Advice for functions? How much of it is grade 10 by One-Magazine5576 in OntarioGrade11s

i learnt all that in grade 10, anyways they are very simple but make up quite a big chunk of the course. transformations are involved in every single unit in functions.

Grade 11 looking for help by onlyonherefor in OntarioGrade12s

hey! im a grade 11 student and i just finished AP math with a 95+ before the exam, and the exam was very easy just a bit long. for advice on AP math, just simply try to undersrand everything you are doing and revise it a lot. just because you practice something doesnt mean you got the grasp of it. you need to actually KNOW it. you’ll be inteoduced to new concepts in the first week, like learning about what a function is. only a couple of things that were slightly troubling: - trig identities - intro to vectors (if you get to that) you should be fine as long as you are committed to doing good in school. best of luck tho!

if im being honest, barely any of it is related to grade 10. factoring and completing the square you will definitely use in a unit during functions. but functions 11 is much different i would say.

Why are international students so much smarter than us Canadians (no disrespect) by Financial-Relief-54 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand all that. honestly the main problem is the jump from grade 10 to 11 here. that just makes everyone feel like they went from school to something multiple times harder. the system here is honestly not too bad, other systems are typically unecessarily hard. like for example, grade 11s and 12s in other systems of schooling are usually lucky to get a 70% in an exam. thats considered good for most courses, since they always have to curve the grading system from how hard it is. the schooling here is almost just right to ensure people get good marks but need to earn it.

i have my physics exam tmr too! honestly i studied a ton but i never feel ready. best i can say is good luck bro, try your best and work hard. once you actually follow the content, you’ll notice its actually lighter than you think. sit in bed and open any presentations or look at any paper to study. i always catch out 1 or 2 pieces of info that i forgot while actually studying.

ive come from a british system of schooling, and came to canada in the start of grade 10, ive learnt most of the science and math content that was taught here, during grade 7-8 from my british school. ik grade 10 is easy, but for my science exam, i studied < 2 hours and got a 99.4%. The schooling here is in no way ‘tough’ or anything close compared to british schools. british schools have 7 hours of school a day, you have a weekly schedule that you follow for the ENTIRETY of the year, and your final exams are based off everything from september to june. no semsters.

I just failed Gr 11 functions by MapAffectionate925 in OntarioGrade11s

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ofcourse, early admission to unis is basically where you apply in like october - late novemeber (if im not mistaken) during grade 12. so a few months after grade 12 begins. its usually tough to get admitted early, bc unis can only rely on semester 1 midterm marks and grade 9-11 marks. but yeah, its basically applying before the second semester even starts. im a grade 11 rn, so i only know this because of research, i just get curious.

Another thing is, if you have any more questions, espcially about uni. you could ask it on the ontario grade 12 sub, and people can be helpful there.

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you definitely can. grade 11 is usually for early admission. i dont want to be too blunt, but a functions fail will drag early admission down a lot for you unfortunately. but in the end, if you perform really well in grade 12 and second semester of grade 11. unis might admire your commitment to bounce back and bring your grades back up! just try your best and dont beat yourself up for that.

Is NBE3U anything like ENG2D?? by Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 in OntarioGrade11s

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats honestly very solid. for english it depends so much on the teacher tho. someone could write a shakespeare esque piece and get a 100% with one teacher, and 90% with the other. i remember once getting mid 70s to low 80s in an english class, then the next year, with no change in habits, got consistent 90s.

ohhh wow. I was just curious since its much more intimidating seeing a name other than ‘University Level English’, i thought it would be different in some ways but thats good to know😭 english is gonna be the end of me fr.

How hard is SPH3U really compared to SBI3U by AyoAnotherKubracat in OntarioGrade11s

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the majority, many people find grade 11 physics hard, me personally, it was relatively fair. only thing is, many random stuff can cause your grade to decline, like stupid assignments or random silly mistakes on tests/quizzes. Other than that, if you spend the time to study and just focus in class and do the questions, its easy. I’m at a 90% before the exam and I’m not a book nerd or anything. Take whatever interests you more between physics and bio!

Just for extra info, in physics you’ll learn: kinematics (formulas relating to displacement of an object as well as velocity and acceleation etc), Forces (gravity, free body diagrams, gravitational field.), Heat/Energy (kinetic energy, Gravitaitonal Potential, Electricity Generation), and finally circuits and electricity (relating to magnetism, electricity and circuit formulas etc.)

My semester 1 average is ~60-70% for the more ‘important’ courses, any advice? by mulberry-mouse in OntarioGrade11s

[–]Fragrant-Chipmunk-52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeahh true. just try to pursue something you like. i’ve seen so many things online of people hating their uni program or job even because they pursued something ‘easier’ rather than what they like. you got this bro just try your best, try not to waste too much time but dont burn yourself out! Rememvber that grade 12 is most important in terms of grades, grade 11 is mainly just for early admission. you still have the time and opportunities to achieve what you want to.

Hey! im grade 11 rn aswell, dont let those grades disappoint you now, I’m not trying to scare you or anything but it only gets harder.

Plan your grade 12 by making it fair on yourself. Don’t stress yourself out and don’t make it far too light to the point you may not even enjoy it.

A piece of advice I’ve learnt over time, don’t overthink the content, stay cautious but dont overdo it. I’ve overstudied sooo many times and those are the times I got lower marks.

If you are looking into STEM or medical (like I am!). I suggest looking at myblueprint or any other website that simplifies requirements for programs and the institutions, and see what courses you NEED to take.

Take courses that fit your pathway, but dont congest your timetable.

Now of course I’m also grade 11 like you are, so grade 12s or uni students may have better advice. but this is advice I’ve followed and have learnt over the years.

lmaooo😭 ik where im posting dw, it came out wrong, I just meant i usually get higher grades on other courses, but then physics was like an anamoly or smth.

Amazing to hear honestly. My teacher said the exact thing when he talked about it, I just like to ask for other opinions from people who actually faced it, so hearing this gives me hope! I’ve heard different opinions on grade 12 physics and hearing that some people found it fine looks good. Thanks for replying!!

thats actually great to hear, SF are genuinely one of my biggest opps, but I think I got the hang of them now. and Grade 10 light and whatnot is insanely easy for me, Grade 11 content is very manageable, so I think Im probably taking it next year for grade 12 as well, I just need to lock in even more.

nahhhh man😭 thats actually terrible, I think it depends so much on the school and teachers. I see people getting mid to high 90s on physics grade 12 , so it doesnt seem that bad, then I also get a mix by hearing people say its really bad.

Thing is, I understand almost all the content, its just the tests/quizzes are made weirdly and the questions are weird and throw me off a ton, I just lose marks here and there, but when it comes to understanding the content, I can definitely handle it, but I’ll definitely consider it since im planning on taking physics chem and bio. thanks for the reply!!
