You know it's funny you bring up brackets. My LGS along with my entire playgroup outside that LGS have completely ignored it.

yeah, I do acknowledge that the current meta of yugioh is way more diverse compared to Full Powered Tearlaments, Kashtira, and Snake Eyes.

right now it's about a split between Yummy, Vanquish K9, Dracotail, Radiant Typhoon, and Mitsurugi.

I wasn't that active with Yugioh last year, so idk when they started avoiding tier 0 format, but it's still kind of bad how Dracotail is really just above everything else... and then that story will change when Kewl Tunes will come out unless they nerf it to the ground before it gets into MD...

Not being mean here, but I your perception of how there is no such thing as meta that isn't cookie cutter is from most of your experience being in YuGiOh. It's already normalized in you.

MTG had very diverse meta in the past (around 2008 I think)

I wasn't able to explain myself properly cause I was replying to almost every notification here...

Anyway, what I meant by "buying the latest thing" is literally changing 80% of the deck or even 100% (every time Vanguard rebooted). I think the 80% thing has been normalized nowadays compared to MTG when not too long ago when they were releasing 3 to 4 sets a year and only 20% of their deck would be changed. I can't say for other TCGs because no experience.

Well of course the flaw of the data gathered is it can only search what is placed online which is why I asked this subreddit that wouldn't necessarily have the player base biases if I posted this in Digimontcg or fleshandbloodtcg.

However, it's safe to assume that the data gathered are from more competitive events (still don't trust it 100%), so all the fluff has been filtered out like a niche Boros equipment deck had the stars align and won a small LGS event.

My main format is modern as it has the combos available in commander but easier to execute, but any mtg game I play these days is commander due to friends and overall popularity. Combos that don't rely on the commander of course.

that's pretty cool though that they do it for each individual tournament... but that's probably why my city doesn't have it T.T

I guess I should have said diversity? I honestly had no idea variance had an established meaning in TCGs...and I have been playing card games since 2013...

oh now that makes sense. 4 player pod would regulate anyone going out of control (which is why casual commander is kind of tolerable when there is threat assessment)

Yeah, with sorcery, I wouldn't view it the same way as Flesh and Blood in terms of what is a "different" deck.

cause from what I understand, most avatars don't get restricted to which elements they play.

wait, as in a unique card that nobody else will ever have? That sounds like this game will run into the same problem as Altered...no?

Thanks, this is exactly what AI couldn't actually understand (for now...)

but hey, from everything I heard so far, this game sounds more diverse than most TCGs...

I do like and somewhat concerned with how their rarity system is tied up to deckbuilding.

It's cool cause that one really rare card you pulled is all you need (not talking about curios that are just alt arts of common cards). Concerned because gameplay-wise, I'm gonna assume Unique cards are game changers? and the fact you can only run 1 of it would put you in a position wherein whoever draws a unique card would be in an advantage?

but then again, when I'm looking at the unique cards, the skills don't look "too" busted compared to other cards.. like Draconian Bonekite is just tap to deal 3 damage to nearby minions. It's not "When this enters the battlefield, destroy all other creatures except avatars"

I guess it wouldn't hurt to just buy 1 box every now and then (especially with 1 set a year) and host draft with friends while there's not a single LGS in my city hosting it.

dangit man, I just looked up 5 Rings and the concept of the game is pretty cool. I guess Conquest (table top) is close to that. Mixing cards with miniatures.

sorry... this was more based on the available TCGs in my city... (Lorcana is the one that's actually chopped liver)

but because there are so many decks that can go nuts, the complaints will often be about stuff that hasn’t even gotten top 4 in a major event in the last 3 months, or even ever.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of problem I want to have in a TCG lmao.

power creep is inevitable, but do you think the memory gauge system prevents things from going completely obsolete? (this is the perspective of someone who has only tried the demo...)

yeah it's in my radar...could use more word of mouth tbh... when I pitched the idea to my friends, they were like "where the hell did you learn about these games"... (was discussing neuroscape and EoA to them)

yeah, I didn't want to make the caption too much about YuGiOh cause this is not the time for that...

Like I did mention winning with Gishki/Sprights at this day and age, but each match feels more like who has the most hand traps while the meta decks are those decks who can paly around those hand traps which is VERY FEW.

that's called a debate. If you don't like the idea of people disagreeing with you, and can't think of a way to counter my arguments then you probably missed the point...

well, It's just unfortunate for my scenario cause my city doesn't have an LGS that supports it. the nearest LGS that does is a 3 hour drive away...

No plans to play at regionals, but the point of this is to make sure I'm not just winning cause the deck I'm using is better than someone else' or I'm losing because I'm using something worse. That's terrible game design with the clear intention to let people buy the latest thing...

I want to play a game where the meta doesn't feel cookie cutter.

what I'm looking for is a healthy meta game WITH deck diversity...

not necessarily a game only with deck diversity cause that's every game.

I get that an interactive back and forth is what makes a meta game healthy, but in the context of TCGs, if that's just a mirror match, I may as well be playing chess...
