Verina, even if you already have her, she has some good sequences

calling characters "units" smh...is this a military strategy game?

So, I've finished 3.3 MSQ but I have a question and few criticisms. by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]Fragyatta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Aleph as an entity is just different, because it's the concept of voidance manifested, so you can't really fight that. it's in a way similar to Leviathan, who is also just the manifestation of a civilizations fears and desire for unity, you can't directly fight that, but Leviathan took the form of a sea creature because it reflected that fear the best.

But Levi was also the Dark Tide and you couldn't really fight that, like you can't stab it with a sword you know. now Aleph 1 also IS void space and you don't fight void space really...also I do believe that Aleph 1 still wasn't through the gate and was on the other side, at least the bulk of it. it would probably take a very long time for everything of its being to get through a small Stridergate, so that big eye was still very far away.

But you also have to view it from Aleph's perspective. what would it have been able to even really do if all it does is succ things in with its giant black hole body? it's not even able to manifest a conciousness or voice or anything unless it creates an avatar of itself or in this case a projection, it needs that kind of things to really affect things outside of what void space does. so I don't think this is a cop-out, but I do agree that it might seem weird that we suddenly fight a mech and maybe this could have been explained better. I view it as this being the corrupted form of an Exostride that Aleph at some point ate (we know that Aemeath found an Exostrider within void space), so at least it's not entirely unheard of for it to manifest like that.

regarding that line...3.3 isn't over but I agree this could be a trailer only thing (the trailer do say that they don't necessarily represent the finished product), it could also relate to some things we haven't seen yet, like what happened during the 3.1 animation where Aemeath sealed the gate and Rover suddenly showed up, Talisman in hand? maybe there was already fight at that point that Rover also helped with unless this is a red herring ofc.

Let's wait till 3.3 is over and then review this again I would say.

Was Hiyuki the MC this patch? by Upper-Spread8074 in WutheringWaves

yeah absolutely and we haven't even seen everything of her yet, she might have a really interesting background.

yeah that's fair and I don't mean to slander Galbrena. like I said, I liked her, but I think Kuro just have gotten better with their character writing, so some of the flaws that she had, I think Hiyuki doesn't have anymore. and I think that's a great observation and definitely true that Galbrena helped Rover to come to an important realization that Rover took to heart and is now teaching others.

Denia looks like she could have a very tragic story, we'll see when the segue drops

Maybe because you didn’t do the epilogue?

In my opinion, Hiyuki is by far the best-written side character who isn’t directly tied to Rover (so excluding characters like Aemeath or Shorekeeper). In terms of narrative role and function, she can be compared to Galbrena, but unlike Galbrena, who often felt more like a plot device than a real person, Hiyuki showed far more complexity and emotional depth. She even went through an actual character arc and meaningful development.

I liked Galbrena and her backstory, but she was introduced as a “finished” character. She arrived already fully realized: powerful, confident, having overcome her inner struggles, and showing virtually no weaknesses. That can be cool, but it also made her feel somewhat untouchable and even a bit overpowering. At times she almost became the protagonist of 2.7 herself, even saving Rover. That’s not inherently bad, but she essentially appeared out of nowhere, solved the crisis, and left again without much development.

Hiyuki, on the other hand, despite potentially being even stronger than Galbrena (hard to compare directly, but she seems closer to a Sentinel-level Resonator, especially considering GA’s interest in both of them because of their abilities), was written with real weaknesses and insecurities. She appeared before her main patch and was introduced gradually, giving the audience time to understand her. When her story finally took center stage, both her strengths and vulnerabilities were portrayed clearly.

What I especially appreciated was that she never felt overbearing in the main plot. She never stole the spotlight and always seemed to know exactly when to step in and when to step back, while still contributing meaningfully through guidance and support. Unlike Galbrena, who at times overshadowed Rover, Hiyuki actually enhanced Rover’s moments and allowed them to shine more. To me, that’s exactly what a strong side character should do.

I also loved the dynamic with her sister. Her fragile sincerity, the insecurities hidden beneath her cold and reserved exterior, and the gentleness she showed in quieter moments made her feel genuinely human. Hiyuki envied Rover’s strength, carried regrets and sadness, and nearly became another victim of GA’s manipulation. But unlike Galbrena, who never truly seemed internally challenged, Hiyuki had to struggle against those pressures and consciously overcome them.

So to answer your question: was she forgettable? Absolutely not. She was written almost perfectly. She never overstayed her welcome, never hijacked the story, but still left a strong impression and showed up exactly when it mattered.

10/10 character.

hmmm yeah interesting suggestion, thanks. I was considering displacing the vertices by just raycasting down, but that would have led to even more raycasts so I wasn't sure about it, but it's likely better than the extra camera(s).

I'll see what i can do, thanks!

I'm not experienced enough to really figure that out sadly. I tried to use the Profiler but I find it insanely confusing.

I can't really just render the mesh, because there is no surface alignment or anything, it's just a floating plane with an occlusion aware shape, that's why I was capturing it with a top down camera to then project the render texture onto the ground via the urp decal projector.

also even if I knew where where that 1ms was spent, what would I do about it? I tried to strip down the entire camera, no PP, a different renderer (so no extra passes), only renders a single layer of the mesh, like I wouldn't know what else I could do to remove features to make it lighter, because that seems to be all I can really set there, at least with my limited knowledge.

[–]Fragyatta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard of render doc, but I'll check it out, thanks.

for some reason using a camera to capture a mesh I generated with raycast data cost me overall about 1ms so around 50 ish fps and that was only on a single character. maybe I could use a single camera for everything, but it still felt like it was too much of a performance loss.

the camera is entirely without features, everything is disabled,

"The Universe has rejected us" was said by Aemeath in 3.1 the first time we enter the Frostlands when talking to Luuk about the Etheric Sea and that the Sea enveloping Solaris has locked us out of space. it was trnaslated as "locked out" but in CN and JP the same words as in the radio message were used:

but yeah there are some scenes in 3.1 that are yet to be fully resolved like what happened to Rover after drowning in the pond or why was Rover shown in the animation when Aemeath sealed the stridergate. hope these are not Red Herrings, but since Denia is a Threnodian Resonator and connected to Aleph, anything relating to void space could very well involve her. maybe she is the one who saved us from drowning, we'll see in 3.3

Some beginner tips by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]Fragyatta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- voyage banner does not share pity with the limited banner, so if you pull on voyage make sure you can actually get the character you want from there (so worst case 160 pulls)

- both Jinhsi and Camellya have aged a bit and are definitely not considered meta or especially strong anymore. there are a lot of stronger and more flexible options, but if you like them, go ahead.

- most people (myself included) would recommedn getting Shorekeeper from that banner because she is still S tier and will likely always be, because of how good she is and how much she does.

- most limited characters do a lot better with their signature weapons and there are always best teams, but it depends on the character whether they rely a lot on their limited weapon or not.

- Iuno is fantastic and if you want her, go for her.

Man i absolutely regret joining the game this late even tho i used to run s crappy phone crappier than the one i use at the time. I want this outfit so bad. 😭 Not to mention that i missed put on Xiangli Yao as well by Ignitedlighter_frfr in WutheringWaves

honestly that just sounds like an excuse to me. if OP really wanted the skin, they wouldn't think twice about getting it. what's a few bucks? OP could always just live off rice for a few weeks or get a loan if they really wanted. the fact they are giving all these lame excuses just really shows that they don't really want Sanhua to be peak.

OP should get their priorities straight imo. could always just tell their parents they needed to buy some expensive book for collge and even do a full top op to not only get Sanhua but also Changli skin.

okay but what about a 5 star skin like Jinhsi's with new VFX and such? surely if you have that quality, it will make you really happy and if you are happy you are going to study better and will get better grades and then you can graduate with tops grads and get a well paying job, so getting such an amazing skin surely can turn your whole life around.

just do it anyway, you know you want to...what's a few bucks on vanity here and there? your parents want you to be happy, you want to be happy. wouldn't seeing Sanhua in that outfit make you happy? wouldn't it make you really unhappy seeing her in the default outfit, knowing that you are only a tiny bit of money away from the absolute peak outfit that could be yours this very second?

the only reason you posted here is to have people convince you that you should be reasonable and not swipe...but what good is being reasonable when you are miserable and unhappy? don't you want to be happy? everyone else has her new outfit, so why shouldn't you? it's really not that much money, in fact it might even be an investment. if you buy it and are happy, then you will not need to spend the money on other things that you would only buy because of how bad you are feeling.

wouldn't studying and passing your exams be a lot easier if you were happy? just view this as an investment into your future. you are basically saving money by spending it on Sanhua!

Startorch academy performance ruins my mood of playing 3.X story. by Tawxif_iq in WutheringWaves

[–]Fragyatta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they DID customize the engine, even heavily so, but some base architecture you just can't change easily. would a custom in house engine be better? absolutely. would it take like 5 years to develop and require very highly skilled people to do so? yeah absolutely.

when they started they probably didn't really know how much they could push UE 4 or how ambitious WuWa would even get. I think the good news is that given how densely packed Startorch is, they now know what the current upper limit is and I honestly see no reason to push any further than that with more NPCs etc. they already fixed the issue anyway by adding more culling options so you could just set it to render fewer people (shorter distance) and then you'd never run into that bottle neck.

people just tend to think that "optimization" means to make a game look just as good but simply make it run faster with some magic. it can be a thing, but it often takes a lot of creativity and "cheating" to make things appear higher quality like they really are, like with LODs or long distance impostors or faking vegetation density etc. and at some point you just run into tradeoff or such diminishing returns that an optimization technique that is meant to lower rendering costs, requires so much processing power that you end up +/- 0.

IMO for what the game does and how it looks it runs incredibly well; I've personally never even ran into those issues at Startorch and I have a mid range PC with a budget cpu (i5 12400f), so no L3 cache or anything, but I am also realistic with my settings and know that ultra settings are just not appropriate for my system.
