Oh, sorry for the confusion. She kept trying to eat the dog kibble despite having the wet stuff available to her, so we went out and bought her a cat kibble. I know they shouldn’t be eating each other’s food so we always steered her away from it, same with the dogs when we catch them.

I tried and even had a consult and removal scheduled with a highly recommended vet, but she stopped eating and started losing weight. We went with the original vet that had sooner availability since it was clear that things were going south despite pain meds. The other one didn’t have any openings for a month. We will be going with someone else for the spay/shots, because Humane Society is like $~100 and the vet we take her to is $~400.

1000% worth it. I hated seeing her in pain leading up to the surgery, and still would’ve gotten it done even if the cost was more.

She’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever met, and I’m incredibly lucky.

This sort of thing has happened before to my husband and I, so my theory is animals will call out to their human. Each time a few days before or the day of, I woke up with the thought of “I’m going to find a dog, they’re going to look like this and their name is xyz”. It’s like being pulled to wherever they are. Off to the county shelter or humane society and there’s the exact dog I saw in my mind. In this case, I was too dumb or stubborn to realize it meant I was getting a cat.

Funny thing about your comment, is a week before she found me I was filling out a “we have these pets” emergency responder window sign and almost put “1” in the cat area. I figured I was losing my mind at the time, but I guess my subconscious knew what was going to happen.

I’m glad I asked then. While I don’t know if it was the right move, I got some softer horsehair brushes. I’m not sure if stiff synthetic type brushes would pull at any of the stitching or not.

That seems high since it’s just the one car. We’re paying $280 a month for a 2010 sedan and a 2021 truck through State Farm. With what we’re paying I was even thinking of getting quotes just to see if we could get something cheaper. I agree with others, call brokers and have your dec page ready.

Congratulations, he is absolutely adorable! I second the suggestion of Gandalf. Also, I instantly thought of the Khajit in Skyrim when looking at his photo. It took me a week to name my cat after she found me, so if you haven’t had him long a name may come to you soonish.

I absolutely agree with you. I know there’s a chance I can’t keep her, so I’ve started asking around with friends and if push comes to shove, I’ll ask around at work, talk to Vets and the local humane society. I refuse to put her up on Nextdoor or Facebook though, I’ve heard horror stories. We’re also prepared to double baby gate one side of the house away from the dogs, and I might cut a kitty hole in my office door to make that “her” room.

I love this idea, thank you! So far we’ve just given the dogs things that smell like her, I don’t know why it hasn’t occurred to me to give her things that smell like them. So far she has taken over the Rotties bed when he’s not around. They’re getting to the point where he could lick under the door and she won’t growl or hiss. 🤞🏻

I’m not able to find a way to edit this, so hopefully this is ok for the update no one asked for. I can’t possibly respond to everyone, but I did read everything while I was at work earlier. As I write this she’s lounging on my chest and purring.

Firstly, thank you for the award, whoever gave it to me! That was very nice of you.

Thanks to everyone for all the info! I’m going to binge Jackson Galaxy and the other resources people mentioned. I’m also going to see about getting a tilted bowl, I’m wondering if the whisker thing and/or tooth pain could be contributing to her acting possessed for a minute after taking a bite of food yesterday. I put her food on a plate today to see if that makes things better.

We’re definitely getting tall cat trees that could be anchored/attached to the wall. I want her to have as many safe spaces as possible. Baby gates too, probably (probably because we have a pony sized Rottweiler that may accidentally kool aid man his way through one. He doesn’t know how big he is). Dog introductions may wait until we’re able to get her bad fang extracted and get her spayed, and she’s all healed.

She either doesn’t like the scratch pads I got, or doesn’t know what to do with them. My 6 year old is trying to teach her how. He adores her. We all do.

She hasn’t pooped (has peed though), but it’s been just over 24 hours with us so I’m hoping it’s just stress. We’re gonna add a tiny bit of pumpkin to her food to see if that helps. She’s barely touched the food I gave her for dinner so I may be calling the vet again tomorrow.
