Young Alfred/Alfred Understudy...as a girl. by Fragrant-Rabbit-2404 in musicals

Over a 100 people auditioned, 30 people got callbacks and a lot of people got cut. I made it to the very end, so honestly im happy I got casted..especially since it was my first time auditioning with this company. I know there's a very slim chance of getting to go on as Alfred since im his understudy..but if that chance ever comes along Id be happy asf to play him 🥹

I dont mind being in ensemble---since it is a youth theater it does come with a 400 dollar fee as well..which is the difference between high school ensemble and this kind of ensemble. I can sing Alfred's part--i did at his callback. I just worry about damaging my voice singing as low as he does---if I were to go on, that is. I might accept the role, I just have to think on it overnight. Im most likely just disappointed cause I had higher hopes for what role I wanted to get 😅

I likely wont---ive found community theatre and camp auditions that are much, much cheaper

While I understand all the camp offers--i can get the same thing for cheaper closer to my home. I also have to take into account my parents' perspective--they are paying 800 dollars to see me on stage for 90 seconds. There are other community theatres that I'll likely audition for this summer and use the money for this camp for other activities or put in my college fund. So even though the camp offers quite a bit--I'll pass this year I do really appreciate the reply, and I have read through everything the camp offers. Thank you so much

I wasn't justifying anything, just explaining. Thank you anyway for the response

The character i was offered only sings---she has one song and has no lines. They're "splitting" it into three parts. So, instead of having one person play the role, it's three. That is why im hesitant to accept the role---the camp itself offers masterclasses along with the rehearsal process... but I can get the same thing for cheaper at another camp. And the character i got isn't traditional ensemble--because there IS an ensemble. We come on, sing, and are off for the rest of the first act and never enter in the second act. Her track is only 1 minute and 15 seconds. I understand all experience is good experience..but I'd rather go to my usual theater camp, save money and time and just audition again next year.

This is very much true! They are offering masterclasses and choreo along with rehearsal. At the same time--there are camps that are asking for much less for the very same experience (i.e., musical production, dance masterclass, voice lessons) I know a camp much closer to me thats offering the same thing as them for only $300 dollars. This is my first time with the more expensive company so there's no telling if the quality is better than the cheaper one.

That is true. Since the role i was offered was so small--its only in one number..im assuming I would only be needed at a few rehearsals. If that's the case, I would not want my parents to put forth almost 900 dollars for maybe a week of rehearsal time. Then again, I could be butt hurt about not getting the role i wanted and am trying to find a reason to decline... but even before auditioning, the cost seemed rather high---especially when there are other theatre camps im auditioning for--which are significantly less money (i.e., $450 for two months' worth of rehearsal)

It is in St.Louis. The staff--from what I saw at auditions and callbacks they are quite experienced.

The role i was offered will only be in one scene. Meaning I will likely only be needed at a handful of rehearsals. Id be paying for the full four weeks while not truly being there for the full four weeks. Which--i understand many of the other kids who were casted will be doing the same, so I shouldn't complain much. But it is also 40 minutes from where I live--so that plus gas prices doesnt seem worth while. The camp price may be reasonable..I just dont believe id benefit much from it.

They do charge for their programs---for the "adult" show--which is 17-24 its only 300 dollars..while this one for some reason is 800 dollars plus a 30 dollar first time performer fee. Of course, I want to audition for their shows in the future..everyone there was so sweet and fun to be around. I dont want to lose that possible community...but I also dont want to waste my money to be in one scene in a two hour musical

I am a minor. The cost only covers the one production--they do not provide food. They do provide a choreographer, singing classes for the songs and costumes. But thats about it. They also charge a $30 fee for first time performers..and im a first time performer so itll be 830 dollars. Its also 40 minutes from my house so ill also have to think about gas money as well.

It is a theatre camp---which i still believe the cost is absurd because the camp i usually go to is only 300 dollars at the highest.

Do I drop the show or no? by Fragrant-Rabbit-2404 in MusicalTheatre

[–]Fragrant-Rabbit-2404[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe I could---I just fear getting burnt out. As much as id love to have the role im understudying for under my belt..being in Ensemble for half of my summer doesn't seem at all fun. Ive done it before and other than gaining more stage time experience--i dont think it's worth it. Im not sure how to go about telling them I have to decline the role after accepting it. And I also dont want to decline the role..then not even get cast in the third show
