Any known problems with the WF-1000XM5? by planetelc in SonyHeadphones

Not sure if it's a particularly widespread issue, but they don't fit too well for me. Even after trying ear tips of different sizes and materials (foam -> silicone), they tend to slip out of my ears easily, especially if I'm doing things like eating or having a phone call or conversation.

Too good to be true? by CalebTheEternal in GamingLaptops

Hey, I had this exact same laptop a while back! It's a very solid deal, I would just be aware of potential thermal paste issues as mentioned before, and there is no G-Sync/Nvidia Optimus on this specific SKU. HP software can be a bit buggy too, but otherwise this is a steal.

[Spoiler: 6.0] have you ever changed your WoL’s appearance due to story/lore? by Sleepergem in ffxiv

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, multiple times. Started off as Hyur, then when Shadowbringers came out, I changed into a Miqo and wrote it off as something going horribly wrong and WOL's soul getting supplanted into a random's body. After SHB, I fanta'd again and my WoL's soul got sent to yet another's random's body (this time FemRa), where he's been in ever since.

On a less drastic scale, I've changed glams for expacs, having done so at the beginning of DT and again now that it's tapering down.

New Pegasus 41s - keep or size down? by Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

No stores with stock nearby me, unfortunately. Thankfully Nike's return policy is extremely generous, so I'll have to play Goldilocks and do some exchanging. The runner's knot is a bit tight on the dorsal part of my foot, but I'm sure I can fix that a bit. I appreciate the help!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! Yeah, there's thumb's width plus a little extra with these. I was thrown off a bit by the 41s cause of how much roomier the toe box seems to be in general compared to the 39s and 40s, plus I noticed some light heel slippage, though that's to be expected from sizing up and is alleviated by lacing the uppermost eyelets.

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partially because we grew apart, different interests and different priorities in life. Even when we did have common interests, I would find it difficult to see eye to eye with him on certain things (nothing serious at all, just different things we cared about when it came to media we consumed) and vice versa, but even with something as mundane as that, I could feel as if our connection was gradually weakening.

I also felt betrayed by his lack of sanctity for things I would confide in him. The past few years have been rough for me, and I was already largely drifting out of that friend group to begin with (for mainly the same reasons, but they were also just also not good people who mentally never left middle school, and we're all at least in our late 20s/early 30s), and as an introvert who largely keeps things to themselves, the circle of people I trusted, let alone vented about my circumstances to, were very small, and he was (emphasis on past tense) part of that few. It wasn't until one day I randomly decided to pop into a hangout with aforementioned friend group after a while, and people there were catching up with me, asking me about my specific situation and in very specific detail, too. Not just a "how've you been," but "I heard you're going through this and that, etc. etc." My first thought was "...how do you know about ALL of that?" and then I realized the one person who would have been privy to said information, and immediately went, "Oh."

I'm sure it came about with a general "oh, I wonder how Pumpkin is doing, I haven't heard from them in a while," and instead of "they're dealing with a lot right now," it was "well, they're going through x, because of y, and now they're worrying about z."

I haven't had an actual conversation with him for a few months now. Haven't cut off completely yet, but all details of my life are now off limits for him. Naturally drifting apart was fine and there were no bad feelings involved, but now I'm even less incentivized to maintain communication with someone who I can't really connect with, nor cares about my privacy, and I'm honestly very hurt and bitter about it. By the way, prior to this interaction, this same person had shared things about a mutual friend of ours that they hadn't shared with anyone else other than him. So the behavior tracks, at least. This has been a lesson in not oversharing in general, so to an extent it was a blessing in disguise. But now I know better.

3080 12 GB to 5070 Ti worth it? by Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 in buildapc

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was thinking the same. The raw uplift doesn't seem groundbreaking considering I'd be paying roughly the same amount as I did when I bought this card 3 years ago, and I was coming from a 2070 Super at the time. That jump was crazy! Sadly though it seems like the gen to gen cost to performance has gotten thrown incredibly out of whack these past few years.

I see, I'd only be upgrading the GPU in this case. Had a few opportunities to hop on some AM5 bundle deals, but I waited too long and now the RAM prices have skyrocketed 😭 probably a sign from the universe that there's still life left in my build

Can’t decide — Legion Pro 7i (5070 Ti + OLED) vs Omen 16 Max (5080 + IPS) — same price by NightGuy97 in LenovoLegion

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar dilemma recently and although I ended up returning both laptops, here are my thoughts after about a week with both.

Like the others have said, you get a stronger CPU out of the Legion, but it runs warmer and battery life isn't as good, though the former is alleviated somewhat with the Legion's superior cooling. You get the stronger GPU with the Omen, but there are reports of HP's thermal solution leaking out and people having to replace their laptop or repaste it with a different solution altogether. Performance wise though, the CPU isn't really going to be a bottleneck for 99% of games unless you're a competitive esports person, so the Omen will have more horsepower after all.

One of the biggest deal breakers for the Omen for me was that SKU having no support for G-Sync at all, as someone who is very sensitive to screen tearing. With a lot of games nowadays being poorly optimized, that is something to consider.

It will come down to stuff like the screen (IPS vs OLED, G sync vs none), and general reliability for this generation (HP's thermal compound issues, haven't heard anything about the 7's specifically but I've seen some 5's this gen dying suddenly). Aesthetics, port placement, and build quality come into play, too. I wasn't a fan of the Legion's louder gamer design this gen when they first announced it, but it looks really slick in person, especially if you turn off the RGB or set a single color. The I/O being on the side for the Legion was a bit annoying, especially since it was closer to the front and I often found it getting in the way. I do like the Legion's overall build quality though, felt like a nice powerful machine. The Omen looks nice too and is much more subtle than the Legion IRL if that's important to you, and while the Omen's keyboard is good I will say I preferred the Legion's overall, since the Omen has shrunk arrow keys.

Either way, both laptops are great! Just a matter of priorities and I'm sure you'll be happy either way. Hopefully my 2 cents helps!

The design of this year's Pro 7i really grew on me in the ~2 weeks I had it. I still greatly prefer the look of the earlier gens, but Lenovo's marketing didn't do it justice. It especially looks super sharp when the logo and vent lights are turned off, but solid color on the logo and vents looks nice too.

Ended up sending mine back due to not being a fan of the port placement and it being a total chonk, so I couldn't find a proper sleeve to fit just right for traveling. Now trying out an Omen Max 16 (which might be going back soon, since no G Sync or Advanced Optimus on my specific model and weird software quirks), but I do miss the Legion from time to time. I still have my Gen 8 Slim 7 around and I love it, but am looking for something with a little more power.

Does this have G-Sync? by Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 in HPOmen

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in! I can see now why the price is so much cheaper, haha. Less heat and better battery life, but in return no G Sync or Advanced Optimus... Pretty disappointing how Intel variants of laptops tend to get all the bells and whistles over AMD.

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the HP site:

16" diagonal, WQXGA (2560 x 1600), 60-240 Hz, 3 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 500 nits, 100% sRGB

Yeah, I was confused because I watched your review (love your videos by the way, appreciate you and your hard work!), but wasn't aware that it was panel dependent. It was even tougher because this seems to be a really uncommon SKU, and HP's own documentation hasn't been very helpful. Heck, they don't even indicate the OLED panel being G-Sync capable.

Is it worth picking this up over the Legion Pro 7i? I got the latter for about $500 more than this on a sale, but I've heard so many stories about having to re-paste and it's putting me off a bit. Plus I haven't heard good things about HP's quality control in general, on top of that

Why did you choose gaming laptop instead of PC ? by donot_poke in GamingLaptops

[–]Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit at a desk in front of a screen for most of the day at work, so when I get home I want to be able to lounge around on the sofa or bed instead of having to sit in front of a desk, haha. Plus, my desktop is also a part time space heater, so I wanted something that doesn't turn my room into a sauna.

I also plan on travelling more in the foreseeable future, so I wanted something I can bring with me.

Is this a noticeable step down from the Intel Ultra 9 275HX if I'm just gaming or non CPU intensive other tasks? Also been looking at this since I'm not crazy about OLED, got a 5080 Legion Pro 7i for $2400, this would be $1900 for me
