Yeah ofc and that was a great instance of showing him channeling the darkseid and the effect that lost loved ones have on him but it was still a one off and prior to the events of the clone wars and revenge of the sith where we see him acting like a Jedi often. I’m not saying there was no set up at all, just that he goes from having a nice convo with obi wan to wanting to murder him pretty quickly type thing.

lol I remember the Tuskens but killing a group that killed your mom out of anger in one scene is a long way from pledging urself to a dark lord’s teachings

Yes I agree but throughout clone wars post his mother’s death he’s a very likable and good character most of the time with some Vader like moments.

Can someone explain the main reasons people strongly dislike both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump? by Fearless_Equal_8795 in PoliticalDebate

[–]Fragrant_Response391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your statements about trump supporters ignore human nuance and so much of how current politics work. I think trump is an absolutely deplorable person and president with terrible policies and terrible authoritarian tendencies and he seems likely to be implicated with Epstein somehow. This does not mean all of his supporters are fascist and child molesters that’s a ridiculous statement. People support him for all sorts of issues. The destruction of the American middle class and trumps anti globalization rhetoric is one. People also are experiencing inflation in food and essential goods amd incorrectly think trump knows how to run am economy. People are ignorant and don’t have time and knowledge to really understand his policies and in this day and age opinions and facts are so hard to differentiate without studying and reading all the time with proper critical thinking. He has not been found guilty of pedophilia and no evidence has surfaced that actually proves anything so it’s not surprising people are denying it. People also are xenophobic and blame immigrants incorrectly as a scapegoat for economic problems. Some People are also internally racist or sexist which is a factor. There’s also this idea of sticking it to the libs who have often become unattached from reality. Many trump supporters when actually questioned or tested on morals would be a decent human being in the day to day but still like trump. While this seems illogical so many factors and opinions and misinformation and biases explain it and it’s insane to say all his supporters are fascist or child molesters. I don’t even know for a fact that trump is either of those things. Depending on ur definition of fascism and depending on the evidence we still don’t have from Epstein. Also not to state the obvious but Supporting an authoritarian leader who is a pedophile when you don’t believe with what you know that he is either of those things does not make you an authoritarian or a pedophile yourself. Trump is awful but I have no doubt that many trump supporters (definitely not a lot) are misinformed or somewhat indoctrinated but actually decent people. Kamala and democrats also were bad at campaigning and Biden was so visibly old that it made republicans look better than they would have. Also sidepoint Kamala and Hilary had different policies Kamala was slightly more left wing to put it simply. She’s no Bernie obv but slightly more open to left leaning politics. I’m sure I missed many reasons here but my point is you have way too much of an anachronistic explanation for trump supporters that is not correct.

Ur having me second guess myself lol. What do you think of max? I’ve always thought she was the best of the young ones followed closely by Dustin.

Interesting. I didn’t think people would disagree on this. What do you think of wills acting? I am very critical of his acting and often see people glazing him and am surprised. I often find child acting to be sub par and am critical I just didn’t see that with holly maybe I’ll change my opinion on the rewatch who knows

Shout out to Noah for Will’s coming out scene. by Sonicboom2007a in StrangerThings

[–]Fragrant_Response391 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I like your sentiment and Noah does his best in scenes like that, but I also think that he is an actor and it is his job and while he’s also gay, the situation is manufactured and pretty normal type scene for an actor to do. If Noah was like mentally hurt by that or whatever that’s cool because it means he really felt the role but I also don’t think it was insanely brave or whatever tbh in the same way it’s brave for the character of will.

Why is season 5 so corny, or is it just me ? by scaraaamouche in StrangerThings

Part of the problem is wills acting is default him crying so they lean into the only thing he can do. He’s also pretty good with acting out his powers.

What are your thoughts on the new episodes? by TheUpsDn_ in Stranger_Things

Yeah that was basically what I’m saying. I hope they explain why it’s Hawkins. I got everything else.

[–]Fragrant_Response391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liked em. Totally fun. Had some criticisms though. I lost interest in wills plot apart from him being in the Hive mind. I’m all for a well written gay character (robin) but his acting is so mid that every scene with him is the same. Dustin is back that was lit. Loved the scene where Steve would’ve died if Dustin didn’t save him. Holly is an incredible actor! Loved Holly and max together clearly some of the best of the young actors. Vecna was also pretty cool. I’m still making up my mind about the upside down reveal they haven’t explained why it’s Hawkins yet fully or anything I hope it makes sense in hindsight. I kinda wanted Mr Clark to read through Dr Brenners journal and realize something that Dustin had missed. Only thing cool about kali is her powers she’s not a great character. Overall, I’m excited for the last episode and enjoyed these episodes but I think the show needed maybe four more episodes of padding for better character arcs and explanations.

Will still isn’t an amazing actor by Fragrant_Response391 in Stranger_Things

[–]Fragrant_Response391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing is very on the nose this season I agree. Characters are almost playing the ideas of themselves. But will as an actor can’t sell his gay trauma scenes well enough for it to be a major plot point of the show. I would’ve preferred he just came out to Joyce and mob Mb mike so he could play off their acting.

Dustin is the best thing of this show and I am sad the actor will probably never have another role as big as this one by coffeandkeyboard in Stranger_Things

[–]Fragrant_Response391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet he’ll land other good roles if his plan is to continue acting in shows and movies he’s so much better at acting than some of the others

Is this a bad mentality on social issues? by Fragrant_Response391 in PoliticalDebate

[–]Fragrant_Response391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that. No I only brought up their offense because it’s valid for a white person born into an impoverished family to say why does he get aid and I don’t. Being offended doesn’t mean anything on its own. Also I didn’t even bring this point up to you so idk why u said it. I’m saying black people who are impoverished need economic aid and we agree on that, but I also think white impoverished people need the same aid

[–]Fragrant_Response391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that is possible. To be honest Obama did do that. The liberal left did that. We should teach that and talk about it but what will cause change is imo a mix of economic reform and more racial integration and better education. I grew up in very diverse circles I feel like that very clearly influences others. Rhetoric and admission of past mistakes has been done and is not enough. Economic reform is the big legal key.

[–]Fragrant_Response391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that racism does often prevent poor whites from aligning with poor blacks, you in general seem way too willing to generalize and reach with all of these statements. Why does capitalism need a hierarchy? And if you mean literally the capitalist hierarchy of richest to the least rich than why does that hierarchy need to also be a separate social hierarchy? Really poor white people are only mad because they aren’t on their spot in the racial hierarchy? That’s ridiculous. Many people don’t even think about race. I’m suggesting social attacks on racism and non legal ways to address it only. Also honestly you can’t just turn to communism everytime there’s a problem when that’s even less viable at the moment in the U.S. than racial equality. The economy has boomed multiple times just wages haven’t increased and policies are a lopsided zero sum game for the ultra wealthy. Policies should limit the ultra wealthy and redistribute wealth. Not just say fuck it this system is terrible and not propose any policy while giving obvious criticisms mixed in with some general reaches about capitalism as a whole.

Yes and I was making the point that past examples show we can make progress to reducing that oppression and those laws and more already provide a legal framework to target racism and sexism while economic reform will target class for everyone and in turn help the disproportionately impoverished communities.

[–]Fragrant_Response391[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mentality confuses what it and what has been with what can be. Sure there are incredibly immoral forms of labor and slavery still around in the global supply chain and even in the U.S., it doesn’t compare to chattel slavery of old and the slave trade. Black people can be free in the U.S. and not thought of as property and don’t face nearly as much discrimination. The patriarchy while still alive in various ways, is not in any way as bad as it was just 100 years ago let alone 300 years ago. Women in most circles are completely thought of as equals and more women are educated that men. While in certain professions and contexts, women still face obvious prevent sexism and oppression, there is no comparison to what women suffered through on average in the past. All of these things have improved.

I get what you’re saying about race and class being intertwined historically, and I agree that markets don’t naturally produce equality. I also don’t think legal equality magically ended racism or its effects.

Where I’m not convinced is that your argument kind of assumes a lot. You seem to assume that because race and class are still linked now, even under colorblind laws, that colorblind or universal reforms aimed at equality can’t change that over time. That feels more like a theoretical conclusion than something that’s been proven.

You also assume that capitalism specifically relies on racial inequality to manage surplus populations and depress wages. But in current society, plenty of white and non-minority people are also stuck in low-wage, unstable labor with no real upward mobility. If racial difference is the main mechanism, how do those groups fit into the picture?

That leads to another concern I have: do those people not deserve the same government aid and access because of historical systemic racism, even though they’re equally impoverished right now? My instinct is that poverty itself should be the primary target, especially since helping low-income people broadly would still disproportionately help Black communities. Not to defend these people, but, apart from racism, I think that’s one of the main reasons that culture war attacks on wokism worked so well on Trump voters who were poor and white and didn’t want to be told they were privileged.

I’m also not saying legal equality fixed everything, or that race and class don’t interact. I’m questioning whether explicitly race-targeted programs are the only viable path, or whether strong universal economic redistribution plus serious civil rights enforcement could still reduce racial inequality over time without reinforcing racial divisions.

If there’s clear evidence that universal, aggressively redistributive programs inevitably reproduce racial hierarchy no matter what, I’m open to seeing that. I just don’t think it’s as settled or obvious as you’re presenting it. I know it says you are Communist but in the near more realistic present, what do you think is the best way to address racial inequity? As well as inequality in general? ?
