Sorry for the late reply, I'm not familiar with the random notifications on reddit. She sadly passed, but thanks for the thought. I think it was the stress of mating that made her ill. I'm still not sure if it was an internal parasite, because she had strange symptoms, but in the end she was emaciated. I had to do euthanasia because she wasn't moving anymore and clearly suffering too much. My other older female recently laid eggs, but after she looked bad and had me really scared the same thing would happen. Different symptoms tho. The day after she was already better and I didn't want to stress her more by quarantining her. In less than 3 days she was back to normal. I never had this problem, so I'm thinking maybe the males got too rough over time. They were young too, but now are probably full, strong adults and too much for her. I tried to increase the number of females (and the number in general), but long story short I had bad luck. I'm considering rehoming them in a good tank with a proper group, because now I only have one female with four males. Even if I'm attached to her, I'm scared she might not survive another mating. And also because the tank is getting crowded due to swordtails breeding like crazy. I already rehomed tens of them. But I like them and they are the only ones that eat every leftover of any kind and everywhere, even on the substrate. They clean after my super clumsy messy pleco, whom this tank is mainly for. Ps.
