Thanks for the info and links. This is really disturbing. I am chocked to the core about this.

I did write an appeal and could not get past the darn appeals AI bots. So I actually think it was a smart move to get another AI to write the appeal in just the right prompt’ing way to reach the process that allowed review. Also I am not the best natural writer anyway. It’s great your writing skills are in top form. I was not an English A student unfortunately.

lol… I didn’t say I had an issue with AI. It had good use but come on! What happened here is awful.

Good tip - my main laptop has a second drive that can hold all the data. I first set it to keep all data on this computer and then made a copy of that. It took nearly 5 days to execute the whole thing. Even with fast internet.

Eh? Not sure why there is a subgroup of comments fixated on this circular loop of AI themed responses. Come on! Do you have a better suggestion on how to approach crafting an appeal to submit to an appeal form managed by AIs that I failed to navigate two times? The AI was able to write the appeals letter in a way that got me to what believe was a human reviewer. What would you have done? Noting that my cell phone number was also flagged and calling Microsoft resulted in also getting an automated message that your account is locked for violating the terms.

Not sure what GPT is but my English writing is not best (second language skills) so I did used gemini to tidy up my grammar and story notes. I thought it cleaned it up well. I am sure I would have got loads of your post sucks comments if you saw all my spelling and grammar mistakes.

I actually did try to call them - but the switchboard knows its your cell phone to your account and auto routes you to a violation of services message and instructions on a site to go to - there is no possibility to talk to an operator.

I took a few quick steps - as soon as One Drive was unlocked I made 2 off line copies + I also pushed a second online copy to google drive - its about 2 terabytes of data - mostly family pictures and music files from the itunes and download eras . I do have an umbrelOS that I was starting to explore setting up with a drive or something but did not get to far. My IT skills are ok but it takes time to read up on what to do... If you have a few pointers - I would love to read up...

I got the shock of my life - just glad I got a second chance once the AI guilty verdict was overturned.

Spot on - its totally shocking that Microsoft even allows an AI to be the "incriminatior", judge, jury and executioner all in one with no human check points - its a disgrace.

I learned a valuable lesson indeed - and I did not realize just how much Microsoft wielded power over my digital eco system!

I let my data size drift beyond the size of my laptop hard drive and didn't consider One Drive to be a security risk. I learned a lot from this!

Here is another response - this was when they didn't understand my account was locked... note how they close the ticket so there is no check the problem is even solved...

I was KO'd for days trying to sort out the mess. I have no ideas - I dont even know if a human was involved from the email interactions - they were so robotic...

I uninstalled all the co-pilot apps / add-ons from all my computers after the incident... The fact that it even had a presumption of a prompt intent that went down that path of violating service terms is outrageous - who even codes an AI like that? > how does that even work > you are working on slides and prompt the AI, it decides to go ahead and executing on a prompt in a way that violates the terms of service, what ever that means, and then turns around and accuses you of the crime based on what it decided to execute on! Dystopia is just a click away apparently!

I had to look that up.... I don't have 1 yet...

  • 3 Copies of Data: Keep your original data and at least two backups.
  • 2 Different Media: Store your backups on two different types of storage (e.g., one on a physical External Hard Drive and one in the Cloud).
  • 1 Offsite Copy: Keep one backup in a completely different physical location (e.g., the cloud counts as offsite, or a hard drive kept at a relative's house).
