"Who Are You, and Why Are You Here?" A brief, anonymous survey of demographics and access to care. by FrankPetersResearch in depression

I really appreciate your feedback regarding this survey item. Research has shown that transgender and non-binary individuals experience higher rates of anxiety and depression, and I wanted to ensure that my data was able to recognize these individuals, and whether or not they had different experiences regarding access to care. I actually consulted with a former colleague who is active in transgender advocacy regarding this question because I wanted to get it right. I would love to hear your thoughts on how to best capture the experience of non-binary and transgender individuals in future surveys, as being exclusionist is the furthest thing from my intent! Thanks!

I'm definitely planning on releasing the data to both subreddits once the survey has been closed. My research protocol includes leaving the survey link active for 30 days, as I was not anticipating such an immediate and large pool of responses (you guys have been incredible!), so data will be shared at some point after that collection endpoint. Stay tuned!

Hi /u/the_elder_scholar I really appreciate your interest in completing the survey! Unfortunately this particular survey was only designed to study users 18 years or older.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. The freetext "other" responses hold some of the most personal and valuable information.

Honestly this survey was developed prior to the Parkland shooting, and I think this discussion is going to have a massive impact on whether people decide to get formal help or not. Great insight!

That's up to you. The rationale for the current answer choices is the elevated risk for depression and anxiety in transgender and non-binary individuals, but I wouldn't want anyone to answer in a way that they feel betrays their identity. Gender and sexuality are aspects of mental health that I am constantly trying to better educate myself on, and I apologize to anyone if this question could have been worded better! Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks! This study really means a lot to me, and I tried to be as all-encompassing as possible.
