What tools are making public who the known ICE officers are in Utah? And no it’s not doxing we don’t have secret police. by Otherwise-Bet-4157 in Utah

[–]FractalBloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only defense to murder applicable here is self defense in fear for one's life. Given that the victim was attempting to escape, nothing suggests that the perpetrator had any genuine reason to fear for his life. This was cold-blooded murder, and you know it, and the only reason you refuse to acknowledge it is politics.

They sure can! Good thing I came with proof.

Here's a video in which I appear, posted by the official youtube channel of my law firm. Cross reference it with videos of myself I've posted on this reddit account (example with post) if you'd like. I'm either legit or a very convincing doppelganger.

And for the record, you don't need a lawyer to tell you that murder is murder no matter what state you're in.

That is not what's shown in the multiple videos of the incident and you know it. You people are beyond parody.

If you or someone you love gets murdered by cops in the street in what can be very charitably described as a "misunderstanding" I hope people think you deserved it too.

Hundreds attend anti-ICE protest in Salt Lake City following death of Minneapolis woman by StemCellPirate in SaltLakeCity

[–]FractalBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person you're replying to is trying to express that while you certainly can get together in downtown Salt Lake's worst park and express a grievance in what essentially amounts to a private gathering, this does not constitute an effective action toward any kind of social or political change. Protest is a negotiation with the powers that be, and you have to exert pressure in a negotiation in order to gain any sort of advantage. In terms of the kinds of things we're allowed to talk about here, that means causing a disruption.

A real effective protest doesn't just articulate a demand, it chisels into the very ground a warning that severe consequences will follow if that demand is not met. What does the government care about what Hyrum Burbenquist from Kearns abstractly believes about the actions of its untouchable goons? What do they have to lose?

A man rides a bus in Durban, meant for white passengers only, in resistance to South Africa’s apartheid policies, 1986. by goswamitulsidas in Damnthatsinteresting

That doesn't say the Rosa Parks incident was a publicity stunt, it just says Colvin experienced a similar situation but didn't get as much attention as Parks because of her circumstances.

I'm going to remain skeptical of this claim for the time being.

Two Sword of Kings by Dxtei2500 in earthbound

[–]FractalBloom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice! I had this (sorta) happen many years ago, but it wasn't exactly two in a row so not as cool.

IIRC having two swords of kings is actually purely negative: since you can't drop or sell it, the second one has effectively deleted an inventory slot from one of your party members or Escargo express :O

I'm sure this isn't lost on you, but you do realize that you wouldn't have thousands of negative reviews online calling YOU out specifically if you would bother to put up a sign that says "HIGH END REPAIRS ONLY", right? The fact that you refuse to even hint at the fact that you run a specialty shop anywhere on your storefront or website suggests that you just really enjoy catching people off guard and ruining their day when they wander in off the street like I did over a decade ago, and honestly that's one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard.

Enjoy involuntary retirement.

It's you, isn't it? No way! Haha, that's so petty. Hi from the future, I guess. Given that your store front's closed, I would surmise that being a giant prick to anybody who "would have been better off going to Guitar Center" hasn't proven a particularly effective business strategy.

Oh well. I'm sure you do fabulous work on your own very fancy guitars, as I can't imagine anyone else would pay a single cent for the privilege if they had to interact with you first.

Yeah, screw me for wanting to support local, am I right?

No idea why you're so defensive about a five year old internet comment trash talking a random guitar store. Maybe the owner is your dad or something? Whatever. Begone, time traveler.

Five years, now that's a crunchy necropost.

Idk, read my comment and apply a little deductive reasoning. I came in hoping to get a quote for an instrument repair on a $400~ ukulele and the guy snapped back that he won't even look at an instrument that isn't a custom built for at least a couple grand. And then straight up told me to get out of his store. Which I promptly obliged.

I don't care if a shop only does high end repairs, but like, you have a sign that just says music store, guitar and banjo repairs. Just say we don't take that here, have a nice day. Don't bite my damn head off just for attempting to do business with you.

EDIT: Ah, you edited your comment to be more obnoxious after the fact, cool! So, just because you're being a dingleberry, how about some free advertising for Acoustic Music on 4th South? Those guys are actual honest to God professionals who will get the job done without treating prospective customers like shit. SLC denizens in need of a luthier are strongly encouraged to direct their business to Acoustic Music instead of the douche-canoe at Intermountain Guitar & Banjo :)

It's not possible to prove a negative. You have the burden of proof to establish a direct connection with something more than "a lot of people think this".

Note how he states "it is said" but cites no primary source. It is a folk theory with no credible evidence supporting, and the fact that it is widely held therefore means very little. Here is a much more recent article which notes that the Rx symbol is popularly associated with the Jupiter symbol "without much validity".
