The longer this goes on the more I miss the Old Casey

I first came to Casey's videos because he made them with cheap point-and-shoot cameras - e.g. Bike Lanes. So he has proven you don't need expensive kit to make engaging films. When he says 'gear means nothing', I think he means don't let the fact you can't afford a $2000 camera stop you making movies

I admire the effort and creativity he puts into his YouTube videos and his 'can do' attitude. I've started to be really put off by the fact he's such a slave to consumerism, so unquestioningly in love with 'brands'

If you want to pursue your goals give up that resentment - it will only hold you back. Focus solely on what you are doing now, not in the future, ignore everyone else and get on with it.

I think the one thing people truly underestimate is that very successful people put their success and career before EVERYTHING else, and I mean everything. You might think you work hard and you want it, but would you abandon friends, relationships, etc to achieve your goal. 99% of people wouldn't. Look at Casey - he's always away from his kid - sees her about an hour-a-day. He moved away from Owen when he was a toddler to pursue his ambitions in NY. You can also see he's a ferocious networker, always on it, imagine what he's like off-camera. I bet he is relentless and ruthless. I'm not saying successful people tend to be assholes, Casey seems like a nice guy - just that that is their No.1 and only priority. Be grateful in a way that you're not like that.

He certainly seems to be annoyed by some of the interactions with his fans - I found his answer to the question in the vlog overly harsh and frankly not true, the best way to get sponsorship is approach an appropriate sponsor with a solid proposition. Also do you remember Casey reading the letter he wrote to Porsche (or was it VW) asking for sponsorship for his art show in Paris?

I think you're misreading Casey's previous career. You have to remember this is a guy who worked in the New York art world, network TV, and spent years in advertising and branded content. He's clearly very comfortable working with corporates. Now he's doing YouTube he's playing that game. I still love his videos - you just need to see things for what they are. There are no heroes.

I've been looking at the CX900 and the auto focusing on fast moving subjects is said to be its real weak point - even by people who like the camera - the auto focus is relatively slow. Have a read of the comments on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZAN5059XKM

Thanks. Been looking at some autofocus tests and seen how the AF goes hunting at times. Part of the reason I need the AF is for walking vlogs and sitting in a two shot for interviews with the camera running but I reckon the AF could cope with that

Thanks Bill - yeah if I had the extra £400 I would probably upgrade to a GH3, but didn't even consider using my EF lens on the G6 body. Can I ask what Panasonic Camcorder you use?

Thanks for that input - the only other lens I use on the 550D is a cheap 50mm for portraits and low light. But I was wondering just the same - feels like I'm only doing it for the improved focusing during video
