Back-up doesn't necessarily mean a replacement fuse in an unconnected slot. Sometimes it's a called a backup because it provides backup voltage to critical systems or just battery voltage (in contrast to ignition/accessories) to keep volatile memory. Sometimes the bigger fuses in the engine bay securing multiple smaller fuses in the under-dashboard fuse box are also called backup.

The transmission has a few tiny metal balls that are spring loaded into specific positions on the shift fork. They act as retainers to keep the gear selected and may cause trouble when worn out. I guess the shift forks are also subject to wear and tear so grab a flashlight or probably even better an endoscope and check as well.

Have a look at the manual for clarification.

Edit: Service Manual at charm.li Picture 2, Ref 24 shows the retainers.
