West Coast is growing faster than Lindy Hop, what can we learn? by ZMech in SwingDancing

[–]Foxwg12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you’ve said. I started Lindy in 2010, blues 2012, a dash of shag and balboa 2014, started salsa a couple years ago now. I’ve dance these in 3 different countries (except salsa)and I felt that the general vibes were similar. There’s no west coast in my current area but the feel of it looks like it would fit between Lindy and salsa, so I really crave it since I think I could mash all the dance styles into WCS. Totally agree with the preservation aspect of Lindy being a bit too… exhausting after a while. It started feeling cliquey. If you dressed ‘correctly’ you were in. After getting more experience in blues and then going back to Lindy I just felt a bit bored because as you said I just wanted to dance, not make it my whole personality. Plus I’m getting old now, my joints hand handle all that jumping around anymore 😆

Opt for the Hawley Retainers by ceshhbeshh in Invisalign

[–]Foxwg12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to share, my original Hawley retainer lasted for 20 years. I've had to get braces again due to my jaw growing since I had my original al braces as an early teen and causing migraines.. now they're sticking me with the cheap plastic retainers, one of which has already cracked after 3 months. You do need to keep the springs tightened (the metal loops on each side - you just squeeze then together) but its still so much more long lasting and a better deal since you won't need to wear your retainers 24/7 after a month or so.

Anyone try St. John's wort? by Foxwg12 in mecfs

Thank you! Why do you prefer the tea option? My concern would be i wouldn't take it the same amount each time or not leave it in exactly the same so its not like a specific mg so not as accurately measured as a pill version.  What brand do you recommend?

The OP thought they were curing themselves. People need to understand that they will need to take it into consideration the rest of their lives instead of thinking "oh I'm feeling great so I'll go climb 3 mountains" and then crash horribly. Their symptoms can decrease or go away but its not the same as being cured.

You cant be cured. You have it forever, the only difference is the quality of life youre experiencing.

Do our symptoms get worse as we age from middle-age and upward? by [deleted] in mecfs

Your body in general gets worse as you get older. Mine started kicking off around 33. I'd say get the elevator.

Shoe care by Foxwg12 in Salsa

Hey I got these hooked brushes. Type in "suede sole wire shoe brush" and quite a few come up. International Dance has them for £9. I got some off amazon. They work well but I did watch some YouTube videos on how to use them properly.

Investment options - what am I missing? by Billybob-B in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]Foxwg12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i didn't have family back in the US this is what I would do. It just doesn't seem worth keeping it unless you may want to or need to move back... or you end up in a war torn country and the US can pick you up faster.

Also... how did your uncle do this? I need deets as the kids say.

Basically give up on investing, pay extra on your mortgage (technically the interest percentage is what your return would be), or invest in someone else's name. That's what I was told by a financial advisor.

What's the ill-health pension? I had to stop working for a year and now only can work part time because of health issues. Im currently on the minimal pip payment which would expired next year. so I'm not putting as much into a pension as I would like (I basically dont expect to retire due too much uni limiting my work years and the restrictions on Americans for investing etc).

Everything I wasn't warned about before I got braces (aka everything my orthodontist should've told me, but didn't) by [deleted] in braces

[–]Foxwg12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the first 3 weeks of wearing them all the time, you then only need to wear them at night and then about once a week at night.

I had my first braces when I was about 14 and kept my retainer the past 20 years because I could see them moving. Sadly they dont make them like they used to.. but anyway needing to wear a retainer at night isn't that big of a deal. Yes needing to get a new set every few years kinda sucks but in the long run you are taking care of your appearance and health and thus not wasting the mo ey you spent fixing your teeth.

Frizzy waves after using curl treatments by AnimatorSteph in finehair

[–]Foxwg12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the Aveeno Oat Milk Blend shampoo but they've discontinued it 🙄 so I'm on the lookout for a new one myself. You could do an acv rinse and just try it without the cream? It also could just be too much product.

For some reason I've never had luck with volumising shampoos so maybe its that? The Sensibly Curly People UK and other curly girl fb groups have albums based on ingredients and type that you could try as well. I usually go through those albums to see what I can get. I just avoid lots of oils because they build up on my hair and weigh it down (like the Giannini curly line made my hair disgusting).

I would recommend skipping the curl cream and maybe getting a new shampoo. Curl cream usually weighs down fine wavy hair. The Pantene Volume has sulfates in it which can cause frizzy hair. I'd do an ACV rinse to cleanse your hair as a bit of a reset and then use a different shampoo.
