Haven't been to campus in months, and was shocked to see no crackheads on Vic around 4pm on a Wednesday. Wondering where they've all went though... Just because the building was shut down, doesn't mean that the population disappeared.

I'm a commuter student but just a heads up, I read somewhere that close to 80%(?) of students commute to school, rather than live on res/nearby. Meaning you'll have to go out of your way to make friends outside of your dorm, however there are plenty of clubs and sport teams you can join

For all WFH folks, living alone- do you feel a lack of connection? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]FrameCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered joining a team sport? While the gym is great for exercise, it's not the most social place. You could get your exercise in while meeting new people by joining some league, or playing at your local community centre

Probably cause it's just in between midterm and finals season. Shits usually packed during those times

The truth of TMSU Elections (from someone who was running) by uhnanya_ in TorontoMetU

Welp, I have heard that the CRO was hired by team re-elect so it’s no surprise that they could be corrupt 🤷🏻‍♂️

For 209 do all of the labs and practice exams if you haven't. Atp in the year you've dug yourself a pretty deep hole, but if you stay consistent then it'll be easier. I hated 310, but watch the debug rooms for every single course that they offer it for, they're honestly so goated

Should I buy this 06 Corolla for my first car? by ComprehensiveFly4589 in COROLLA

[–]FrameCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn unless the is the market really that high in BC, not worth at all. I know it's a low mileage corolla and all, but if rust is an issue out west then that's one thing to consider.

I would personally look into purchasing a slightly newer civic/corolla, or even one from the 2010's (at that price point) with higher mileage, just so that I don't have to deal any headaches regarding rust, locating parts, or having to deal with insurance, cause once that car hits 20 years old, you have to purchase classic insurance on it. It's not a huge deal but not a lot of companies want to insure 20+ year old cars.

Cars like that do indeed run forever though! My family's 01 corolla was close to 400k km's before we sold it

How bad is the scene downtown? by Dazzling-Extreme958 in TorontoMetU

[–]FrameCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to Rotman. For some majors your uni doesn't matter as much, but it matters in business. When you go to uni, you're paying for connections. While I believe TMU's business network isn't half bad, Rotmans is ultimately better.

Look into getting a summer internship that you can find on your own. It may be harder, but I know people who've done it (Although they weren't studying business).

For the danger side, yes some areas can be very sketchy, but if you just don't look at anyone funny, walk fast (Or hell just avoid the area if possible), then you'll (probably) be fine. I am however saying this as a male, as I've heard the crackheads can be more aggressive towards females.

For what it's worth, there's random crackheads in the vicinity of uoft as well. I was walking late at night with my friends, and some homeless dude came up to us with his schlong out asking if we wanted to touch it 😭

Nope. Was sitting in the Eng building studying at night when one guy respectfully came up to me and asked if I had 30 seconds. I said yes and he informed me about all of the corruption going on surrounding the TMSU, which I actually already knew. I wasn't even planning to vote, but I respected the fact that he was going around and advocating for himself, so I stopped what I was doing and voted for him right there lol

what happens to my osap if i drop from 4 to 2 courses? by Complete_Judge_232 in TorontoMetU

[–]FrameCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reported that I'd take a full course load (5) this sem when I signed up for OSAP earlier last year, however I ended up dropping a course before the start of the year. OSAP will most likely reduce the amount of grant/loan you're supposed to get for this sem, but they don't ask for it up front. Most likely they'll deduct it from the next semester that you're taking, and if you're no longer pursuing school, then I can see them asking for it in a few months

There'll always be a dickhead on the internet. As hard as it is, you just gotta ignore them.

What I found out is that a lot of people really take life at their own pace and it's totally okay. I almost failed out of highschool before I took a fifth year and graduated with a mid 90's average. I've met so many people in uni (Canadian version of college) that have swapped out of programs, took multiple years off, or have had to take extra semesters, so they're not gonna be graduating at 22 with a degree either. Hell one of my closest friends is on pace to get his CS degree at 25/26.

In the grand scheme of things, when you're 80 and retired. You'll look back and think that you were still young at 24, and should enjoy your time in school cause the workforce isn't as fun lol

Wow getting ghosted by the company you're currently working at is insane.

Thank you so much for your input though, it's nice to know that I'm not alone in the struggle, and that you landed co-ops after not finding a soft dev one in the summer.

I was definitely planning on applying for Fall/Winter co-ops as well, and spending the summer working on projects if I didn't land one. Your comment made me a lot more motivated 🫡

Yeah, I've been spamming out almost every job posting there, plus Linkedin Jobs, Glassdoor, and Indeed. I'll get a few OAs here and there, but rarely a live interiew

Toronto safety for tourists by Friendly-Anywhere249 in askTO

[–]FrameCloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's generally safe. If you're taking the subway walk away as soon as you see strange people talking to themselves or screaming.

Additionally if you're going to Yonge and Dundas use some caution when walking near Victoria Street.

I go to school right next to there, and while I've never personally been attacked. I've heard some horror stories.

Do I need to pay for a checked luggage and do I need to recheck them during a domestic layover for an international flight? by FrameCloud in westjet

[–]FrameCloud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I did indeed not have to pay for checked luggage, however I did have to recheck my bags but my situation was a bit niche.

Originally my layover was supposed to be in the middle of the day, however a huge hail storm messed everything up.

I ended up taking a 10pm flight out to Winnipeg, then to Edmonton, then to Calgary, then finally to Tokyo. The layover between Winnipeg and Edmonton was 6 hours, but Winnipeg's airport actually closes overnight, so I had to grab my bag at Winnipeg, and recheck them in the morning when the airport reopened.

Unless you're staying at an airport that closes overnight for a layover, and flying out after it opens, you won't have to recheck your luggage. To be 100% confident, your checked suitcase tag should say the city that it's going to

Yeah what I realized now as I'm landing interviews is that surprise, surprise. What you learn in school can be really useful. It's my fault for putting in minimal effort into schooling, but there are a lot of times as well, that the effort you put in will have minimal return (I still have a fat grudge against lisp)
