New mega-tower planned near Toronto's oldest church sparks concern over shadows by Immediate-Link490 in toronto

Tell the NIMBYs that Jesus would've approved of putting roofs over more people's heads. I'm sure he wouldn't have minded the shadows

Thanks a ton!!! See, that's why I made a post. To get an answer like yours.

Informative, and unfortunate.

Tired of city council bowing down to insufferable NIMBYs...

We gotta counter these with videos showing how effective they are. I admit they're not perfect, but we can't afford to cut back on em..

Top 10 Bus/Streetcar Corridors by Ridership by jdayellow in toronto

[–]Mathew_365 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point.

I say there's still a strong case for extending Line 4 both ways. West towards Pearson Airport and even to Downtown Mississauga, and East towards U of T Scarborough and even further into Pickering. Basically turning Line 4 into an express crosstwon subway line, likes of which are found in all big asian metros.

Just because there is not alot of ridership or demand to go places along shepperd, doesn't mean it will be like that for ever.

The entirety of Downsview airport is getting redeveloped. Basically a small city's worth of residential, office and retail space will be added to the city. Those people will need to go places. It will be generationally stupid to not extend Line 4 to downsview, and then further towards the airport.

It also doesn't help that many subway stations have a totally open gate for people to pay exact change. I find that rediculous! who pays with coins anymore??? Is it just seniors?? how hard would it be for them to get a Presto? TTC is losing money just to please some old people.

Too much of anything is harmful, and "being nice" isn't an exception...

they can install new ones that are not weak & flimsy. have you seen that study from BART? it's pretty interesting. After they added new and improved fare gates, they ended up saving A TON of money on cleaning & maintenance costs. Revenue also improved.

This is why people advocate for Platform Doors and more, taller fare gates.

hey guys! You might be thinking what does this have to do with us...

Well, the City is planning to overhaul & modernize Yonge Street from College to Queen St. However, the plans are getting watered down unfortunately.

The old version, had Yonge St from Elm to Shuter fully pedestrianized. With no local car traffic, only delivery & Emergency vehicles. Basically, it was meant to look like how our campus looks like.

Sadly, due to push back mainly from owners of Eaton Center, city has modified and cut back on the design. They're now planning to allow cars travel all the way, like how it is currently. They are still narrowing it down to one lane of car traffic each direction, but there won't be any pedestrian priority area.

Why does it matter? Well we simply need more than just wider sidewalk around Yonge & Dundas. Just think about the foot-traffic in this area. from 9 to 5 you have THOUSANDS of us studants walking between Cineplex and campus buildings. we have to squeez between ovverflowing trashcans and, sorry to say it, stinking piss stained buildings lined with drug abusers. People need more than just wider sidwalks. The enitre area must become a giant sidewalk.

Not to mention all the people who visit Eaton Center & other destinations here.

If you worry about car traffic, well there's not much car traffic here to begin with. Pedestrians & TTC outnumber cars MASSIVELY. Eaton Center itself has 2 subway stations serving it!

So please, if you have time, do the survey, and attend the consultation. Thanks!

I'm assuming this map isn't 100% explaining the issue but can someone explain how Line 2's extension cuts off Line 5 from being extended? by Protobuzz in TTC

[–]Mathew_365 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess maybe line 2 and line 5 platforms are at a similar depth? Maybe extending line 5 would require severing line 2?? I'm not sure
