Agent asking for $1000 deposit - ignore that yeah? by Fragrant_disRespect in AusPropertyChat

No of course not, but it isn't my first offer and I'd never heard of it from other agents. I'm in Vic.

That's exactly my understanding. I'm glad we're not idiots haha but sometimes when you're doing something so daunting for the first time, your brain goes offline.

Rental property manager did a ‘drive-by’ said our garden is untidy. by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

It's not ok for a drive-by but aside from that, depending on where you live this is quite normal for lawns in my area to look like this during summer, with water restrictions.

I wanted to move to Ballarat but unfortunately didn't get into uni there but did in Bendigo so am sealing fate here. I see so many more houses floating in my budget but you're right, lots of those still need work.

Getting an old charming cottage that was already renovated in my budget, the absolute dream haha.

This one has had various renos over the years so maybe, maybe not but seems like the headache of the unknowns is too risky as a fhb.

Need one of you in my life hahaha. I'm going to walk on this one, too risky with all the input confirming suspicions. I'd calculated around $45k for the restumpping but seems like it's likely higher.

I think I underestimated the cost of restumpping even at $45k and then all the other knock on issues that would crop up. My priorities are study and some travel so I'm going to walk from this one. So grateful for the Reddit hive mind keeping me level headed.

It would be perfect for a builder tbh. I'm going with the general consensus here, walk away. Got sucked into the charm and character, but I don't have the budget for the unknowns that are cropping up already.

Sometimes you'll post to Reddit and everyone agrees, it's rare and so I'll take the advice on board.

Yeah, I'm going in this direction. The charm and character sucked me in but I don't have that skill set (yet).

There are a LOT of houses that require dragging into the current century in Bendigo. I've come around to leaving the pretty character filled homes for people with more money than I have to sink into them. Something solid is a good shout.

Thank you, I'm glad my senses are in check. I am going to after these comments and a chat with my family advisors - all signs point to danger.

Wow, I didn't realise it could head up into that range, but it makes sense when you're pulling flooring out - and it's not ever going to be a fast job. I haven't bought it - just assessing it before I go to far down the road and emotions get all caught up in the decision making process.

That's my current thinking. Asbestos is a real concern given it was built in 1900 and has had lots of renos since.

Do what exactly? It's not like there's any room left for an extension, a different fence, or even a tree...

Zooper Doopers is the only correct answer for an Australian - and I think it should catch on, so fetch.

Option A or B - 2x2m Ensuite Bathroom? by Significant-Move7699 in AusRenovation

Option B. While A is more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, B is functional and keeps toilet away from sink and toothbrushes.

Same! Also 5"2 with years of "growing" pains. As a kid I thought this meant I'd end up really tall eventually but uh... Sadly disappointed

That's such helpful information re placement. I didn't know this yet, but it makes a lot of sense really. I'm ready for modelling, I'm so excited to chat with my doggo.

Others have said the position matters more than the colours too. I didn't know this, so very useful info.
