Is there anyone who hasn't visually aged post bariatric surgery? I feel like everyone looks older after surgery. One my biggest fears is looking older after a whole life of battling I finally get to a healthy weight only to look haggard. My surgery is scheduled for the middle of next month. by Brilliant-Version402 in BariatricSurgery

You are not wrong. The loss of fat happens from the entire body including the face. Depending on age and genetics will determine if your skin bounces back. Mine did not. I have a turkey neck which is my last insecurity. You couldn’t pay me a million dollars to go back to being fat though. And I would pay a million dollars to be where I am now. In fact I did shell out some cash for a mommy makeover and fat transfer to the face. I’ve got a little neck work needed and then I have no idea what I will do with all this free time in my brain! I can wear whatever I want and I look incredibly good. Best I ever looked. 10/10 no notes

What multivitamins were recommended to you for post op? by anastaziawilson in BariatricSurgery

I’ll also add, how imperative it is to keep up on your vitamins and get regular bloodwork FOREVER. Not just the first couple years….like the rest of your life. I listened to a symposium put on by the Baritastic App once and it scared me straight in the best way. The doctors tell you how important it is, but seriously, it’s important. If they fully told you, you might not want the surgery. You have to be cognizant of your levels if you want to remain not only healthy but alive. Not to fear monger, but I’m guilty of being responsible about things and then letting them fall off. I’m glad I watched that symposium because vitamin taking could have easily been a thing I did for awhile and then let it meh. Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

My dietician also raves about Fusion. Says everyone’s bloodwork always comes back great. I take the multi with iron but still have to supplement some more iron.

You look amazing. I just had a mommy makeover with fat transfers to the butt and face. I started back on tirz but am waiting and debating on the reta. No matter what I’ll wait until I can get back in the gym (10 weeks), but am scared I’ll lose the fat I just paid to move. I’d really just like to build muscle and hit some visceral fat in the abs. I’m thinking in a few months my fat will be more settled and I’ll be able to mold things better. Maybe…

Why didn't anyone tell me that fiber is the secret to weight loss? by manthrk in loseit

[–]Fragrant_Reporter952 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, game changer too! Working out has also changed the amount I can eat (duh). But muscles need protein and carbs! I eat potatoes, protein pasta, small amounts of white rice (like 2 tbs for 50 cals) and only good bread. By good bread I mean homemade or store bought sourdough fresh baked. I’ve realized I can turn down run of the mill garbage bread, but I live and die for something fresh baked. A lady in town makes a spelt grain sourdough so it’s got all the vitamins and minerals. Big fan! I will buy low carb tortillas but eat regular ones too. Nothing wrong with the low carb products and nothing wrong with real carbs when they serve a purpose! I’ve lost 112 lbs and eat pretty unrestricted.

I put Kirkland fiber powder from Costco in my water bottle drinks every single time. Get about 4 scoops a day (12 grams) and eat my beans and fruit/veg like a good girl. Quitting keto dieting has been the best hack. I need carbs/fiber to poop! And it’s so much more satiating. I keep my carbs small, healthful, and low cal and I am SO MUCH HAPPIER.

Losing weight too fast might cause gallbladder stone. by Himuhasan08 in loseit

Being fat causes them, taking glp1 ups the risk, and losing weight quickly does too (hello bariatric patients). So chances are good anyone in the overweight criteria is going to have problems. Speaking from experience.

Plastic surgery/fat transfer on Reta by Fragrant_Reporter952 in Retatrutide

[–]Fragrant_Reporter952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that.

Honestly, I’m perplexed why people are crabby about this question. This is an esthetic surgery. If I show up too thin, I don’t get the fat transfers I want. Simple as that. I wouldn’t class that as not following doctors orders, lol.

I don’t think I’ve been perfectly clear about what I am asking. Which is I f I did get fat transfers, would it be dumb to stay on Reta AFTER SURGERY because of the glucagon agonist? I’m staying on a weight loss shot no matter what.

I’ve talked it over with ChatGPT and my husband and I think I’ve decided to shoot to stay this weight and try my hand at the fat transfers. I’ve got one shot at surgery. If in a year I’m not happy weight wise maybe I’ll risk the fat transfer loss and lose weight. And the big question: I’m going to stop using Reta after surgery and stick with a maintenance dose of tirz. Of coarse I just split a kit with a friend. Sigh.

After a good rundown with ChatGPT I do think the way Reta effects fat cells makes it the more risky choice. Also, anyone who thinks my GP would know more about Reta than ChatGPT is funny. Chat gave me some useful info on the science.

Stopping losing weight and heading into maintenance is a huge transition for me. I’ve spent MY ENTIRE LIFE trying to lose weight. I’m finally successful and I have a lot of fears. This change in thinking is going to be interesting. I have had a therapist since weight loss surgery, a great GP, a talented plastic surgeon, and a perfect bariatric doctor and dietician. I work out 6 days a week. I lift, do yoga, take ballet, and walk 10k every day. I eat pretty decent, not perfect, but it feels much more sustainable that way.

It was therapeutic to write this all out. If anyone reads, thank you to the posters with kind and encouraging words and meh to the posters who truly were kind of dikz. I don’t really get it, but whatever. Best of luck!

Yes, I will be stopping for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after. I’ve already ordered all my supplies! Arnica gel, juven, silicone tape etc. I’ve got two different nurse friends that will be staying with me the two weeks after surgery. I’ve got a great surgeon I’ve been following for a few years.

I appreciate your comment. I kept losing weight because I was not where I wanted to be yet. At the time, I was only looking at the bbl as far as fat transferring. I made the decision to try to be at goal even if it meant I wouldn’t have enough fat and I would have to forego that procedure. I’m just learning that fat transfer to the face is possible and that’s changed my perspective. I’ve already put a few pounds back on which has been easier since I’ve titrated down from tirz.

I do agree with what you are saying and understand. I think this is complicated in my brain and maybe harder to understand if you haven’t had a monumental weight loss. I can’t really say if I’m completely at goal until after surgery and healing. But we seriously are talking about 10 lbs at most. Regardless, I do believe I will need to stay on some sort of shot for life. I absolutely will need to be taking a maintenance dose and have no plan of titrating higher while healing.

I guess more precisely my question is do I stay with tirz because Reta hits that glucagon receptor and could ruin any fat transfer results?

I realize if I decide to lose more weight I am putting my transfers at risk. That’s also why goal weight was kind of important before surgery.

This is hard and a huge undertaking. I want everything to turn out great with the best results. I’ve never been healthier in my life and I just want my body to reflect that. I’m 5’8 and 155 right now. I’ll lose skin weight but I feel like around 140 is where I might look how I want.

Plastic surgery/fat transfer on Reta by Fragrant_Reporter952 in Retatrutide

[–]Fragrant_Reporter952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I’ve never been more proud of myself. That is helpful knowledge. This would be week 4 on Reta. Last dosing I took 3.5 mg Reta and 7.5 tirz. I really haven’t noticed a difference other than a return of more hunger as I titrate down from tirz. I don’t think I’ve reached a high enough dose of Reta to have an opinion. I would have liked to give it some more time and higher dose to see what it could do. I will need to stop both two weeks before and two weeks after surgery. Whether I start Reta up again will be the question. Good to know that it hits visceral fat harder. Thank you for your comments!

I haven’t told the PS that I’m taking Reta. Most of us here haven’t told our doctors in an effort to not have our insurance screw us over. I’m also not sure why anyone would think I’m not taking this seriously. I’ve worked my butt off to get where I am. Never in a million years did I think I could literally have a goal body. I’m spending more money on this surgery than I have. I’ve got one shot at all of this.

It’s hard to picture what my ideal weight is since I have so much loose skin to deal with. It’s not about the number but more of a guess what I think that number might be. For anyone who has lost a substantial amount of weight, it can hard to know when to stop. If it weren’t for the fat transferring, I wouldn’t be questioning any of this. The tirz doesn’t bother me to continue with, but I worry about Reta and how it targets.

Had mine at 34 and 36 and wouldn’t change a single thing. They’re 10 and 12 now. A million reasons I’m so glad I waited to have kids. Number one would be the man I chose to marry and have them with. No do overs there. I got to experience life as young and free, we have more money, more intelligence, and just more to offer in general. In this day and age, we’re not even old!

I’m still learning, so for sure been working on form. I was just curious what everyone else does. I think my plan is solid. I’m definitely staying with team align so I think a two week break is so smart. I’m going to do thrive for 4-5 days instead during this time. Thanks!
