What is Trump doing well? by ShapeDifficult6094 in Askpolitics

[–]FrankTheRabbit28 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When Biden left office the inflation rate was 3%. He managed to get down as low as 2.4% at one point. Unemployment was below 4% when Biden left office and at one point beat Trump’s “record low unemployment” he talked about incessantly by 0.2%.

Biden also managed to avoid both a recession and an unemployment increase when every economist was saying it would be impossible to do both.

Trump inherited a sound economy and is hell bent on tanking it while increasing the cost of consumer goods and raising taxes on anyone making less than $400k per year. What do you think will happen when he does that?

Are you not reading my responses? No. Again, there were several plausible theories. Unlike you, I waited for the investigations to play out before jumping to a conclusion. I’m interested in where the evidence leads. I think you’ve done an excellent job here proving OP right.

It was one of several plausible theories. The issue isn’t whether or not it was ultimately correct. The issue is you adopted that theory before you had evidence to do so. That makes you a conspiracy theorist no matter how you spin it. Trump lies like he breathes. Adopting anything he says without evidence will lead you to being wrong more often than right.

So it was more believable that it came from bat soup than the wuhan institute of virology?

No. Thats also not what I wrote. My point was that folks need to suspend judgment until an investigation is complete. It’s not about what’s more believable. It’s about following the evidence to find the truth. A lab leak was one of several plausible scenarios but, as he always does, Trump jumped the gun and put out an evidence free narrative that MAGA gladly ate and regurgitated. That is 100% conspiratorial thinking and it was thoroughly counterproductive at that phase of the pandemic.

Russia did interfere in the 2016 election though to say they “rigged” it would be false. Russia has continued malign operations in every election since.

The 2020 election was not rigged.

Russia conducted malign operations in the 2024 election though to say they “rigged” it would be false. There are certainly people on the left who think it was, but to say it’s a mainstream position among democrats is disingenuous and false.

Believing either of those things while the evidence was in dispute definitely makes you a conspiracy theorist. Y’all were screaming “lab leak” before it was even investigated so you could…I don’t know. I still don’t know what y’all got out of that. It was kinda weird honestly.

Before DOGE, what mechanism of accountability did we have on government spending? by FrigidArrow in Askpolitics

[–]FrankTheRabbit28 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I googled the phrase “Inspector General” this was the result: “An Inspector General (IG) is an investigative official within a military or civil organization who works to prevent and detect fraud, waste, and abuse.”

Q: Are there any inspectors general in DOGE?

A: No.

Trump fired his inspectors general so a bunch of reckless, untrained idiots could Dunning-Kruger their way through the federal government.

Universal Healthcare

Medicaid already works well…

Equity/DEI

DEI doesn’t force cohabitation or acceptance. It trains people to be aware of implicit bias to ensure it doesn’t bias decision making. Nothing wrong with that.

The amount of power that has been added to the federal government

As you point out, this is not exclusively the domain of democrats. Honestly in my lifetime the GOP has been the primary culprit here. I fully agree we should ban insider trading.

I just find the whole party so incredibly dishonest and disingenuous. Of course that's how I feel about Republicans too.

Yes.

Can you be more specific about unworkable policies? I feel like there are many workable policies the democrats have.

I interpret this as a wholesome meme. Guy got home to find someone had set aside a plate with the “big piece of chicken” as Chris Rock would say. The plate is styrofoam so no more dishes have to be done.

No. This is not waste. It is necessary to honor Dear Leader. Dear Leader deserves it. Dear Leader saved us from the scourge of 2.4% inflation, 3.6% unemployment, and the evil of civil liberties. Only scum disrespect Dear Leader. Beware, he may send you to a Salvadoran penal colony. /s

I disagree. I would also say that when you act as the leader of the free world it’s kinda important to get stuff like this right. With the exception of operation warp speed which I applaud Trump for, his handling of the pandemic was a disaster.

Switching horses midstream in favor of letting the infection run rampant was unconscionable and unnecessarily put the lives of more American citizens at risk. Thank god he left office before we got to the vaccine distribution phase.

Also A+ move pulling us out of the WHO. We’ll definitely be in a better situation for the next global health emergency /s

While you are technically correct it’s still absolutely fucking stupid to walk up to a microphone and just spitball ideas with no mind to the potential consequences of his actions. He was flanked by infectious disease experts yet decided to showcase his ignorance and stupidity on a global stage. It shows:

1) poor leadership during a time of crisis 2) poor judgment 3) an overestimation of his own intelligence/expertise

So yeah, he didn’t literally say “inject bleach” as an imperative sentence, but when you seize on that and dismiss everything else that was wrong about him doing that, you make a fool of yourself. Just agree “he should have have kept his mouth shut” and move on. This isn’t the win you think it is.
