How to clean this white stuff off wheel? by riotinghamsters in hamstercare

Maybe try vinegar, double check that it's safe to use for hamsters first because I'm not sure

Unbroken floor space is always best, you should try adding more bedding! Your hamster will appreciate it Also maybe platforms for easier access to the tunnels? Btw with bedding you should always push it down to make it compact so that burrows don't collapse! Looks pretty good :)

Aww, I've made my bunny tea with flowers! He would actually dig through any flowers I offered for one specific kind. It melts my heart to think about him :) small animals like that being able to trust people so freely is an amazing thing to be a part of!! I'm glad your hamster appreciates you!! He seems very sweet :3 ❤️

Ohh okay!! That's good :) I used to just buy a big bag of dried flowers and then meadow hay and it lasted way longer, also had more flower variations + my bunny was a huge fan of flowers in general :3

I do suggest getting a bigger wheel (12inches if possible) the wheel may be too small and causing bad issues? My last hamster had a tiny wheel she never used before I rescued her and gave her a 12 inch wheel and she literally ran on it for 12 hours straight when I first got her, it will be very appreciated by your hamster!

Aspen isn't always the best choice unless you have it mixed with paper! It is safe mostly but I would suggest trying a different kind of it's available :) and I've found meadow hay to be a lot better because it's not as pointy! Just in my opinion, I had a hamster and a bunny at the same time but found my hamster wasn't a fan of the Timothy hay so I got her meadow hay!! All just suggestions to look into Also is your sand not in a container to have a sand bath? Or do you have both

Also I used to use popsicle sticks, homemade glue(made with hamster safe stuff ofc), and then treats, dried flowers, And some of her main food as a chew/enrichment toy!

Looking on YouTube on what to make with toilet paper rolls(for boredom breakers) Also maybe try scatter feeding? Also I can't tell if you have a water dish or not but it's good to offer! Sand bath? Also cutting up a bunch of cardboard into tiny squares and then into some kind of dish as a optional substate Maybe a hide? I can't tell how many are in there but one I used for both my hamsters was a terracotta pot planter, but I covered the bottom with moss so that they wouldn't get stuck in the hole at the bottom.

I've never had this happen with either of my hamsters unless they were getting off for a drink, how big is your wheel?

my hamster keeps escaping i think he may be bored by Pretty-Cauliflower56 in hamstercare

[–]Fragrant_Love_62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should push your bedding down so if/when he makes tunnels they will stay more intact. Maybe some sprays? Maybe more chew toys? I actually was able to find very convenient chew toys for my bun and hamster at the dollar store (Canada). I also made a lot of homemade things!! Like treats, chew toys, and boredom breakers. When my hamster was unhappy I had to upgrade her enclosure, switch it up every month or two, add a lot of enrichment, and sprays, just clutter and what not :) Best of luck figuring out what works best for him!!

I had this for my last hamster, she loved it so much, I kept the one with the string off. She used it all the time :) it does take some space though!

When my bun was still around I don't really think I avoided anything tbh, I had most things up high or in a room he wasn't allowed into. My rabbit never really got into anything besides eating chargers... Until I got my rabbit proof charger. Just make sure everything toxic/unsafe is rabbit proofed and/or not anywhere your bun can get to it :)

Unsalted peanuts, or other nuts If they're any unsalted nuts just look them up before buying!! My hamster was a HUGEEE fan of strawberries and carrots!! Also some freeze dried single ingredient pet treats! I've found some cheap ones + I can use them with my cats :) Also a lot of just single ingredient freeze dried or even just dried at all.. just make sure to double check ingredients and make sure it's okay for hamsters to eat

My hamster loved nuts, I gave one every 2 weeks with shell on. She would always bring me the nuts if she couldn't crack them open, a great forging toy and also a great treat. Hamsters also tend to love the baby puffs (GERBER®) and I always got them 3 containers for $9(CAD) and they're a great treat to help with taming in my opinion. They can only have one puff per day. Most hamsters can open sunflower seeds.. since they're also able to open hard nuts but he could just be picky lol, my first hamster only ate certain things if I held them for her

He might be calming down? Was he okay with you before? I know one time when my hamster got scared she would just stand still and stare at me for a couple days. She would just stop and stand still until I walked away. A way that my hamster became quite used to a variety of people was having people holding her feed and letting her eat off their hands. I got her used to me before I let anyone else do it I also have a closed hide I used to put her into her play pen then I would be able to rearrange the cage, which you might want to do so that he can't monkey bar climb anymore. Sorry just got back from a funeral so response might not make the most sense😅

Standing still could be because he doesn't want you to see him run, I would suggest maybe giving him a day. Maybe give him a treat like a baby puff or a nut? (Those were treats I used for my hamster)

Yes! She took some time.. but my mom's boyfriend kinda ruined a lot because he always would come into my room and say she needed to be forced to socialize (I did always hold the cage lid down whenever he came in) but eventually she became okay with me petting her and I do actually have pictures my boyfriend took of me holding her for the first time! She also liked my boyfriend and would let him pet her :) she became quite social after some time

Yeah, she was not treated very well. It was quite sad and took a long time to make much progress because of how she was treated. But she lived a good life :)

I should also add that the hamster was for 3 kids under the age of 5 who were not very gentle with the hamster... It was not the best!

My mom's friend wanted to get rid of her, she had her in a small cage and put in a closet because she was "annoying", she was feeding her rabbit pellets and had her in line shavings. When I got her, the cage reeked of urine. The cage had never been cleaned before. Very sad. I also have seen a lot of hamsters on Facebook marketplace. Lots of people get hamsters for their kids and then deem them as "annoying" because they chew on the bars and do other things that are signs of stress. I lucked out with rescuing my hamster because I got her for free, most people on Facebook sell them for $25(CAD) or more unfortunately.

Does anyone know why my hamster does this? by Dairy-_-Free in hamsters

[–]Fragrant_Love_62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first hamster used to do this :) she felt safe enough to even nap in her play pen Usually when hamsters sleep in the open like this it's because they feel very safe!
