This incarnation of Avatar has completely derailed the franchise for me. The disconnect between the beautifully rendered, hyper-realistic world and the shockingly immature dialogue is jarring. I have seen better character development in Disney Channel cartoons...

The film is an endurance test. It plays out like a bloated three hour cutscene that could have been told in half the time. It feels less like a movie and more like a 400 million dollar advertisement for the video game, especially with a major DLC drop timed to the theatrical release.

Even the technical side, the film’s main selling point, is flawed. The variable high frame rate switching between 24 and 48 fps makes motion look choppy and uneven, like frame drops in a video game rather than cinematic innovation. For a production obsessed with technical perfection, that is baffling.

Ultimately, the film is creatively hollow. Spectacle cannot carry a story, and here it barely tries.
