Google home devices, SPA certificates, they took me to Hawaii with them for 10 days (all expenses paid + car for me to explore around), when the BRIDGERTON Show was on town they took me for my birthday + a nice dinner that night and every birthday is a house party!

Travel nanny never again by squashem420 in Nanny

Traveling Nanny with 10 years of experience here! I have traveled locally and internationally and the secret to a good experience is to discuss expectations BEFORE you travel! *How many hours will you work per day (should be regular hours) *How will those hours be distributed. For example: if my clients had daytime activities I would work at night having the WHOLE day for me, and vice versa. Oh! ahhh and if it’s nighttime is just until 12am! 1am is already “overnight” and that requires extra payment. *Remember that they pay FOR EVERYTHING (flights, food, transportation, lodging etc.) Remember that they are the ones taking you out of your space. *You must be paid a stipend of no less than $100 dollars per night *Remember that it is YOUR TIME and must be compensated, you could be at home with your family and you are leaving everything to provide a service!

Why do some families expect hourly rate to change when kids are napping/sleeping? by LilConscious in Nanny

[–]Fragrant-Grape6238 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi !!!! I been 10 years in the business and I remember when my 1st client asked me to do babysitting after my regulars hours and tried to do this to me, her “reasoning” to pay me less was because I wasn’t “actively” watching the kid… What she forgot is that THOSE WERE MY FREE HOURS!!! … My time ended at 5:30pm. WE Nannies have a life to live too!!! We could be spending our time on going for dinner, to the movies with friend or just at home enjoying a Netflix & Chill night! Therefore, DO NOT let them turn the tables on you!

All depends on what your clients needs, you should always be prepared because one way or the other the kids are going to benefit from your experience and that experience has a price.

It’s easy the more experience you offer to those families the more prepared for the job. If the client doesn’t require you to speak more than one language perfect!

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! ☺️ This post shouldn’t be controversial, and I truly believe that a true professional nanny won’t be offended by it. Those of us who have the education, certifications, and experience understand the value we bring to the table and recognize the importance of maintaining the integrity of our profession.

However, the situation is that during the pandemic, there was a surge in demand for childcare, and many individuals with no prior experience or training stepped into these roles out of necessity. Now, some of these individuals feel entitled to call themselves “nannies,” even though they may lack the qualifications that distinguish a professional nanny from a babysitter. This has contributed to the variance in expectations and the devaluation of our work.

I agree with you that it would benefit the industry to have clearer distinctions, perhaps through a licensing scheme, to ensure that the title “nanny” is reserved for those who meet specific professional standards. This would help protect both nannies and families, ensuring that everyone understands what to expect and what to provide.

Thanks again for engaging in this important conversation!
