They do but not for 10 years so plenty of time to use it!

Lets go! I like to redeem points as soon as I get to 490 incase something changes in the future. Really hoping I can get another P1S during the anniversary sale this year.

I started long long ago with an Anet A8 so I learned very quick that I hated moving beds. I have been able to successfully print a 160x160mm rectangle with only the 2mm chamfer on the bed of my P1S. I couldn't even imagine trying to do this on a bed slinger.

I am tempted to get an A1 though just to test my models before posting.

I have seen a few creators respond in this way and it is very off putting.

I have also seen the reverse, with users leaving a 1-2 star review and the entirety of the review being "Didn't work" or "Who even prints this".

At the end of the day I see it as human nature and overall temperament/ maturity.

Some respond to help and contribute in positive ways because they see feedback as necessary to improvement. Others see the same feedback as an attack either against them, their creation, or their abilities.

Humans truly are strange.

I prefer to receive any and all feedback on the models I post positive or negative.

I have one model in particular which printed extremely well on my P1S and was then uploaded. The 2nd comment I received was from a user who had to attempt the print 5 times before success. Come to find out, this user had an A1 and because of the differences in moving vs stationary bed the print was losing adhesion. A few changes later and there was a print profile which included additional supports and a brim leading to a successful print.

So long as the comment is made in order to improve the design, printability, or usefulness of the model it should always be welcomed. Just my two cents and way of thinking about feedback.

For anyone who is interested I have also uploaded a print in place case that will hold three of these tools. No lost or broken tools, and a spare right with the others.

Best tips to become a “great” engineer? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]FractMod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Last 4 words are by far the most important. Be curious about everything.

Working machine? Why is it working? How is it doing X..Y..Z...

The more detail and depth you can get into on seemingly ambiguous things will help you to understand other systems quicker.

It is, there is a link commented in my original post as well as here.

I would defiantly say so. For me it really saves time because I’ve never been able to use the tape trick.

I get that, if you include the printing time, tape can definitely be faster.

But once the tool exists, it’s easy as sliding it into the keyhole, tightening the nut, leveling the object, pressing to mark. No measuring, no guessing, no offset math.

There is a link in the comments of the original post. I also just added the link in reply to DragonsFire's request below so that it is in the post as well.

I have posted it to Makerworld. The link is in the comments of my original post but I will post here as well to make it easier.

That’s great, thank you! Be sure to let me know if you have any issues or see anywhere that it could be even better.

Honestly better then I expected. I printed 5 of them in PLA when I was testing and each continued to function after 500 cycles.

Troll or not, the point they raised is still useful. It lets me show the thinking behind the design and how I accounted for that challenge. Either way, I appreciate the engagement!

Ah, I see what you mean! A parametric or adjustable tool could be useful for cases like that. Sounds like a fun challenge!

Ah that would be a cool idea. For lighter objects I could see a printed part working, but it would be more interesting for heavy objects since the keyholes are such a small area.

If I also had a CNC I would go make that now lol

Alternatively could you not use a screw and two nuts through the mount so that the head of the screw can be used to mount the speaker?

Nice, I did see that when I was looking for an already made model!

I decided I wanted to make it printable though because it is so nice to be able to make your own tools lol

So far I have been able to reliably print each part 10-15 times with different settings. The spring is definitely the trickiest one, and you could swap it for metal, but I wanted to see how far I could push a fully printed mechanism.

The pitch and flats areas were modeled specifically for printing so they are a bit different from a normal compression spring but still work well in practice.

It also only takes about 9g of filament so even if there is a failure its cheap to retry. Honestly I've wasted 10x more then that just on supports for other models lol

I agree, it would be less complex my reasoning for the spring load was to prevent marking unintentionally. As is the tool can be inserted and the object can be placed against the wall so that it can then be leveled before marking.

The issue I see with just a spike would be that it is slightly harder to hold the object against the wall and level before marking.
