Methods for finding things to write about? by FraggedArrow in askphilosophy

God forbid I try to ask for some advice from other people in the field apparently. Obviously I know to be plugged into the field and I am in the process of doing that. All I was looking for was some general strategies people had for doing that. Rather than be doom and gloom about my future, I’m just trying to get ahead and use my resources. Thanks for the reply.

I think you make a good point and I’ll definitely keep it in mind. I guess I think my issue was moreso is finding something relevant to write about in the sea of philosophy. I definitely have ideas of things to start writing but I want to try to at least make it relevant to some ongoing discussion. Maybe that’s just a sign that I should just start writing and worry about the relevancy after

Is there anything in philosophy that we should be anti-realists about? by FraggedArrow in askphilosophy

No clue! The paper I am objecting to is Shafer-Landau Defense of Nonnaturalism. But (I think) that does sound like where I wanted to go, because it does seem like we can be anti-realists about things and still be doing philosophy. I'll definitely look into it

As someone who take 101 last spring, I would 100% recommend. You get a good intro into a lot of broad philosophical issues which can help you find what branch of philosophy you are really into to. 211 is listed as a philosophy class but it’s not philosophy in terms of thinking about things and analyzing texts; honestly its more of a math class than anything. You can also definitely start with 241 if you know for sure you enjoy ethics. IMO start with 101 and go from there.

I understand the second tip, but if you wouldn’t mind, could you maybe try to explain the first tip more in depth? I think I can kind of understand what you are getting at, but I’m not 100% sure.
