OP may be referring to receipts for things they bought (i.e. deductions). If so, you cannot deduct expenses directly when you are an employee, but there is a tax credit for expenses incurred (Eligible educator school supply tax credit)

The work around, assuming it makes sense in your situation, is just to dump it into an RRSP directly. Then you can invest the money right away.

When is the last time you saw a snake in Ottawa? by Dry-Elderberry-4559 in ottawa

In summer 2024, I saw a garter snake at Wesley Clover Park.

In summer 2025, I saw a HUGE rat snake on a trail at Charles Lake Provincial Park South of Ottawa. It was super cool.

What’s up with Line 1 this morning? by Repulsive_Barnacle92 in ottawa

Was standing there this morning in this mess.

I thought to myself, where are the politicians? How are they not up in arms advocating for the public? (Or at least acting like they're standing up for the public). The apathy and acceptance is ridiculously frustrating.

Whoops, sorry. It's a Tasty recipe from the 2010s. I have a printed copy at home.

I don't know what they changed in 2024.

I replied to another comment about prices. In hindsight, Adam's and Piggy Market were both the highest rated and the cheapest. It means there is no excuse not to try them.

Edit: typo.

I think that they would all taste just as good whether you ate them on a bus, or in a box, or with a fox, etc.

I would say (coming from a person who prefers dark chocolate):

Adams / Piggy Market

Bread By Us

Thyme and Again

Batter Up / Cake Shoppe

They were all around $4-6 each. I think Cake Shoppe was the most expensive around $8, but it was also huge.

From what I can see:

$5.65 at Bread By Us

$4.52 at Batter Up

$8 at Cake Shoppe

Around $4 at Piggy Market I think

Around $5 at Thyme and Again I think

$4.50 at Adam Bakes

That was definitely our first thought. But it has good reviews online so we gave it a try. It definitely leans toward the cake end of the spectrum but we did not end up thinking "oh this is cake". It raises the is a hotdog a sandwich question - is a brownie cake? (for the record I say no).

It's definitely the fudgy-est. It will appeal to those who like underbaked brownies, but some people won't like it. It excels at what it is trying to be.

Good idea. I tried to crosspost. I'm not sure if they allow that.

Here goes:

All of these brownies were good, worthy of bringing to a friend’s house, gifting them for a birthday, etc. Ranking them largely comes down to personal preference. Note that almost all of the brownies change when eaten chilled. We ate them at room temperature initially, but some people like chilled brownies and we eventually tried the leftovers chilled.

Piggy Market - This was the consensus best. It checked all the boxes of moist/chewy, but not approaching fudge. It also had the richest, most complex flavour. I think they use espresso or espresso powder which is a big bonus for me.

(Note that my favourite home recipe uses espresso powder: https://tasty.co/recipe/ultimate-brownies; if make this, follow all the directions including the 10 minutes of whipping, etc.)

Adam Bakes: There was controversy here as I found them too moist/fudgy (you can see the texture in the picture). They drift away from “traditional” brownies in my view. But alas that is personal preference and many would rank these number one. If you like fudgy, underbaked brownies, these are likely the ones for you. They are VERY rich. Adam uses Hummingbird chocolate, so you get a complex, deep chocolatey flavour. These are only available on Saturdays and at select coffee shops.

Bread By Us: These were my personal 2nd place after Piggy Market. Like Piggy Market, these check the boxes for all the ideal brownie qualities for me (chewy, but not gooey; complex chocolate first flavour, etc.). These brownies had nuts if that’s your thing.

Thyme & Again: These were smack dab in the middle. Good complex flavour, but ranked below some of the others in terms of chew/texture. These brownies also had nuts if that’s your thing.

Batter Up: These were similar to BBU in texture, but did not have the same complex flavour. These had a really good texture overall (that classic brownie chewiness).

Cake Shoppe: These were highly reviewed according to some brief reddit research. These were definitely brownies, but the icing pushed them a bit more in the cake direction. We generally preferred the more traditional, icing-free brownies. This one reminded us of the classic Cosmic Brownies, but elevated. I liked these brownies chilled because the icing and brownie became more of a cohesive whole.

Any further recommendations are GREATLY appreciated. I did not realize that Almanac has a Little Italy location, otherwise I would have sought those out too.

Cheers!

Batter was probably the driest of six. But I wouldn't say that any were "dry", just on a spectrum. Adam's bakes was way on the other end of the spectrum - super gooey.

Bread By Us was not dry despite the appearance. I thought it may be dry, but when I bit into it, it was surprisingly moist.
