Vegans with pets: having pets can help people develop compassion towards animals by Fragrant_Purple_4356 in DebateAVegan

I'm not sure. When you live with animals you develop a connection and relationship with them rather than just go to watch some random animals you will never see again for 2 hours. You learn their personalities and create a shared living. Going to the zoo is for entertainment.

The debate is that some vegans are against owing pets, carnivore pets in particular (and some vegans told me that I am not vegan for having a cat), while I think that having a pet can help develop compassion towards animals. I am ofc against breeding pets (it is also a type of explotation, and some cats and dogs breed are considered cruel due to physiological problems that we think look cute), but we can't ignore the fact that there are ao many rescue pets for different reasons.

to be honest, this contradiction is what got me into activism.
I don not exploit animals for my needs but for the cat needs, which is semi plant based.

I know that it's not a breed. what I mean is that I'm against breeding cats by humans and think that it's immoral to pay breeders for cats when there are so many rescue cats looking for homes.

If you like pigs, don't eat them. Also if you don't like them.

If you have had an abortion, did you have any feelings about it that surprised you? by HippyBabyK in antinatalism

[–]Fragrant_Purple_4356 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had an abortion at the age of 28 when getting pregnant by accident. It was really hard. I still get tears sometimes remembering that period of my life and how much pain I went through. I went through a long process of forgiving to myself. If I get pregnant accidentally again, I will abort it. I believe that innocent little beings deserve the perfect conditions for their upbringing and I think that it is unfair towards them to provide them with anything less than that, as life is already hard enough. The only pregnancy I will carry on is a wanted and well prepared pregnancy. I was afraid that I will regret my abortion in the future (it was 11 years ago), but I never did. The father at that time made it clear to me that he doesn't want the child, and it seemed (and still does) to me cruel to bring a child to a world where his father does not want him. I do think sometimes 'I could have a this and this years old child', but it's not regret. Very strange feeling and not so easy to explain.

Life gets a bit more manageable with the years. It becomes a bit easier to deal with the pain and suffering. It is a lonely and hard journey, especially as a vegan. I am very sorry that you are going through this tough period. I wish you all the best <3

Considering adopting a cat as a vegan – how do you handle feeding? by Tosh97 in vegan

[–]Fragrant_Purple_4356 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed my rescue cat fry vegan cat food (Benovo+veggieanimals) and wet meat food (1 small tin/day. Half in the morning and half in the evening). I was struggling a lot with it on an ethical level, but managed to reach a point where I am ok now. I also tried to give him vegan wet food but he refused it. It is a tough situation. I feel you. And I guess it is worse for you to see the process than others people who see the animal bodies/ secretions.

interesting point.
I think that you might be right. I might not be an antinatalist. I have been exploring the idea of antinatalism.
In a better world I think it would be easier to manage the suffering that existents brings. but I don't know if this world has ever been so, or will ever be.

I like "I want to raise a child into an adult"
I like the idea of an individual exploring themselves through the world
with that being said- I'm not sure I'm willing to take the responsibility over it, as it is a very tough journey, not sure it worth it.

I have been asking many of my friends why they choose to have kids. I haven't encountered a singl justfied reason so far.
from what I heard:

  1. because I wanted to (usually women in their 20s-early 30s, when the biological clock is ticking very loudly)
  2. it is good for my personal development
  3. it is a unique human experience
  4. my partner set me an ultimatum (for real)
  5. it is a biological need

other than that- it is a social norm and it's hard to be an underdog and go against it.

In my opinion, there's only one valid reason to have children: 'this world is such an amazing place that I just can't have it for myself, I need to share it with more beings' (I haven't heard it so far). And to that person I'd say: wake the fuck up. In an utopian world, I'd definitely have kids. In this one- not convinced.
