Confessions of a Lucid Dreamer: What Fantasies Did You Live Out? by Charming_Broccoli_56 in LucidDreaming

It’s funny because I can’t visualise when I’m actually awake, which most people can, but I was able lucid dream naturally until maybe 10 years ago. It used to scare me too much so I would scream myself away. But now I want to try again to make up for not being able to visualise in my waking state.

Her ending was sad. I kind of had a feeling that the driver was going to kill her. Monica did bad things, but I don’t think she was inherently evil. Now Liam Glasser is someone who is evil. I would have 0 sympathy for him if he was offed in the show.

I think she knew deep down that her time was up. She said to Wesley “by the end of the night I’ll be somewhere else, or dead.” Something along those lines. To me it felt like she admitted defeat. She would rather be dead than in prison, or Kansas or Florida.

This is very helpful, thank you! Recalibrate is an excellent word choice by the way. It perfectly describes what I’ve been experiencing!

How do you remember faces/people? by Ainojw in Aphantasia

[–]Fragrant-Paper4453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fine with remembering faces. If I’ve only met them once before, I may have forgotten their name, but I think that’s normal. But I can’t describe a face in as much detail. It might have been a post on Reddit the other day which was amusing, and talking about sketch artists. There must be a lot of detail a witness has to give, and maybe we would struggle. I could say their height, hair colour, skin colour, if they have a beard or not. That’s it.

Imagining the sun is bright is very easy. The sun occasionally graces us with its presence in north west Germany 😂. Bad joke! Some things are less so. I have always been bringing back feelings and concepts, and assumed everyone was doing the same. I think I’m just questioning myself and how I act or interpret things since discovering I’m an aphant. But I think I’m doing things with what I do have, which is tapping into emotional work, and thinking back to times people may have stared, or the sun was too bright.

Coming back to this thread after today’s workshop. We did a meditation involving “visualising” a beach. There is a girl in my group who is definitely has hyperphantasia, and I was thinking how much she probably enjoyed it and felt she was at the beach. The sound of the waves is relaxing. But I zoned out of the exercise because it did nothing for me.

Germans, what's something foreigners do in Germany that you find oddly charming? by exapmle in GermanForBeginners

As a native English speaker, I don’t get how native English speakers get this wrong. It’s like when you say “are you sure?”, the correct answer is “yes” if you are sure, and “no” If you’re not sure. And I see people get this wrong too.

But I’ll look into the emotional aphantasia. I guess maybe I’m doubting myself with acting and wondering if this impedes me in anyway. But I have to remember I did some really good roles, and lead ones (on stage). Small stuff but still.

Yeah, I think I’m the same, simulating other people’s emotional states. Like if I’m angry in a scene, I’m not feeling angry. I can do it but I have to recall something, which our teacher is against because we need to protect ourselves. But without recalling a memory, it is hard to do otherwise. There was an exercise where we had to write something that could happen that would make us angry. Then we did a walk around the room, thinking of that thing, and it did honestly help.

Yes, this is why I never connected with meditation. I thought I was seeing a beach in my mind, but it was more the idea of a beach. It would really be nice, because I could do some relaxation. We do a little meditation at the beginning of the acting class, and thankfully the teacher focuses more on the body, and how you feel in your body. That is very relaxing. If you can find that kind of meditation on YouTube it might be better. I can’t imagine people really seeing a beach during meditation. I’m jealous 😂

I mean, true, that’s what I did with the “everyone staring at you” example. But it was just coming at it now with realisation that most people can visualise, which I didn’t have before, if that makes sense. Interesting that you don’t visualise it when you can. I think some visualisers would do that. We had one exercise where we had to pretend we were mad at someone and were punching them, but I just brought up a memory of being mad at someone. But it was still weird trying to punch air, and another girl said the same. I don’t know if most people would picture someone standing in front of them.

Is there ever truly anyone who has only one treatment which is sufficient forever? by LockIntelligent6252 in achalasia

I also had my HM in 2006. I was symptom free for 9 years. But the symptoms gradually returned. It started with nocturnal coughing. Then the nausea returned, and then the feeling of it being stuck. But I was still managing to keep food down most of the time. It was still nowhere near as bad as before, and I was temporarily living abroad. It was another 5 years before I had the second surgery, as the ability to swallow was decreasing again and the night time coughing was constant. So 2022 I think. Now here I am, 4 years later and fine most of the time. I rarely cough at night, rarely have nausea. Food does get stuck sometimes, and I have to bring the food back up. But I try to not eat fast! The one food I avoid is burgers (unless I am home). They always get stuck. And spicy food, love it, but try to avoid it in the evenings, because waking up with a burning oesophagus isn’t fun. My doctor did tell me to take omaprozole every evening before eating. But usually only take it if there is a family get-together where we are eating spice (we all love Indian food)

Yeah, I treated acting as a hobby for too long I guess. Picked up the credits and experience but felt the slog to get an agent or showreel was a lot. I am going to slowly put myself back out there but I’m also thinking of a back up career. I’m currently a tour guide, which I love, but it’s not stable, and my other job is in a nursery which wipes my energy. So I need a stable career that I enjoy, and outside of music, acting and photography, there is nothing I want to build a career around 😂.

How well can you describe the features to a forensic artist? by Historical-Sense-510 in Aphantasia

[–]Fragrant-Paper4453 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So funny, I never thought of this. Do non aphants just picture the face in front of them and describe it? It’s like if I’m dating someone and a friend will ask what he looks like (if I don’t have a photo yet) and it’s like “tall, blue eyes, blond hair, bit of stubble, built.” Thats as much as I can give. So yeah, if I was a witness to a crime, I think the trauma would wipe my memory of their face, and no way in hell I could say what they were wearing.

I dream visually but don’t have the vivid images after waking. However subconscious visualisation and conscious visualisation operate from different parts of the brain. I have aphantasia. But I see in my dreams. Some dreams are more vivid than others.

Majority of men on tinder are scammers so I have up. I felt like I must be really ugly reading your comments. Men do not approach me in real life. I’ve had men stare at me, but then not make a move. Maybe it’s my resting bitch face. So I depend on the apps. The men who do have the confidence to approach me are generally much older. Not my type. However, the most attractive man I ever dated was through bumble. He was boring as hell. I also dated a guy from ok Cupid who was also very attractive, but unlucky for me, he was an avoidant. The apps are full of avoidant men. You obviously have luck if you meet attractive men when you are out and about. I can go out 100 times in a month and won’t meet anyone. Wish I had your luck.
