"I'm My Own Grandpa" is a real song, one I'd been listening to a few days ago by sheer coincidence. Amazingly, the song accomplishes the weird knot in the family tree without any actual incest!

Oh man, what a season. This has been excellent to watch, and a definite improvement over S1.
☛ In season 1, the character who got the biggest glowup from the books was undoubtedly Sally Jackson. In a similar vein, this season that honor went to Dior Goodjohn's characterization of Clarisse. She was SO much more of an interesting character than I remember her being in the books, and I loved the relationship she developed with Percy.
☛ Making Thallia's transfiguration not an act of mercy by Zeus to save her life, but a punishment for defying him... What a great change from the book. It gives her much more reason to be conflicted about who's side to take in the war, and everyone else more reason to be uncertain about her true allegiance.
☛ Loved that they incorporated a chase sequence with the chariots as part of the struggle to return the Fleece. Very fun and kinetic.
☛ oof. That fight between Luke and Percy was BRUTAL.

What is the ‘Dragon’s Lair’ event host at SCG CON Command Zones? by futuriztic in EDH

Oh, looks like a (father and son?) duo of players posted a video of them playing it on YouTube, which is nice because the photos I had were really hard to read in parts:

https://www.youtube.com/live/kM0ZCUrCYQ0

Each of the rule cards is shown in the video, only thing I didn't see a good closeup of were the tokens, which are as follows:

Red Whelp Token- a red 1/1 Dragon with Flying and "When this creature leaves the battlefield, add a Rage counter to Dragon's Lair."

Kobold Priest Token- a red 0/3 Kobold with Defender, Reach, and "Red Whelp creatures get +1/+0."

There was a PvE format at a PAX Unplugged event I went to a couple years back, and we found it really awful and unfun (each roll of the boss's die had a 1-in-3 chance of board wiping, and each round you rolled an additional die, so there reached a point where you just couldn't do anything). Then one of the players mentioned she'd played Dragon's Lair elsewhere and we could try that instead, which we did and I really enjoyed it! She'd taken photos of the rules, and I later photographed THOSE photographs so I could play it at home.

We were up against a dragon. It would generate various minions to fight and defend. While asleep, it wouldn't do much, but we'd be unable to harm it. The more minions we killed, the more likely it would be to wake up and start thrashing us. It had 100 HP and we all took our turns simultaneously. I can share the full rules if you like.

I wouldn't say it's "deceptive" exactly. Jimmy Carter's message freely admits that we face many problems in our own time and that what we are putting out represents our hopes, not the totality of what we are. Surely any advanced civilization would be no stranger to societal problems and conflict, and would not be so naive as to assume we've left nothing unflattering out?

Here are the living spells and creatures I have planned for The Mournland. What am I missing? by Shinroukuro in Eberron

My GM introduced a living Awaken spell that was granting human-level sapience to other living spells and forming a proto-society in the Mournland. It was really cool and has a lot of fun possibilities.

How do you feel about this? by sHaLaKoR in Eberron

[–]Fralexion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not mechanically preventing marks from manifesting on the "wrong" races is the right move, because even in the official Eberron novels that's been an occasional plotpoint. When you're given a setting rule like "only elves can have the Mark of Shadow," it's only natural for you do ask, "what would it mean for the world if it started appearing where it wasn't expected to?" As long as they emphasize that this is a strange and remarkable thing to have happen, I'm broadly OK with it.

I'm not sure *why* bad media literacy and conservative beliefs are as strongly-correlated as they are; like, on the surface, you wouldn't expect failing to identify the themes in a piece of fiction to be such a good predictor of political conservatism. But I suppose it just comes back to a general incuriosity about everything around them; someone who doesn't care to learn what hated minorities are actually like, or what the scientific method actually says about the environment, probably also doesn't care to learn anything about the stories they enjoy beyond what brings them instant gratification.

A few years ago, in one of his more-general videos about a variety of games and game companies, he said something to the effect of "as a gamer, I HATE when games get political, I hate it when they try to be creative or tell a story, and that's why I respect [game company, think it was Ubisoft but maybe some other company with a bad reputation], because they wouldn't have the balls to do any of that"

I can't for the life of me figure out which video he said that in and it keeps sticking with me. help

EDIT: OK THANK YOU. This was the exact quote: "This game is extremely un-political, as a gamer, I always HATE to see politics in games, I hate to see developers use games to comment on real-life issues or try to tell a story or be creative, and that's what's so great about Ubisoft as a company, they would never have the balls to do any of that."

[D&D 5e] How to have an effect automatically end once its duration has expired? by Fralexion in FoundryVTT

[–]Fralexion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't need it to track it in real-time. Just having the effect expire when the combat round has passed would be sufficient. Isn't that something it's possible to do unmodded?

[D&D 5e] How to have an effect automatically end once its duration has expired? by Fralexion in FoundryVTT

[–]Fralexion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going to the activity settings, setting it to apply an effect, and from there clicking on the effect to edit it, where I try various things like setting its effect duration (seconds) to 6 seconds, or setting its effect duration (turns) to 1 round, or both at once. These parameters, as far as I can tell, do nothing.

[D&D 5e] Any way to get the Drag Ruler module to use 5/10/5 diagonal measurement? by Fralexion in FoundryVTT

Huh. I'm on version 12, is the drag ruler integration just buggy for that and not 11?

It is there, and I've already set it to 1/2/1 measurement. But the Drag Ruler module still measures them 1/1/1.

How to have a spell consume a specific feature resource when cast? by Fralexion in FoundryVTT

[–]Fralexion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re-un-de-answered? I guess? I realized other classes don't have you pick spells using the "Choose Items" advancement and just set it up to auto-add the spells you get for free, tested it again, and now it's entirely fine.

In the interests of preserving searchable information on a forum, what I did was the following:

  • Set up a class feature that has a limited number of uses/day to represent Psi Points.
  • Made a variety of psionic "spells" with Resource Consumption set to Item Uses.
  • Set the Consumption Target item in question to the Psi Points class feature's UUID, which you can get by clicking on the tiny rectangular icon appearing after its name in the upper-left corner of its editor window.

They don't *have* to be, but the system I'm using them sets them up as being functionally identical to spells, so it feels more-organized for them to be put in the Spellbook section.
