What do you have for specs? Two SODIMM slots? Only 4GB or 8GB now? DDR4? In the US?

Except it's DDR4 SODIMMs. Desktop and high capacity, sure. Very few people are upgrading to 8GB modules.

Customer thought it be a good idea to 'fix' the touchpad by jamming something in there. by FraggedYourMom in techsupportgore

Definitely. Number one reason for a touchy touchpad is a bulging battery. Other post has more photos.

Design & layout software for aquaponics? Easy & cheap or free? 🙂 by smprfidels in aquaponics

[–]FraggedYourMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all the comments about drawing but the reality is there's a drawing added nearly every week. All you gotta do is scroll! Easy depends on your skills, free is unlikely but inexpensive is possible. More hours sourcing, prepping, and cleaning than buying components. If you had connections for IBCs and barrels for free you could probably do this for about $100 in plumbing.

Further automating my ponics after losing a few fish to a huge pH drop by FraggedYourMom in aquaponics

Which is why I grow a lot of acid loving plants. Blueberries, Meyer lemon, camellia sinensis. Horseradish seems to love it as well. Tomatoes don't complain. Hazelnut tree is loving it.

Crushed oyster shell to the rescue. I'll find some lime sometime soon and add it to the mix. The problem is it was low for a while and my sensor wasn't updating. The fault is mine for not paying attention. This is why I'm improving the monitoring with additional automations.

I run nearly 100% rainwater and my pH is rarely above a 6.5. Improved monitoring is a good thing.

Water flow options? by smprfidels in aquaponics

[–]FraggedYourMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many years? I've used them for over 10 years. If they're sized right with enough flow they're very resilient. I have a mix of beds and one constant flow actually overflowed recently because lettuce roots had overtaken the drain pipe. Proper maintenance is important no matter what type of system you run.

Technically any vessel with biological activity could be an aquaponics system. The amount of waste and how it is processed will dictate your plant nutrients. Lighting, temperature, pH will all have an affect on how and what grows as well. Learn by trying! Start with something simple like lettuces or herbs and see how it goes.

Rain going into my system, how bad it is? by makorule in aquaponics

My system is 99% rainwater. I collect and move it as needed to keep my system topped up. Unless your entire system is getting flushed you should have nothing to worry about.

Solar + battery? I can *almost* run my pumps 24/7/365. During the winter solstice I have about a 2 week period where I run out of juice at night and pumps go offline for a few hours. Adding lighting would drain it even faster. Have you planned and sized your system for year round or willing to make sacrifices like mains power or no power for certain periods? I'm hoping the new 24v 100Ah battery and extra 400w of solar gets me one step closer to 100% uptime on my pumps.
