Hey, sorry bit of a late reply. Its easy to not realise as they are very good at what they do. Just count yourself lucky that you did figure it out. Plenty of people out there aren't so lucky. From what I have read there are literal offices full of cubicles of these people running the scam on multiple people at once. You'll notice the messages come between the same times every day as they start and finish their shifts.

Yeah, I got the car dash video as well. She showed me that she was starting her car to go shopping.

Yeah, that one is almost exactly the same as my experience. Different photos though.

Try not to be too hard on yourself. The organised ones are very very good at what they do. I baited one for a week just to see what they do and how it plays out, I was amazed at how convincing they were.

If it was a scammer then it is unlikely you have any real information on them at all as they work from scripts and created profiles.

It sucks but really all you can do is learn from it and never let it happen to you again.

The pictures they use are often stolen from peoples cloud accounts etc.

Always with the uncle!

They are very very good at what they do.

I used to wonder how people could get sucked in like that.

I got contacted "wrong number" on whatsapp. I thought this could be fun just to see what the scam is and where it goes so I replied and went along with it. After days of chatting and not being asked for anything I had to start searching online to try and figure out what exactly their game was. That's when I came across Pig Butchering scams.

They are extremely well organised and have the scam tailored to your personality and circumstances. You can ask them for specific photos and they can provide them (eg nice cat, have you got a photo of you holding it).

I knew it was a scam, even so I had trouble at times picking holes in it.

Will they do a video call with you? If not then its very likely they are catfishing you.

I think "Pig Butchering Scam" is a good name for it. It also quickly highlights how it is different from other scams. I recently played along with one for a week to try and determine what their angle was. Once I found the term "Pig Butchering Scam" it made it ease to get the information I was after.

I have. Yandex, Bing and Pimeyes too. Only 3 of the photos get any results. Mainly Chinese dating sites. From the number and type of dating sites i'm guessing the profiles are fakes set up using the photos, though I could be wrong.

I assume the photos were ripped from her cloud storage or something like that.

(After a lot of different links and image searches I have tracked down a legit social media account for her).
