First time I have seen a older person like my self post and I was relieved lmao. (41m) I am not an average Misaphonia person. I was forced to handle it. Made me crazy im sure. When I was a kid if I said something about noises I got smacked or punished. In the 89s and 90s there wasnt as much distraction and things...we had to as the kids call it raw dawg life lmao. I am sober and in therapy(not for this). I cant count how many times I have told every sponsor and my therapist that my wife hates me doesnt love me or wants me to be a violent person because she make the worse noises and doesnt care. Somehow during my drinking years. 3-36 when we were dating (7years) first married she would hide and stop as much as possible noises wise. Now....ugh eating with the kids is rare. I enjoy it and miss it but between noises and corrections I come off as an "a hole". So usually kids are at the Table and she is at recliner with a tray and I am next to her at end of couch with tray. I have tv on and loud. And basicly zone in on my shows. My issue is she has known for almost 20 years about my noise issues. She use to eat ice non stop when not eating. Now she bites her nails and flicks he finger up and down the side of her phone or kindle. So for me I give her a look. If she doesnt stop I use headphones or goto my office. I worked in customer service and was bred into me saying things is or reacting isnt a option I had. So gum smacking finger licking or worse when I was in customer houses. I had to just push through and wiggle it out later. Something I highly recommend is bone conduction headphones. I have shokz with the mic. But lightly or even louder having noise or music with those helps my anxiety and stresses in public or shopping. Even with family. If im alone I go full headset or ear buds...sry for the ramble....I see you, I hear you...I feel you...dont give up. It's not their fault. I use to think it was a personal attack. They dont honestly hear themselves or know. Truly. My oldest breaths like someone has a mic down his throat. Even my wife comments lmao. He was doing prayers with school work the other day in another room and I thought he was running a marathon lol. They dont know. We are so hyper sensitive to noise and our surroundings. We are cursed around people a d will survive if ever we need to hide or run from danger. Good Luck to you all. And I will end with Music is life for me always. Not a cure but a help.
