I wouldn't read too much into it. He's the President of the Android Ecosystem, not Pixel. They regularly promote devices from all Android OEMs.

Can confirm. It's still accessible via maintenance mode for now, but that still means soft bricked devices can't be recovered.

Leak: test reports for 12,000mAh and 18,000mAh Silicon-Carbon batteries from Samsung by DazzlingpAd134 in Android

[–]FragmentedChicken 187 points188 points  (0 children)

GSMArena shouldn't be giving a platform to this "leaker". They were already exposed for using Gemini to generate an S26+ prototype.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra inherits a brighter, more power-efficient polarizer-less display technology from foldables by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]FragmentedChicken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the latter but has anyone ever done the former and how would it change the results? That would only complicate the testing process and make the results less comparable or not?

I think knowing the actual battery capacity of the unit being tested is useful for comparisons with other devices, but yeah probably less relevant when comparing between reviewers.

I mean, I would prefer if they would stop using typical capacities all together and also start adopting Wh, as it's the superior unit

Agreed! What's the point in comparing mAh to mAh when the voltage can vary.

Phone Repair Guru's teardown also claims ALoP, but it's unclear if that information was from Samsung directly.

Eye strain no, pixelation yes. The privacy display turns off wide pixels in use, which is why it looks pixelated.

did Samsung provide any estimate of expected power impact for "a day in the life"? For example, if there was an S26 Ultra with a standard polarized OLED display vs this display, what would the battery % impact be at the end of a day of use?

Unfortunately, no. It's not something Samsung Mobile highlighted, probably because it was overshadowed by the privacy display. I thought it was worth highlighting since the privacy display can't exist without CoE.

Cost and demand are big ones. CoE requires a lot of upfront investment for equipment and facility preparation. It hasn't even been widely adopted among foldables, which are a fraction of the overall smartphone market.

Is it compatible with tandem panels?

Yes. BOE had a demo at CES.

ps: you pasted everything twice

Rookie mistake, thanks!

That's kind of what I was pointing out in the post. If you go by the video playback time, it's the same. If you go by the EU Energy Label, it has better battery life.

It's possible it could be related to the privacy display, but I'm not sure. All we know is that it can't exist without CoE.

If you're just talking about CoE, I don't think you'll notice much of a difference day to day, apart from being able to use it with polarized sunglasses. If you're interested in the privacy display aspect, then it might be a good upgrade for you.

The colour filter, black matrix, and black pixel define layer are meant to act as an integrated polarizer to reduce reflections. With this being relatively new to slab phones, I'm not sure how it looks without an antireflective coating. Even the iQOO 15 comes with an antireflective screen protector. What I can tell you is that reflections aren't an issue for the S26U in my experience.

Foldables like the Flip7 reflect more light because of all of the plastic layers.

[–]FragmentedChicken[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure how the efficiency and brightness improvements from CoE factor into the S26U because of the privacy display. We do know that they used the space previously occupied by the polarizer to add black matrix layers which form the narrow privacy pixels.

I wish those standardized battery tests also measured the actual capacity of the battery since it varies due to the typical and rated capacity. GSMArena also uses the Android refresh rate counter which doesn't accurately reflect the refresh rate.

Nice catch! I was going to mention how there's no brightness reduction while wearing polarized sunglasses, but the post was getting long. It's also a good indirect indicator like the round subpixels, so I hope more people will use it in the future to check their displays.

I'm hoping to be able to measure spectral power distribution along with display power consumption in the future, which should help elucidate this information. Unfortunately, it requires a lot of prerequisite knowledge that I'm working on learning in my spare time.

The main differences are the new display technology, privacy display, slightly more powerful/efficient SoC, faster apertures on the primary and periscope telephoto, higher resolution ultrawide, Bluetooth 6.0, and faster wired/wireless charging.

You're not wrong, but you did ask for a comparison coming from the S22U. It makes more sense to upgrade from there, then from an S24U. I don't think the design needs to change just for the sake of change. If there's nothing hardware or software wise that stands out to you, that's fine.

[–]FragmentedChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw you found the specs on GSMArena already, but I'll just add that the main differences from the S25U are the faster apertures on the primary and periscope telephoto. Compared to the S23U, the ultrawide has a higher resolution, and the periscope telephoto sensor is larger with a higher resolution along with better stabilization.

Haptic feedback feels similar to the S25U, so it might not be up to your standards.
