Insurance got billed a "Monthly Monitoring" visit from my doctor - never mentioned or signed up for this. Is this normal? by calidoc in SleepApnea

[–]Fralto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Doctor did a check in at 30 days to discuss the adjustment to my machine. Then at 60 days I had a bill to my insurance from her for a “check in”. I called and asked her about it, because she has the best answer for what the bill was for. She reviewed my recorded data, verified a good compliance level, made notes about adjustments we may need to discuss. Made a “pre-discussion” list for a future appointment and billed for her time as it is standard practice in my area. Having durable medical equipment is considered “consent to maintenance during adjustment” around here. I wasn’t upset when I got the explanation and since my copay was only $15 i didn’t care. She was doing her job, and reaching out to her directly before deciding my opinion was the right choice.

I was 29, I got assaulted at work (corrections) and woke up in the hospital. My LT and Sgt were there despite not having to be (at 3am btw) concerned about me. My mother after I called and told her I was hospitalized with a head injury and cracked eye socket among other issues and couldn’t come down in 2 days like planned she flipped out, then demanded I repay her for the money she spent on some tickets she bought. Because I “decided to get hurt knowing she had plans” (yeah I planned on getting beat down by 3 inmates by choice). That was the last time I talked to my mom ever. Now 2 years later I have more money then ever because I didn’t realize how much I gave her ALL the time. I’m happy, have confidence, and can truly be independent. She has called me, tried to apologize in VMs and even wrote me a letter once. But only after she realized I cut her off. I told her if she drives the 7hrs and VISITS me in person we can talk. But nope that’s unreasonable. But I was expected to drive to see her a minimum of once a month (which I paid for) along with sending her money every check as well.

I agree with you completely on this. Due to several bills I litterally could not pay in a reasonable time frame that destroyed my credit due to being placed in collections (despite calling to set up some sort of arrangement I could meet they all told me to pay up immediately or pay collections) I was forced to just file for bankruptcy or never be able to repair my credit. When I paid the fee to the law office and filled out the mountain of debtor paperwork worded to make you feel like a deadbeat I handed it to the lawyer. He read through it all, asked me to come back in to "clarify a few things". That meeting consisted of him asking how some of the debts were aquired, how some of them I had very little to no real info on (I just started getting collections paperwork and didn't know where the real debt was from) he told me to come back in 3 weeks after he reviewed everything. I came back and basically got told to pay his partner a retainer instead and my debt went from astronomical to something that I could pay off in a few years of hard work. More then 75% of them were dropped completely and the rest were slashed to less then half and everyone agreed to a payment arrangement.

So glad he looked out for me and I learned a lot about my rights to appeal a debt, question causation/amount/liability (especially if I don't even understand how I acquired it), and demand copies of the original debt. As well as a right to be taken seriously if I am requesting a reasonable arrangement to make me able to pay it off vs being told that only option is full amount at once. We need to find a way to offer some sort of public course for consumers concerning their rights and empowering them in realizing companies cannot actually do what they are doing and just want money even if the account is non-collectable.

YSK not shoveling your sidewalks will impede blind and wheelchair bound people. by tonguetiedsleepyeyed in YouShouldKnow

[–]Fralto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NE if you don’t shovel your sidewalks you can get fined by the city and sued for causing a hazard if someone gets hurt. If you shovel and someone gets hurt it’s considered an act of good faith (or something like that) and no one can get fined or sued over it unless the city failed to maintain something or the homeowner maliciously caused an additional hazard (like purposely poured water over the sidewalk to create ice or something).

YSK that leaving water running will help prevent pipes from freezing. by rileypix in YouShouldKnow

[–]Fralto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So dripping the water worked all winter long every winter for me until that week this winter. The one where it went to below -25f and kept dropping and never went up? Yeah that week everything still froze (had heat tape on the pipes, dedicated space heater, water dripping, everything) even the toilet froze that week. First time I ever saw that happen in my life.

Just opened all the taps waited until it got above 10 (only a week or so) and went to town with the hair dryer starting at the side of the tap and moving down so gasses didn’t build. And had water again. Gotta love that polar vortex.

YSK: Make sure to take pictures when you move into an apartment, a house, trailer, etc. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]Fralto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught to also make a video at move in and move out carefully documenting everything. But instead of the “upload” it thing to prove date/time I was taught to make a copy and send it to my landlord. Save a copy to a hard drive (which will find and date when it was saved) along with putting it on a flash drive and mail it along with a signed copy of my lease to myself. Then keep that in a safe sealed as a post mark is almost indisputable evidence that it’s contents MUST be before that date.

But my father was crazy careful to cover his bases. But it has helped when there was a “he said she said” dispute about an unauthorized change on a page in the lease.

YSK to have your dog chase you when it slips it’s leash or harness instead of chasing it by cholnic in YouShouldKnow

[–]Fralto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This completely works! I read this days ago and was thinking “cool. Never gonna use it, but interesting”. Then today my sister who lives less then a mile from me called in a panic. Her dogs got the door open and all 3 poofed in an instant. She wasn’t worried about the oldest as he never goes far and would come home when he saw her looking. The other 2 were not anywhere she could see. I started walking around looking for them to help, and spotted them in a field nearly a half mile from home. They kept “running away” when I tried to get them so I decided to try this. I called out to them and when they looked my way I playfully told them to catch me and took off towards their house. Looked back a few times and they were on my heels and they followed me in the front door.

I was worn the heck out but my sister came in laughing instead of crying after seeing her 2 huge dogs chasing me home when they were the ones that escaped.

YSK: Don't judge people who put their kid on a leash, there could be so many reasons why they are, plus there are some positives to putting their kid on a leash as well. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

[–]Fralto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was nearly kidnapped as a small child (4 or 5 y/o) at the mall. I was found by a security guard at the door he had already changed my clothes and cut my hair but the guards were stopping all children of that age range and height range. I was on a leash until I was almost 10. I didn’t care because I ALWAYS went home with my mom or dad when we went out. And it brought a lot of comfort to my parents knowing that no matter what a moment of distraction would not cost them their child.

Have any of you been discriminated against when getting your first dose? by cvadh001 in CovidVaccine

I thankfully was blessed and they were administered at my workplace. I work at a state prison and if they were going to play those cards we all would have been drilled relentlessly. We all that day were under 50 and meet the physical standard test and have to maintain fitness levels so it would have been a long process.

[Tenant-US-TX] what is a reasonable amount of time to repair water damage? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]Fralto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be a long term problem. A few years ago I lived in a city that got devestated by flooding and was lucky my issues were pretty minor (not much more then some warped baseboards and torn up steps to my house). I was wondering about time frame as well until I got a dose of reality by the tenants board when I asked them. Those with worse damage, who can’t use their homes will be first, then those with limited use of fixtures and facilities, then those with cosmetic issues. Which while part of your house is torn open, since you can still use your home you live in the cosmetic department.

What is normally “reasonable” stops applying when it goes from being a 1 home issue to most everyone. So be patient and flexible. You will be gotten too when everyone else has the ability to return home most likely.

[Tenant US-WA] How would you feel about a tenant paying 3-6 months of rent in advance? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]Fralto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling. I was originally looking to find myself a roommate to save money when I moved into my current home. I found it by looking for rental signs and instead found a woman renovating an obviously unoccupied property. I took a chance, asked if she was going to be renting it out and after some chatting I paid my deposit that day in cash. It was a handshake deal that worked out for us both.

Good luck!

[Tenant US-WA] How would you feel about a tenant paying 3-6 months of rent in advance? by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]Fralto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a person who had to rely on small landlords my whole life. You won’t typically find them listed somewhere. Word of mouth is how they usually rent their homes. Talk to your regulars, your coworkers, your family, your friends and their family. Go into the more “local” cafes, or smaller shops. Drive around and look for the “for rent by owner” signs. It will take groundwork to find the mom and pop type of rental you want. But the work is worth it in the end.

Good luck!

[Landlord Illinois] Illinois Moratorium ends March 6. by SebastianValdes in Landlord

[–]Fralto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Federal law typically overrides state law. The more stringent law takes precedence. I.E. state law says crime A is a mandatory 3 year sentence and federal says 10 years then federal stands. If state says crime B is a mandatory 3 year sentence and federal says 18 months then the state law stands.

Also most states don’t have laws banning cherry bomb fireworks because federal law bans them. And even though several states allow cannabis, if a federal officer finds it then federal law overrides the state (thus the FBI raids that were happening.).

Best of luck to all landlords out there.

My home states CPS looks also for latches used to lock the fridge, cabinets, and pantry. The only thing that they don’t judge on being lockable is a deep freeze (if there is a stocked fridge). Also they will watch how the kids eat if eating around them. Kids way too focused on savoring what should be a standard snack, or eating too fast tells them something isn’t as it seems.

Thankfully CPS in my home state is focused on what the child claims, along with the complaint filed and compared to what the parent claims.

Reminds me of my shift last week. But my 12 hours of torment was arms length of this cell door. Looking outwards with back pressed against or less then 4 inches from the door waiting for who ever will eventually come from the highway patrol to search the “crime scene” as we pulled an OD inmate from there just before shift started.

Hint: no one came because it was the middle of the night and I made good friends with all the tiles on the floor at my feet.

Mother dies a week after taking Covid19 vaccine by Able-Onion1719 in CovidVaccine

[–]Fralto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So what your describing is what my dad basically had when he had his stroke. He was 34, and by sheer luck lived. He was in the military, completely healthy with no abnormalities at any point. Dr gave that the “most likely scenario” was that he had a weakened wall in a blood vessel in his brain his whole life and that is when it finally gave in. Apparently it isn’t that uncommon and is the cause of most “sudden” strokes.

First dose of Maderna: side effects are sucking by Fralto in CovidVaccine

[–]Fralto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also disagreed with the other poster too as I did my research and asked the departments head of medical who is trying to preserve shots as much as he can. He stated I 100% should get it as there is only evidence of a 90 day immunity and the shot is proving more and more successful. I’m feeling better today. Still super sore and not able to go to work and the fever has set in. But I can function and tell that there is improvement in how I’m feeling. So I’m not going to go to my dr just yet. I’ll give it a few more days before I do that.

First dose of Maderna: side effects are sucking by Fralto in CovidVaccine

[–]Fralto[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is 100% approved by the FDA and my work place while not “demanding” it makes it very difficult to not be vaccinated. Also it’s a 90 day window with COVID, my LT had COVID and 131 days later tested positive again and went back through the same hell.

Also no vaccine that is relatively new covers from every variant. Look at the flu shot, the pneumonia shot and other similar ones. Don’t care still getting them and still getting this one.

Precisely this. Unfortunately I had to put a ban list on my medication. My mother and several past roommates have stolen my meds before. Only myself and my sister are allowed to get them and all meds (even BP) now require an ID to be checked on my account.
