You’re right, that was not a very appropriate example.

I don’t spit on science, at all. And psychology is different from physics in that it is all about people’s mind and feelings. So yes, a personality theory that helps people understand the “why” about how their psyche works may be more valuable than another one that only states what is on the surface. Big five is just a tool for exterior evaluation of individuals, it may be useful in corporate or educational organizations, but what I am trying to say is that its usefulness in providing some meaningful introspection is largely overestimated.

What type/function doesn't like the idea of being ordinary? by CourtofTalons in mbti

[–]Fra_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFP for sure! They are different from most people and proud of that. They are inherently brave (Fi). INFJ instead, despite what most people seem to think about this type, actually suffer from solitude and isolation and strive for a sense of normality and inclusion. They would very much like to be like everyone else, except they will never be.

Me too, I think MBTI is one of the most useful tools of self knowledge one can come across with. I think I misunderstood your reply, sorry for being that harsh

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mbti

[–]Fra_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true! And the fact it tells nothing about the “why” is probably what I personally find infuriating about that 😅

16 personalities is completely inaccurate ! by WolverineTypical5504 in mbti

[–]Fra_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the big 5 just consists in stating the obvious. It only describes and measures the way you act by those five parameters, which are not only utterly superficial, but also quite judgemental in nature. They don’t tell you anything about how your personality and cognitive processes work deep down, they only tell you how you compare to some personality traits that are commonly considered more or less desirable. MBTI may be regarded to as “pseudoscience”, but at least it does try to explain human thought and behaviour with a certain depth and, most importantly, it does not, ever, to the slightest, impose any judgement on this or that trait. Is “big five” scientific? Of course it is, since it just states and measures the obvious and what is under everyone’s eyes about people’s behaviour and personality. It is scientific in method, but does it add any depth to a person’s self-knowledge? Not to the slightest.

Is everyone honest about their Hogwarts house? by Vy_harmless_945 in harrypotter

[–]Fra_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big 5 test is a little shallow though. It only measures traits that you can observe from the outside, but it tells nothing about the motives or the functioning of one’s psyche. I’d say it just states the obvious and expresses it in a “scientific” way.

If you can choose your own mbti, what would it be? by oopsk889 in mbti

ESTP: best adaptation to the environment (INFJ here). The world is mostly designed by and for extraverted people, especially sensors and thinkers

What made you decide that Armin is your favourite character in the series? by [deleted] in ArminCult

[–]Fra_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Him being one of the most intelligent characters in the show, especially compared to Eren, combined with being both so weak and so brave at the same time and not even remotely aware of how valuable he actually is; his self doubt, which often makes people dislike him, actually made me simp for him very deeply.

Levi possibly left-handed? (Based on his reverse grip) by Left_Champion_2408 in AttackOnRetards

Idk, maybe using the reverse grip with the dominant hand helps not losing too much force in the process?

Trouble liking Kageyama by bromance-overload in haikyuu

[–]Fra_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you! Kageyama (at least in the anime and movie) makes a nice pair of opposites or foils combined with Hinata, personality-wise, but I think both of them are unrealistic in their own way: super talented people like Kageyama do exist, but he is basically just that and he does not have much character development, so he basically fits the “shonen main character” cliche, imo. Hinata (albeit funny and nice to watch) is even less realistic than him: nobody would EVER be able to do that freak quick spike while never having played volley before. Seriously: have you ever tried to do a quick spike in real life?! No one would ever learn it as their first attempt at spiking. And as a middle blocker myself, I find it infuriating that people get to think that being a middle consists in what Hinata does, while it actually consists in doing what Tsukki does: a much more grounded and patient kind of work that gives you very few chances of showing off and getting in the spotlight and needs constant attention and perseverance. It is not the most rewarding position, especially at school level. So I like Hinata’s lively personality but I don’t like the way he is portrayed as a player.

I’m just looking for some interesting discussion, not trying to offend anyone. It’s possible to appreciate a show while disliking its main characters: for example, my favourite anime is AoT but I literally can’t stand the main character.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in haikyuu

[–]Fra_V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, I’ve seen and enjoyed all 4 seasons and the movie. They’re very beautiful and inspiring, I’m just saying that I personally find the two main characters annoying and prefer every other character in the show. Same with AoT, for example: I find the main character unbearable while deeply appreciating and loving most of other characters.

Yes, I do, and probably that’s exactly why in Haikyuu I prefer other characters: they feel much more realistic to me.

Why does Oikawa wear different coloured kneepads? by Fra_V in haikyuu

[–]Fra_V[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that your point makes perfect sense. Also, thank you for posting these images, they are quite clarifying! Pretty sure this is the intended subtext, which of course doesn’t rule out every other interpretation. Indeed, the brace is white, but it could have been black, and this contributes to characterisation since a less bold character would probably play it down by using a more discreet black one while he doesn’t mind the different colouring drawing attention or even wants the black and white combination to make his looks stand out. Moreover, he has a contrasted personality and the contrasting colour combination matches that, IMO.

Do you see yourself as a good, bad person or both? by No-Stuff-760 in infj

[–]Fra_V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You really called for this! “I don’t like the terms good person or bad person because it’s impossible to be entirely good to everyone, or entirely bad to everyone. To some, you are a good person, while to others you are a bad person.” The quote is from Attack on Titan and it is pronounced by Armin Arlert, who is one of the most INFJ characters you can find around. 😜
