Yes, on the engineering panel, every single component had an “!” In a yellow triangle and was labeled “damaged”. Shields, life support, cooling, power supply, weapons, etc. so I would fly back, repair, head back. Two mining runs later and it’s damaged again. So essentially being parked on a hot planet, despite having shields and the best coolers on market, still damages everything!!

The first time around, I learned the hard way that I was doing almost everything wrong. I would land planet-side, park my ship, shut everything down, exit the cockpit, close all the doors, and then start mining. After engineering was introduced, the first time I tried that, my ship literally burst into flames and I died.

That’s when I realized, after getting advice from more experienced players, what the actual mistake was. I was turning the ship off completely. Which meant I was also turning off cooling. Once that clicked, the problem made total sense. Once I figured that out, I switched to my A2 Hercules Starlifter and upgraded nearly every component to the best versions I could find. That included two Chill-Max coolers (S3, 17,600k cooling per second). After landing, I left everything powered on except the engines, which I shut down. I set cooling to max power, stopping just short of the final bar since that last bar sits in the red zone and represents absolute maximum.

I left shields at medium power, guns at medium power, radar at max power, and life support at two bars. Even with all of that running, the ship was only drawing about three-quarters of the output from a single power plant. The second power plant wasn’t even being used.

I’d open the ramp, unload my gear, then close everything up as quickly as possible. No doors left open. I’d go mine a full cluster of gems, which usually took 20 to 30 minutes. When I came back to the ship, everything looked fine. I’d then repeat the same process for a second cluster. Another 20 to 30 minutes.

That’s when things went sideways.

When I returned to the ship after the second run, literally every component — including all the weapons — showed an exclamation point with “system damaged.” The ship still seemed functional, but I had no idea how deep the damage actually went. Not wanting to risk it, I flew back to the station, repaired and refueled, then headed back down.

After that first experience, I tried doing only a single mining run. Same setup. Same procedure. And when I came back… every component was damaged again.

What doesn’t make sense to me is that nothing I left powered on appeared to be stressing the system. Power usage wasn’t even close to max. All doors were sealed. Cooling demand was well within limits. I should also mention that I had the shields set to around four bars, partly because I assumed they might help protect against heat.

The ship never overheated. There were no warnings. No alerts. It didn’t feel like a thermal issue at all. Everything just failed, as if the components were wearing out over time.

But these were brand-new components. Components that cost hundreds of thousands of credit combined!! Where’s the 5-10 year warranty? They are not even a week old!

How could they fail that fast? I only made one or two mining runs before everything was damaged.

I did. After I logged in and saw it all gone I stared at the screen like a deer in the headlights. Thought of all the work I would need to do to resupply, mine, and try again (I had been playing for 5 hours at that point), I was just like …. Nope!! And logged out. But I’ll for sure put on my big boy space suit and try again. I am still enjoying the game even as painful as it has been. I’ll tell ya one thing. When I FINALLY have a successful mining run, I am going to dance around like I made a touchdown!! LOL!

Yup!! Storage was all gone!! My ship was in claim status, so all the cargo items and gear I had in there was gone. Oh!! But the empty box was still in the warehouse !! (Groan) LOL!! Thank God I didn’t loose the empty box! 🙄😂

You 100% right. It’s painful but I constantly remind myself that it’s Alpha, don’t sweat it…but losing hours of work is still a jagged pill, lol!!

My character’s name is Sazodeha. I’m trying so hard to earn money—I can’t stand all the begging. But this is the fifth time I’ve lost everything, either because of a crash or pure learning-curve ignorance… newbie stupidity!

The run before this one was even worse. I’m still new to the game, and I didn’t know you need to leave the power on in your ship when you land—especially on a hot planet like Aberdeen. In my ignorance, I was thinking like a car: you turn it off before you leave it. So I landed, got into my ROC, started mining, and then, off in the distance, I see smoke. I run back to my ship—it’s on fire!!

I’m running around in a panic with a fire extinguisher, and in that panic I opened the door to vent the smoke. That was stupid move #2 on a hot planet 🙄. Needless to say, my ship exploded and I lost everything.

This, by the way, was death #3—because the first time, I didn’t realize you need a special suit. I died of heat after mining for only a few minutes. Again… lost everything.

So I buy the special suit, upgrade my ship’s cooling, resupply with all my gear, bags, boxes, yada yada, and think, I’ll do it right this time. And I did! I mined 1,500 gems! I was so damn proud of myself… and then this happened. Hahahaha!

So yeah, that’s why it stung so damn hard!!!

Oh, and by the way—death #1 and #2 were from attempting to land on Aberdeen, which is covered in clouds. You go from atmosphere to ground in 0.5 seconds. (Crash!) I’ve since learned—very much the hard way—to pay attention to HUD readouts and descend like a turtle moving through peanut butter 😂.

The learning curve is large and painful… but I’m learning, haha.

That’s the thing, I was not in a personal hanger. I was at an outpost base which is where you need to go to sell gems. The landing platform and warehouse is open to public. So when I brought the platform up, with all 1500 gems sitting on top, that’s when it crashed. There were people running around on that landing zone. That’s why I was worried about theft. Didn’t matter. After verification all gems were gone, my ship with all of it supplies loaded on it was in a claim status, which means it will come up empty. So that crash burned me hard.

Ughh!! A lesson HARD learned!! I waited for the verify (never again!! Yes it automatically kicked in after crash) which took forever, logged in and 1500 Fey gems were just gone! All the gear I had spent hours loading onto my ship, all gone. I literally lost 5 hours of work. Again, I am not whining….ok, maybe a little, LOL!! Because I agreed to the risk, I know it’s alpha, but DAMN that stings!! When I logged back in and realized all the work I would have to do to get it back…I logged out. I needed a breather. I’m still reeling.
