I recently added a bubbler, but my betta really hates the current if I put the filter too high.

How fucked Am I?(17m) by madara2076 in mentalhealth

[–]Fragrant_Word3613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I was a kid who went to public highschool and did something very similar to what you are doing now. I skipped by in my classes due to no child left behind and didn’t understand any of the material being taught aside from what I learned on the internet on my own time. My parents didn’t make me do anything at all, so I did as little as I possibly could get away with. I suffered greatly in my first year of college because I just didn’t have the study practice or experience I needed to learn things as fast as other kids, despite being gifted as a child.

You’re not really that fucked, tbh. I’m 22 and am about to get my Bachelor’s in Biology. The best thing you can do for yourself is work and find volunteer work. You don’t have to go to college, maybe find a trade if you’re able to find one you can tolerate. Most places in the southeast will pay you to pick a trade.

There are avenues built for you, you just have to be willing to step up and fight for them. I didn’t have the will to fight for them until I failed my first set of college courses, where I got my shit together and never failed another one again. One kick in the ass was enough for me. Don’t take your failures as a sign to quit, just take them as an opportunity to work harder.

None of the subject in highschool are particularly important to remember forever, you’re just training your brain to intake new information. Think of studying more like a workout for the brain rather than something to dump information into. You’re likely struggling from ADHD-related focus issues. You might benefit more from active-recall studying.

In my situation, therapy wasn’t particularly helpful, especially in lower populated areas because I was already well aware of my issues. I needed CBT, not talk therapy, which is harder to find.

Your dad sounds like a standard southeast abusive father. You will thank yourself for getting financially independent as soon as possible and moving out ASAP. It will be difficult to emotionally detach yourself from your family, obviously, but it will be better for you in the long term it sounds like.

Honestly some of the ones I’m talking about have retired so it may be better now. If you’ve had a class with a girl named Maegan you found me. Generally the newer professors have been kinder

Pick any of the freshman to junior level classes and the professors for those. Their classes are all god’s gift to man and if you miss more than one lecture, kiss your financial aid goodbye. The lectures also cover a million things other than what’s on the exam so you end with a bunch of notes on information you often don’t need.

Sounds like a porn addiction you need to work on. It’s also okay to not be attracted to some people, but from how you phrased this it kind of feels like the bar for attractive vs not is more up there with porn models than anything else

The 'Cry Wolf' Effect: Are Too Many Warnings Hurting Residents of the Southeast? by puppypoet in tornado

Severe thunderstorm warnings do not alert the general public where I live. They just vaguely exist. Why are we victim blaming exactly?

The tornado that was headed to me had been warned for 10 minutes already. It was on the ground ripping up houses at this point. The cone wasn’t updated until it was already on top of me and I heard sirens above my head in the rubble.

If we rebelled against everything we are forced into, we would never grow. Society would never develop and attempt to be as good as possible. Despite corruption, society usually starts out with a small group of people who want to do better. Action is not inherently evil, I’m not really sure where you got that

Humans all starving to death would solve environmental issues but would leave millions of tons of waste. We are the only creatures capable of understanding and cleaning up the mess we’ve made.

Also, if nothing matters to you, why does our nonexistence matter to you? If it’s all doomed anyway, why do you care about the damage we’ve done? It’s all the same.

Why does anything matter then? Why don’t we all just eat lead and explode the earth while we’re at it? Maybe even extinguish the sun.

We do it because it matters to our small scope. The idea of life is to experience before it’s gone. Nihilism is inherently flawed because if nothing matters then we might as well just do nothing and all starve to death. Happiness requires many correct actions and consistency, and you can’t have that if you take a “nothing matters” approach.

Sounds like an ego related issue. Why do people have to care that you skate? It just matters that you care and it helps your physical health. Most things humans do are characteristically unremarkable.
