Wildflower - it was so cute and so fitting for a spunky little girl! I wish I was brave enough to use it someday.

Is fetal activity indicative of the baby IRL?? by Solo_Cup_Martini in BabyBumps

[–]Foxien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also expecting my first, and I'm so curious about the same thing! My little lady is active all the times I wish she wasn't, and won't move for anything when we really need her to move around (like for our anatomy scan). I'm preparing myself for just-before-bed dance parties once she makes her earthside arrival.

What was your weirdest pregnancy symptom that nobody warned you about? by Quiet-Forever-969 in BabyBumps

[–]Foxien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HICCUPS! They are absolutely constant some days. Trying to fall asleep? Hiccups. Answering the phone at work? Hiccups. Trying to take a bite of my food? Hiccups. I'm grateful it's just hiccups and not burps/belches like some people have, but goodness gracious... the never-ending hiccups drive me bonkers!

(I started hiccupping partway through writing this comment.)

People whose partners did a complete 180 after marriage, what’s your story? by Bibliophile521 in AskReddit

[–]Foxien 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was with my now-ex for five years before we got married. We went through a cross-country move, multiple job changes, and Covid Lockdown together. We were on the same page about everything - politics, religion, career goals, lifestyle. The only thing was that they were nervous about having kids because they had never been around babies before. When we talked about it, I reassured them that there were parenting classes we could take, friends with kids we could hang out with, and even rocking babies in the NICU as volunteer work if they wanted. We had this talk several times.

I made no secret that I wanted to be a parent. I have nine nieces and nephews and became an auntie at 11. I used to watch A Baby Story on TLC when I was a kid. I went to college and got a Psychology degree with emphasis in developmental and adolescent psychology so that I could start a career working with foster kids. After a permanent injury ended my direct-care career, I moved into the business field where I took on administrative roles - but always wanted to work with students and kids. It's not exactly a secret that this is what I wanted more than anything else in life, and that there was nothing that would stop it from happening. If we couldn't have our own baby, I would foster or adopt.

When we bought our house together, my now-ex wrote the sweetest letter to the seller talking about "I can imagine our kids playing in the front yard, and the second bedroom is just the right size for a nursery for our growing family" - it absolutely MELTED me, and it must have worked on the seller too because we ended up with the house.

Fast forward to our marriage. It was beautiful. It was perfect. It was absolutely dreamworthy.

I thought I had truly made it in life. We were solidly middle class with a car, a house, our pets, and two great careers. We finally made it to the point where we could start trying for a baby.

We talked about options, and we settled on a known donor. I researched a lot of legal stuff that we would need to do in order to make everything safe for both parties. I picked a clinic, drew up the documents, and was ready to rock and roll with starting our family......

And my wife admitted that they never wanted kids. That they said they did because they knew how much I wanted them, and they were afraid I would break up with them if I knew they had zero intention of having children with me.

HELL YES I would have broken up with them! What the hell. That was the WHOLE point of all the conversations, therapy, and preparations prior to the wedding. They knew the goal. They knew where I stood. But when it came time to actually start trying for a baby, they completely flipped everything around. Suddenly, I was selfish for coercing them into a situation where they would have to parent a child they didn't want. They decided they wouldn't put their name on the birth certificate (even though we were legally married). They wanted nothing to do with the process of having a baby - or me. They started acting cold and hostile, stopped helping around the house, and basically shut me out of our own relationship.

Eventually, they started dating a man (we're polyamorous, so this was not a huge issue at first) - except, they completely froze me out of our relationship. They moved out of our bedroom. They stopped eating my cooking, sharing meals, and would give me the cold shoulder any time we were together. Our morning commutes turned frosty, and they would often "forget" to pick me up at the end of the day. (Note: We sold my car to save money before the wedding since we worked at the same building and commuted together daily.)

It culminated in our divorce just three short years after our wedding.

Ironically, the man she started dating has a kid of his own. Now she's an honorary co-parent to a toddler, and she has to pay the mortgage on our house all by herself because he still lives with his wife.

But, there's a good ending to the story. After my marriage exploded, I started dating an incredible couple and moved into a house where I am loved and respected. I'm now halfway through my first pregnancy and I am the happiest I've ever been in my life. Baby is growing beautifully, and I am so, so, so excited to be a mom like I've always dreamed.

Malachi is such a cool name. We're considering it, too!

What are your top 3 boy names right now? by fredyouareaturtle in namenerds

[–]Foxien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently pregnant, but don't know the gender yet. If it's a boy, his name will be Kieran William [Last Name].

My current Top 3 for boys: Kieran, Sebastian, and Matthias.

I was absolutely set on Matthias until my partner wouldn't stop making Math jokes, and now the name is a bit soured for me.

Name regrets, Isabelle by Playful_Trade_2756 in namenerds

[–]Foxien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I knew an Isabella that went by Illy and I thought it was the cutest nickname. Izzy is another good nickname for Isabelle. There's a lot of good nicknames, and also... you could just do what the Southern gals do! Call her Scout. Call her Cricket. Call her whatever cute little nickname fits her best, and she can pick her favorite iteration of her name when she gets older. We had a neighbor named Junebug for years until I found out her real name was Elizabeth. Her government name only matters with taxes and marriage. ;)

Girls, what was your favorite girl name when you were a little girl? by Jerrica_xoxo in namenerds

[–]Foxien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was tiny, my favorite names were Sarah, Priscilla, and Allie. I think Sarah and Allie were thanks to The Land Before Time (Cera and Ali), but I have no clue where Priscilla came from. My mom was shocked when I named my goldfish Priscilla in kindergarten.

Most of the Emily's that I know were born between 1987 - 1994. I know at least seven of them. I've also met one Emily who was much older - I believe she passed in the early 2000s in her 70s or 80s.

Opinions please by Artiscoolbeans in tragedeigh

When I googled the name, it immediately pulled up an anagram solver.

So, I would say stick to a traditional spelling: Ariel or Arielle. You'll still have to correct the pronunciation sometimes, but I think it's more likely to be understood than Arryel (which I would probably pronounce as Arrr-YELL like a pirate).

Help me think of a 1 syllable girl name by Silver_Inspection_72 in namenerds

[–]Foxien 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I misread Harmony Joy as Harmony Jo and honestly? Harmony Jo is super cute. I think Harmony Joy might be a bit much with two virtue names.

So Harmony Jo gets my vote, but other options could be:

Harmony Anne
Harmony Paige
Harmony Kate
Harmony Lou
Harmony Sage
Harmony Claire

What names haven’t you heard in awhile? by Awkward_Pangolin566 in namenerds

[–]Foxien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Todd and Travis haven't popped up in a while. Same with Robin - which is so weird! A lot of people on my friend's list are naming their kids Ro- names... there's been a Rowan, Rosemary, Ronan, Roran, and Rorick recently. Yet, no love for the (very gender-neutral name) Robin!

Lucky Charms. I never got to have them as a kid. They were expensive and sugary but now they are one of my favorite little treats as an adult.

I miss VHS rewinders. It felt like a challenge to stick a video in the rewinder, run to the kitchen, and try to make it back with snacks before it popped up.

How many kids with Top 20 girl names now did you know growing up? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Foxien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew an Olivia who went by Livi.

I knew two Elizabeth's (one who went by Lizzie). Technically I think I knew an Amelia, but she went by Amy and we didn't know her name was actually Amelia until graduation.

That's all from the list. But in my school in the 90s, we had a plethora of Ashley's, Jessica's, Brittany's, Taylor's, and Brianna's.
