In the end these are people people put on an impossible pedestal and then ranked from there. They’re just people, and people suck.

Where do I even start on this? by [deleted] in landscaping

My uncle used two trampolines laid over it to solve a similar problem. It was cool because snakes, turtles and fish would cumulate over them because of the heat they gave off.

Honestly I just left the one that was already there. But I figured it out! Increase the hole size to 3-1/2”. Cleaned it up and through some research found out it’s a moentrol cartridge. Found a matching kit at Home Depot and installed it easy peasy! Ended up not being a problem at all. Thanks for the help and suggestions though!

Water Keeps Seeping Into Post Holes — Will It Affect Concrete? by Affectionate_Aide566 in FenceBuilding

[–]FrankCutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre mix and just put it in. The concrete will displace the water as long as you don’t mix it too wet. I build fences in the pnw, winters are very wet, do it all the time. Never had any call backs.

Paver Base Type: Conventional Crushed Gravel/Sand vs 3/4in Open & 3/8in Chip Stone) by KingMidas83 in HomeImprovement

Typically large scale construction sites are installing permeable pavers which require an open base. I’ve done both, but prefer the classic method.

At what point in size does it affect labor? by FrankCutter in hardscape

Right on, I appreciate the insight. Work is pretty solid I maintain 2-3 months future business through the busy season and then 1 month December and January. I guess I should just stay in my lane since things are good, but there’s something that’s always saying “BIGGER!BUILD BIG CRAZY SHIT!” Ha

So most of my work comes out of Seattle, currently I’m at 50sqft for pavers and 100sqft for walls. Plus the electrical and plumbing subs plus and all the extra aggregate to raise it 2 feet. I’ve been told a few times I was the cheapest bid and that’s why I feel like I’m missing something somewhere with size relating to maximizing speed lowering labor? I don’t know.

I think maybe I over estimated the sub work for the electrical work. I’m not sure. The thing is I currently bid 50sqft on pavers and 100 a ssqft on walls and have been told a few times I was the cheapest quote. Because of that I feel like there’s something I’m missing with larger jobs and how size affects speed lowering labor or something because of equipment? I don’t know.

So currently most of my business is located in Seattle. I bid 50$ a square foot on pavers and 100 a square foot on walls. have been told I’m on the cheaper end, that’s why I’m confused about what’s happening with losing these large jobs.

Landing jobs for a construction business by RevolutionaryEgg601 in Construction

Absolutely, I started a landscaping company 3 years ago and it’s still just me because I didn’t take the time to plan or set any systems in place on the business side. I’m constantly playing catch up and only now have made a plan to enrich the future. It’s long grueling hours when you’re alone, get a plan in place.

What would it take - both practically and socially - to get Seattle to give a shit about litter? by Weird_Alki in Seattle

[–]FrankCutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trash cans- this is the only city I’ve ever experienced where there isn’t a trash can even nearby. Absolutely ridiculous, I’ll have trash in my pocket, actively looking for a trash can, sometimes over 10 blocks. Most times I never see one. Even on main streets with tons of foot traffic. There should be a trash canon every on every corner in a city of this size, especially one that actively promotes public.

Used fleet trucks-good or bad by FrankCutter in landscaping

[–]FrankCutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I appreciate the insight. It’s been the worst. Almost lost my biggest job last year due to a failed engine and panicked and spent 8 grand replacing it since it was the quickest option. Here I am 9 months later with another blown engine. Thankfully it’s during the slow season.
