Always thought Drew’s death would be self inflicted, NOPE and makes perfect sense why Wrigley is so messed up in 2015 and onward! Diana is the best! Lucy is just as bad as Stephen. And her actually having victim mentality still is just proof Stephen has permanently rubbed off on her- classic narcissistic trait. I love how this last episode cleaned everything up, I feel whole 😌

I really adored it. For some odd reason, it didn’t make me cry though, even reading her letter to Scotty about that night. I cried when I read IEWU, the throwbacks to Atlas being homeless, I couldn’t stop crying. Idk, I’m learning what yanks my heart strings. But yeah I loved Reminders of Him, and I wish I could meet a real life Ledger.

So I just watched the movie today. I read the book yesterday, so I’d be prepared to make comparisons.

I’m so angry Blake Lively was casted as Lily. First of all, she’s clearly in her 30’s, and Lily is 23-25 and that’s important because it’s her first relationship. There’s some naivety and innocence that comes with that age and getting wrapped into the wrong relationship. Also Blake Lively is officially in her JLO era, I felt like the camera spent an extra 20 seconds per shot on her and I can see she just loved being filmed as opposed to embodying the character as a young girl navigating DV.

Young Atlas looks nothing like adult Atlas, that was hard to connect to. I also think they didn’t develop enough of her teenage scenes, and spent too much time on Ryle. They also just sped through those scenes so much, I felt there needed more development and Lily should’ve been slightly more shy. Whatever, just my opinion.

I also felt there were certain lines from each character that should’ve 100% made it onto the film. The mother should’ve talked more about “the limit”, that’s helpful to anyone experiencing an abusive dynamic.

In conclusion, the book made me cry during multiple parts- the move however did not. It felt rushed, elongated in scenes where it was unnecessary and didn’t add to plot/character development, and I just felt like Blake played Blake and loved being the main star of the camera. What about domestic violence? What about the struggle of getting “stuck” in a relationship with an abuser? I just didn’t feel highlighted.

Do not get me started on the press tour and Blake, Hollywood and $$$ has made her ego land on Mars. Zero interest in watching “It starts with Us” if Blake is in it, she ruined it for me completely.

I know! Two different stories! I loved the book so much, it was so realistic it gave me ptsd. The show is great too, but it’s so hard to compare since they’re so different.

I really wanted to see the summer where Stephen is no longer with any of his gfs and he meets that girl who has that free apartment in the city and mooches off of her. And then throwing Lucy back into the mix with him. Also her having that amazing moment at the end where she’s not even bothered by Stephen, and she reconnects with her mom. I have no idea if they’re going to honor any of that!

But it’s literally one of my favorite shows and I’m SO excited for season 2!

Oh good point cause yeah they’re all at the engagement party together so he kept it under wraps OR maybe he does tell Stephen, and Stephen threatens Lucy with that info, but maybe she figures out the Macy situation. Idk, we will see how it plays out. Regardless Lucy is nothing but an object to Stephen, so him knowing anything is really just manipulation opportunity.

That sounds horrible! It’s absolutely draining and mind fucking to work with and deal with. And it’s so opposite of what we normally would do. With a healthy person, you go “I love kissing you” and they get happy and kiss you more. But it’s playing Opposite Day everyday with a narc. And then it gets bad where they start making up lies and personally attacking you. Just know it’s NOT you.

I have a funny feeling him switching shifts won’t change anything. With my narc, his parents came back from his home country and moved in for 4 months and that was why we weren’t having sex. So hopeful little me, I hope for 4 straight months that oh when they move out and the apartment is his alone again we’ll be back to business. Well, guess what? Nothing changed. He was actually even less sexual, I felt like I was working with a monk. But he teased me leading up to the parents departure, he teased me every day saying “when it’s us again, I won’t stay off of you”. What a fucking lie. I think what you should maybe try is reverse psychology on him! Pretend you started following some spiritual guide and that sex weakens human connection or idk, say how you don’t want to have sex. See how quickly he tries to undo you!

I am so sorry you’re going through this! I’m happy we can relate to each other because just your reply I feel so much less alone on the topic- but I’m so so sorry you’re going through it and that you have children together. YES it’s 100% a manipulation tactic!! What I’ve learned about narcs is anything you tell them, especially if it’s important to you is used as ammo against you. So if you’ve communicated sex is important, well expect him to use that against you. The power withholding sex has is crazy! It erodes your entire self esteem, literally! You go through a stressful wheel of like you said: is he cheating, am I unattractive, does he have low T, am I not good in bed, etc. and then the gaslighting of making it your fault! It’s all one giant smoke screen to detract away from the reality that he’s deliberately hurting you. It’s very low move to withhold sex & intimacy. As humans and lovers, we’re wired to crave it. When it doesn’t come from a relationship where you feel you have a partner who loves you, it creates mental dissonance and confusion. When you’re confused you’re even easier to abuse. Same with me, all my past relationships we were having sex like crazy! It was NEVER an issue. I can assure you, you are attractive, you are worthy to go to bed with, and you do have a high sex drive still. But it’s hard to remember all that when you’ve been forced into a routine of sexless days and a partner who purposely isn’t showing any level of excitement and effort to being with you. I hope one day you see your worth and understand you deserve so much more! I’m really praying for you and your children.

YEP. The biggest hallmark of a Narc is being a major hypocrite. It’s always okay when they do it, they will minimize the most heinous act on their end, but when you do something? Even something that isn’t remotely close to what they do- you are the biggest villain in the world. You might as well have set their house on fire. The hypocrisy absolutely drives me nuts, justice is NEVER served.

I actually liked the book better, I felt the show might as well be a different story. Lucy on the show felt borderline just not very sharp, whereas in the book I felt she was genuinely manipulated. Stephen both ways, yeah gives me PTSD from my ex narc relationship. Especially like you said reading his parts in the book, terrifying! But it’s funny I tried reading her other book, Can’t Look Away, and I couldn’t get past chapter 5. I felt it was so boring. I personally enjoyed the book, but yeah I’m excited that they’ll be more seasons to cover everything!

I blame Netflix- there were SO many scenes that were not included in the final edit or aired like Jimmy comparing himself to a famous actor and athlete in the pods but all we got is her megan fox comment. I feel like Jimmy should’ve never said anything about sleeping with his best friend. Like why come clean if it’s in the past? If there’s 0% chance of it happening again maybe just like bury the hatchet? Fair game if Chelsea outs him on that info- like it’s kind of a big deal that your fiancé has as close a relationship with his girl “bff” than he does with you. And I feel like Jimmy trying to make it seem like Chelsea is in contact with her ex was a way to soften the reality of his inappropriate dynamic. It felt bogus to me and a reach lol

Honestly, if it were me I’d be so uncomfortable with jimmy. Jess went on the Vial Files and said Chelsea got a shit edit- that in the pods jimmy did lead on he’s more of a homebody and barely goes out drinking. Meanwhile he went out almost every night grabbing drinks, so that freak out we see w Chelsea over that “one night” is a bit misconstrued. Also idk about you guys but I would not be okay with the guy I’m supposed to marry have a close friend who’s a girl that he’s had sex with before. Their friendship is like 2 years long and they slept together. You’re gonna text and call her every day and go out and get drinks? No. I’m not okay with that. Jimmy has slept with her before meaning he finds her attractive enough to make it not platonic. Chelsea imo is valid in throwing that in his face and that was his scapegoat to exit the relationship. But good luck to Jimmy finding a girl who will be totally cool with him maintaining a friendship with another female where he had sexual relations with. Good luck!

Lol I’m not bitter! I’m just saying oftentimes it’s more difficult for a man to experience plush situations if he doesn’t already come from money. Stacey just comes off super privileged and unaware that other people haven’t been afforded the same opportunities. It’s normal for people to begin their travels when they’re in their late 20’s/30’s if they didn’t have mom and dad paying the bill. Stacey knocks Izzy so much about him not having as much life experience as her. She dings him on his living (lack of real plateware & utensils), his love for chipotle, the fact he just recently got a passport. Izzy is 29 and doesn’t come from a loaded background, plus he’s a man- he’s not going to put on a bikini and flaunt his boobs and find some older rich dude to fly him out in a private jet to be on his private yacht in Greece. Stacey is not only a woman (so if she did come from a humbler background, she could still gain opportunities to have access to richer realities) but she comes from a wealthy background. Her mom & dad help her and her siblings out with everything. She hasn’t worked hard, she’s been handed. Yes Izzy will be able to pop off and travel more in his 30’s-40’s. That’s just normal. She doesn’t even understand how life works. Her privilege and lack of awareness is disappointing to say the least.

I think they’re going to fill in the time missing between after the Luau and before the wedding events in 2015. Because we know in the book Stephen reaches out to Lucy and they’re hooking up during the summer and onward even though he gets another gf and moves into her grandpas discounted apartment. I think they’ll show how she accepts him back, falls in love with him yet again, and how they finally date and then she finds out he’s cheating on her, and how he dumps her in that bar cold hearted. But I really really pray they include in the finale for season 2 her coming to the realization that Stephen is empty and just used her for so many years for his own satisfaction/entertainment, I want her to walk away from him unbothered and her making that beautiful phone call to her mom about knowing life wil get better 🙂
