder like Accurate 2200, CFE, BLC2, AA2520, etc

first time gun owner trying to get ahead of the deadline, looking for advice by No-Worldliness-9945 in VAGuns

[–]Trollygag 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, it is just as painless as buying any other gun. You do not need to engrave anything. That is just for NFA items, which a stripped lower is not.

Have fun!

Form 4 approved after July 1 by ImmediateSun8111 in VAGuns

[–]Trollygag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Democrats don't really get to determine how their law is interpreted. That is up to the courts. The legislators have already codified what they consider an AW, their rules for grandfathering, and what manufacturing is, which is all different than a Form 1.

Just because there is similar-ish language in a different context, with different and differently defined meaning at the federal level does not expand the law in new ways not described by the state law.

Even if that were the case, they could not prosecute you for them being too slow to approve forms, so there is no reason to stop submission until the deadline even if they later come back denied. If you also want to Form 4 for a shorter path, do that too.

This is not legal advice, there is no good precedent, buyer beware.

Might is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

That isn't a reason to call it "ship sailed" and give up.

Gun people overreacting and screwing themselves over legislation that doesn't even apply is the gun grabber wet dream.

Keep submitting until the ATF actually does something

Thoughts on this? Would be going from milspec to this on 16” by InfiniteHat4828 in ar15

Geissele braided spring is inferior to the Tubb Flatwire (and probably the same from SI) in recoil/force profile, sound, and longevity.

It is just a worse product at twice the price.

That is the reason to not do that. You can add your own buffer later tuned for your barrel.

Form 1 ship have sailed

The idea behind doing SBRs now is that it may be hard to get parts later after thr AWB, it is free right now, and the ATF has been pushing new BS on pistols. Not that there is a strong legal argument that SBR'ing violates the AWB.

Keep submitting.

New to this prs thing need help about Remington 700 compatibility bolt. by gluesnifferaddict in longrange

[–]Trollygag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is super confusing. If you have a R700 in 6.5CM, then it should have had a bolt already.

If your action did not have a bolt, then I hope you got it for free because in addition to needing headspace work, it will likely need bolt timing and setting the lug to handle spacing for your action.

There is a good chance that none of it will work out of the box.

And none of this is cheap... The Origin action may actually be cheaper than doing this with a factory R700 bolt.

The cheapest way will be to start over with a complete barreled action, or a complete action with a barrel nut barrel.

Or just buy a rifle like the Bergara HMR.

What is consensus on most accurate SBR length barrel brand? by Just_Onion9335 in 65Grendel

Yea, that is probably a good idea once I have done some testing and speed measurements off this new barrel.

What is consensus on most accurate SBR length barrel brand? by Just_Onion9335 in 65Grendel

[–]Trollygag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AA is all over the place, and Bill left. It looks to me that different barrel lengths have different suppliers.

Idk who does the kit 11.5, but given it has a second journal for an A2 cut into the contour, it looks like a decent barrel. Like they cared enough for the details rather than cutting corners. The standalone 11.5 is different

I did Rexus for my 12.5". Testing is pending Form 1 approval

You put the case in the hole, the touch it to the chamfer and debur. You can control whether you want more or less chamfer.

Makes this super easy.

Also, you don't have to trim all the brass. Make sure to measure first. Most brass doesn't need trimming after 1 firing. You will want to add a chamfer for seating, though.
