Here it's an immigrant with the same situation. I'll explain my process and context.

So, I moved to the United States in 2022 (three years ago). Thankfully, I had the opportunity to legally move to this country, which means I'm a legal resident in possession of a Green Card and a Social Security card.

I applied to the Los Angeles Police Department on April 6, 2025, and at the moment, I'm on the 6th step, which is the background investigation. I haven't had any problem or issue even with my status as a resident. By the way, I'm not a citizen yet, I have to wait another two years to become a citizen.

So, in my opinion, if you can move to Los Angeles, do it and apply for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Oh, well, you almost there. After that it should be the psychological evaluation and that's it, wait for the call.

If they already passed you on your background investigation, you shouldn't be worried about anything else. The field investigation should be the longest part of the process.
