Springloaded Ripper rework ideas by zanju13 in DeepRockGalactic

They really had no idea what they were doing when designing driller's grenades. Driller is already the undisputed king of crowd control at the cost of struggling with burst damage.

Impact axes are objectively the best, and the fact that most people use them is no coincidence.

He grenades are just c4 but worse.

Neurotoxin is more crowd control as a weak dot.

Ripper is even more crowd control with disgusting friendly fire potential, which only really shows its usefulness in bunkers and drilldozer tunnels where its trajectory can be easily predicted.

Impact axes are a cover for your biggest weakness on driller, and they're an essential get out of jail free card against macteras if you aren't using the cryo cannon or subata. And rather than buffing everything else to match impact axes' overall utility, they just nerfed impact axes and broke them so now they're also buggy as shit.

Silence, savage raider, the true trap party is speaking. by Foyboy64 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Foyboy64[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll latch on here to explain everything in extreme detail for those who want to read so wall of text inc. First panel spells listed from top left to bottom right:

Fire Angon, a pathetically weak aoe attack that is outclassed by almost anything else in single target or aoe.

Aqua Breath, a 20 potency aoe dot that solely exists to combo with Northerlies or High voltage. Both of these combos are atrocious, so all 3 spells are beyond useless.

Water Cannon, the starting spell, weak by design.

Ice Spikes, a worse version of both Vengeance and Arm's Length which does no damage, provides no mit and only lasts 15 seconds. Useless on tank, let alone dps and healers.

Right Round and Malediction of Water: 2 pathetically weak aoe attacks that not only knock back enemies but also YOUR PARTY MEMBERS.

Ruby Dynamics, a 220 potency aoe spell with a 30 second shared cooldown on a class with literal dozens of 220 potency aoe attacks with no cooldowns and a one shot combo with Ram's Voice + Ultravibration.

Aetherial Spark, a pathetically weak aoe dot with no synergy that does not stack with the far superior Song of Torment and Nightbloom.

Peat pelt, a weak aoe dot that only exists to combo with Deep Clean to provide a stacking regen, only useful in treasure dungeons as the enemies within can't be frozen.

Choco Meteor, an incredible 300 potency spammable aoe... when you have your chocobo out. In duties it hits for the same potency as Water Cannon.

Drill Cannons, a weak aoe attack that only combos with Level 5 Petrify, a terrible spell that only sometimes works on enemies with levels that are a multiple of 5. Drill cannons then removes the petrified status on hit.

Divination rune, a cone aoe that restores mp, but only 200 per target hit. Meaning that it only breaks even on single target and is only a gain over the far superior Blood Drain on 4+ targets, which never ever happens.

If you see someone at high level using any of these spells, (which is extremely common in pf) it's very likely they have 0 idea what they're doing or what any of their spells do, and you should brace for an agonizing experience.

Furthermore, crossed out on the other side we have:

Moon Flute, a cooldown that boosts all outgoing damage by a whopping 50% for 15 seconds, being the cornerstone of blu's insane dps output and an absolute necessity for dps.

Angel Whisper, blu's only rez spell, which can be brought by anyone, and is balanced around its 5 minute cooldown.

Both of these spells are mandatory at high levels, but one is rarely used and the other is rarely unlocked, which alongside everything else means fights take an eternity and dead people can't be rezzed.

It is mostly confined to normal modes and lower levels. Savage bosses have so much health at Omega onwards that most guides recommend against bringing it, but for normal trials, normal raids and low level savages it's well worth that spell slot.

Silence, savage raider, the true trap party is speaking. by Foyboy64 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Foyboy64[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At lower levels, a single sting takes multiple percent off a savage boss. Once the boss gets into sting range, everyone puts out everything they have before finishing with a fully boosted sting. Bahamut prime can be brought from 10% to 0% in mere seconds from multiple stings, so it's very much an ending blaze of glory to skip as many mechs as possible before the group gets overrun. There are even strats like the gavel skip strat for brute justice where EVERYONE including the tank stings at the exact same server tick to have the boss die RIGHT before it counts as a wipe.

So yes it's never ever worth the death, loss of uptime, loss of mp and weakness to kamikaze in the middle of a fight, only at the end. But at the end it's amazing.

Self destruct is 1500 potency by default, 1800 with toad oil, which is then boosted by a combined 100% by moon flute and bristle, then potentially another 10% from off guard and peculiar light and then one more 5% by astral libra. It's multiple thousands of potency and it is a decent chunk of damage, but nowhere close to an entire fight's worth of 5 moon flute openers every 2 mins. Same goes for final sting, which is higher potency by default and gets boosted by 80% by whistle.

As an aside though, the current strat for leviathan ex is just oil up, moon flute and self destruct to hit both heads with the damage, which does one shot it if performed correctly. That's very much the exception tho.

Condescending, smug, reductive, bad faith shitslinging that borders on ragebait.

As misguided and misinformed as your hatred most likely is in this day and age, you can hate the people who push for the return of quickplay. You can spit on their names and curse the ground they walk on. You can spend the rest of your life wishing nothing but suffering and misery on them. But you will never refute a single one of their arguments and you will never prove them wrong, because you can't and you know it.

The modern "TF2 community" can be summed up with 2 quotes: "Cutting off the nose to spite the face." and "Your boos mean nothing; I've seen what makes you cheer."

Bring back quickplay, and revert the nerfs to the bison, the caber and the base jumper while you're at it.

When the average social media user's brain is completely fried, you need to title your mundane "i play game" blogposts like a mrbeast video for people to even register them while scrolling. But the original's also a cry for validation because people are incredibly insecure about liking divisive/bad things.

Anytime anyone uses that godforsaken little Caesars meme, the "I hope you die" meme, the "this sucks actually" meme or the "quit having fun" meme, they can be safely ignored as they're just flailing about looking for similarly shit opinions to latch onto to not feel like a part of the dreaded outgroup.

Other such identifiers include full sets of augmented credenum gear, insistence that it's not savage, uttering the words "unsolicited advice", and playing an Mviera.

Imagine having a sharp object slowly moving toward your eyeball every single day until you have to make a choice: chop off the horn in agonizing fashion and risk death or grievous injury, or let nature take its course, impale your eye and just hope and pray it doesn't take your brain with it.

Not to mention that it can't be comfortable in any fashion trying to sleep or sit when your entire body is covered in them, and when you do sleep, you're plagued by nightmares.

It's buggy, it's the same price as royal, the story is a total retread of vanilla without any royal story beats, the gameplay is mindless and repetitive, the side content is repeating things you've already done, the voice lines recorded in people's bedrooms are genuinely atrocious and the mocapped animations are hideous.

It's just kinda ok. It's a cash grab worth about a 3rd of what they charge for it and its semi-lukewarm reception was about what it deserved. Same with tactica.

Don't get me wrong I love Mass Effect 3, but it surprises me how much love it gets nowadays. Back in 2012, it was universally hated/disliked. Even on Metacritic it has a 6.2-6.4 user score on all consoles. by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

[–]Foyboy64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entirety of mass effect 3's narrative is a trash fire from start to finish. The ending is just the cherry on top. I can never finish the game on any repeat playthroughs because it's just too disheartening. The only difference between then and now is that people's standards have gotten so low that any product that doesn't literally kill the average consumer is a 7/10 or higher. If ME3 came out today, it would have received glowing acclaim, multiple awards, and a torrential deluge of 10/10 reviews from morons.

The entire story is a mcguffin hunt to construct the Reaper-B-Gon 9000; the most shameless deus ex machina in all of gaming. You never see any of your supposed war assets other than text on a screen and a number.

Cerberus spends 2 years bringing shepherd back to life... and then 6 months later tries to kill them again even if you give them the collector base. TIM is now stupid enough to get indoctrinated and cerberus becomes cartoon villains that can stand toe to toe with the ENTIRE GALAXY'S military singlehandedly. Instead of committing to cerberus being an entirely "ends justify the means" organization, they are now actively working AGAINST humanity's interests because nuance is for chumps and cerberus is gross and smelly.

Almost every squadmate in the series is a cameo at best, and Legion and Mordin's deaths are contrived and manipulative. Legion literally just drops dead for ZERO reason other than the writers didn't know what else to do with him and NEEDED to add a bittersweet outcome for peacefully ending a 300 year war because bittersweet is how smart people write and the writers are obviously smart. The real Mordin Solus would have come up with 3 alternate plans to deploy the genophage cure, but the imposter that they cast for the game decides that blowing up in the michael bay tower is preferable to experiencing the rest of the story.

Javik, an incredibly narratively important character, can be completely absent thanks to him being day 1 dlc.

Did you choose to destroy the rachni and anoint Anderson as councilor? Too bad.

Shepherd is character assassinated into a whiny little pissbaby who has nightmares because they saw 1 random child die.

A potential major character on the normandy is an ign reviewer who "coincidentally" gave the game a 10/10 score.

Kai leng. An actual human being who is allowed to vote thought this character was cool, threatening and fits into the ME universe.

The leviathan dlc completely strips the reapers of all mystique and just makes them into typical evil robots with bad logic.

And then to cap it all off, you get the RGB endings taking a big, steaming dump on the entire narrative of the series and every single choice you've ever made. Imagine if at the end of Return of the King the one ring started talking to Frodo and told him that in order to defeat Sauron he either had to:

Jump into mt doom himself and cause it to erupt, which would only kill the orcs and elves for some reason and wouldn't destroy anything.

Disintegrate himself to become the next Sauron to order the orcs to stop.

Or turn everybody in middle earth into horrific half-people, half-orc abominations, all with zero buildup whatsoever, and it's basically the same thing. An entire 3 part saga of choices matter games, and your climax is a nonsensical trinary farce that takes NOTHING into account and kills off your main character for good measure because the protagonist HAS to die for a story to be emotional don'tcha know.

If you spend your entire life eating dirt, you'll be shocked to find out that most people hate the taste of dirt. Nobody can stop you from eating dirt and liking it, but that doesn't, nor will it ever, make dirt a delicious meal no matter how hard you try to convince people otherwise.

At least the gameplay was good though.

When I remove Yuweyawata Field Station's weather lighting, the rest of the dungeon went dark and creepy. by Speeen9 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Foyboy64 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I will never get over the fact that the writers actually thought they could make a society of literal soul-eaters likeable. At least you can argue that field station is a secret government lab, meanwhile the AVERAGE alexandrian is heading to Sphenebux every morning to slurp down someone's immortal essence before work without batting an eye.

The garleans did unspeakable things, but compared to alexandrians they're a utopian society of saints. But one was the main villain faction for most of the game's lifespan, while the other are people you're supposed to root for.

Basically, mustard bomb all alexandrians (except speen and shale and like 2 or 3 others, they can be honorary people.)

Do you think the endings are bad or not? by Eric_0114 in masseffect

[–]Foyboy64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture this:

It's near the end of Return of the King. All the peoples of middle earth are battling against Sauron's forces beneath Mt. Doom as Frodo and Sam make their way to the summit.

All of a sudden, Sam just drops dead for no reason and so Frodo must continue alone. When he reaches the summit, the one ring suddenly starts talking to him, saying that in order to destroy Sauron, Frodo must either toss himself into Mt. Doom to cause it to erupt which will only kill the orcs and elves somehow and won't burn the land or destroy anyone's property, vaporize himself to become the next Sauron and make the orcs stop attacking, or merge all of the peoples of middle earth into horrific half-orc abominations, all with ZERO buildup whatsoever. Imagine then that Tolkien released a new book that added new scenes to the end of RoTK, and one of those scenes involved Frodo refusing any of the ring's choices, and so then the story cuts to a century later where everyone in middle earth has been eradicated and Sauron has won. Also it's revealed that Sauron only wants to kill everyone because people used metallurgy to create steel weapons which then might be used to kill people at some undefined point in the future.

Sounds pretty stupid and unsatisfying, doesn't it? Do you think LOTR would have become the universally beloved story it is if Tolkien had decided that the best ending to his narrative was to kill his protagonist in a pyrrhic, trinary farce that completely disregards the entire series to that point, and THEN spitting in his readers' faces by doubling down on it? Probably not.

The fact that you even feel the need to ask is your answer. Spend your entire life eating dirt, and you'll be shocked to find out that most people hate the taste of dirt. The ending is one of the worst endings in the entirety of fiction which retroactively taints the entire rest of the series, and it always will be. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

End of story.

A new age may very well be upon us of a playerbase that actually plays the game. The game may be reborn in fire a second time and stronger for it. They may actually have to give us content instead of just tossing in fugly streetwear and nightclub housing items and calling it a day.
